By "naturalistic" I didn't mean that in the sense that there were more animal-based Pokemon in Gen 1. I just meant it in the sense that the animal-based Pokemon that were there tended to be drawn with more well-defined anatomy than later gens on average. Later gen Pokemon more often have parts of their body that don't clearly connect in a totally realistic way, or have exaggerated anatomy like super big kawaii heads with tiny undetailed feet.
I only see this in the starters' base forms (and gen 2, which is kinda infamous for having a lot of round Pokemon), the starters have been getting increasingly Sanrio'd, Galar's starters look like colorswaps of the same balloon-headed body.

Gen 1 mons' anatomy doesn't seem more well defined to me, but they do tend to have more details like bumps, spikes and claws, while later gen mons tend to have smoother bodies but also use more colors and complex patterns (unless that's what you mean by having more detailed anatomy?). Gen 1 also had a lot of blob creatures with simplified anatomy like Clefairy, the Jigglypuff line, the Oddish line, Psyduck, Poliwag, Chansey, and the blobbiest of them all, Ditto. Even Pikachu used to be a blob with ears and a tail before losing a few pounds.

About having body parts that don't connect naturally, it's funny you should mention that because it's my biggest gripe with Charizard's design, it just doesn't flow together at all. Its body is a ball with limbs sticking out of it, its neck is a cylinder with no definition, its wings look crumpled, and it has large blocky shoulders with tiny stick arms.

You don't get to talk about bug types for the first three gens and completely ignore Heracross.
I wrote it at first, but I removed it because it falls under "cartoony versions of real bugs." It looks cool and is decently strong, but it's still a rhinoceros beetle with googly eyes.

So I've been completely out of the loop on Pokemon ZA but I just saw this and just have to ask; why did they design a pokemon with a gem buttplug?

Guys! bug types are not "strong" but who cares? You're missing the point

It's about seeing this little guy (the Caterpie, your caterpie) getting obliterated by a level 70 Charizard.

Look at him, you're telling me you're not enjoying it?

Of course you want it in your team. That's the magic of pokemon, it's not just about strength it's about suffering. Not mine, mind you, I'm the trainer, I just watch them get torn apart by giant birds. As long as I have the right badges they have to do what I say.

In regards of "based on inanimate objects", I've grown to like Magnemite over the years. I dunno, something about it is just charming.

It's kinda similar to the Unown in being a floating eyeball, though I took to the Unown better due to lore and the third movie and I would allow Unown into the house long before any Magnemite. But damn it all, I just can't hate the little guy.
On the topic of Magnemite, we all know that he got a final evolution in gen 4: Magnezone. Gen 4 was the first generation of Pokémon games that I played so I have fond memories of it, and I always thought that Magnezone was cool even though I never got my hands on him during my playthrough.

I bring this up because for some reason, it wasn’t until recently that I looked at his design and realized that the red dot in the middle is supposed to be an eye. I always figured that it was supposed to just be a decoration or something and just treated the two eyes on the side as his only eyes. I don’t really know why I thought that considering his pre evolution Magneton has three eyes.

Animal buttholes are considered cute in Japan.

I like the doggo form of Zygarde. The snake is ok too. Not too sold on the complete form though.

Once you see it....

Come on, it's gotta be there on purpose like the dick spires in The Little Mermaid. There's no way they designed dick knees without noticing it.

I climbed to the rim of the crater and caught a Magnezone in a drawn out war of attrition. Then put up with it not obeying me until I was worthy. Felt good man. It is now my loyal UFO slave.

Now see, I always ignored the other eyes and thought that the red one was the "real" eye. But I guess he can see out of all of them.

Do you regularly lurk the Pokemon thread or is someone talking about image formatting like a bat signal for you?
This is a sign to stop using thumbnailed images.

Making trade-only evolutions was a mistake. Almost all of the gen 4 third stage evolutions are "trade only + obscure item" and this problem was also carried over into BDSP. Only got Magnezone, Porygon Z, Magmortar, and Electivire finally through the GTN in sun/moon some years later as you can get all the items they needed outside of an ungodly amount of grinding in the battle tower, and trade them back. This was before the GTN got shit up with retards all wanting Arceus for everything. Yanmega was alright because "level up + already knows specific move" is a lot more fair. Most ROM hacks also remove this bullshit and replace the evolution requirement with something more reasonable.

I think, aside from the physical/special split, that that was one of the better things to come out of Gen4... older gen evolutions. And then gen5 brought the Eviolite and made those older gen pokemon even more viable (e.g. Rhydon).

I'm kinda pissed they don't do this anymore, and when they do it's only for regional variants and not for the O.G. mons (e.g. Farfech'd & Linoon). Megas are nice, but aren't permanent and can only be used once.

I 100% completely forgot about these.

S/V is so out of my head-cannon that I thought Sw/Sh was still the latest game when typing that. That's how bad it's gotten.
God I fucking wish I could do that.

Don't call it bad. Call it healing. Your brain is expunging the current state of the franchise from your mind to help you enjoy what it once was without dampening the mood with current slop. Thank it politely and give it a treat.

Im glad I can only remember pokemon up to Sinnoh. Still don't know what the regions for gen 5 or 6 are called.

Alola was decent with Solgaleo and Lunala as a brief return to form. Most nu-pokemon are essentially ultra beasts

I always imagined that this isn't a sentient being but rather some sort of drone whose programming got corrupted. Maybe something to do with Kanto or Kalos power plants, fuck if I know Gamefreak never gives us any proper lore. It's been 25 years and we still don't know what the deal is with Unown and all their temples.

This became especially apparent when sword and shield released, which also unintentionally caused the player-base to be more critical of the 3ds era, as all the major videos that criticize XY for example were made after SwSh released. Before SwSh most critizisms towards gen 6 and gen 7 weren't as prevalent and i'd aruge gens 6 and 7 had their peak in reception at their respective launches. Back when XY and ORAS came out, I remember people saying that gen 6 was better then gen 5 or any of the previous gens aside from maybe gen 4. Which might sound insane in retrospects, but the reception was super positive, probably because people assumed there would be a pokemon Z.
XY and ORAS were always heavily criticized. Maybe not by casuals or youtubers, but honestly who gives a shit about their opinion?
I will let you know, saying that Gen 6 is better than Gen 5 is mere bait, very good bait at that and the likes of Yawnfag on /vp/ has made their entire identity revolve around getting people to argue with one another by saying the dumbest shit possible(by his own admission, he hates Pokemon, doesn't play the games and only aims to disrupt discussions).
You probably wonder how you train and level up your Pokemons then given that trainer encounters and gyms are the same as in the original games? Well, when you successfully catch a wild Pokemon, the Pokemons sitting in your team will automatically gain XPs, which makes no sense. You still need to do it though because they retained the traditional fight encounters with other trainers (which also give you XPs). I can see why they went in this direction given how successful Pokemon Go was on mobile but trying to emulate that on a console was a bad idea. The game was slightly less fun than the original red and blue versions that it's based on and nostalgia aside, red and blue are now pretty limited and repetitive in term of game design and mechanics. The whole thing made me lose faith in Game Freaks because of the missed opportunity it represents.
The whole reason why Go is popular is because it's free and available on a mobile device, something everyone right down the to the blackest nigger and brownest pajeet in the most foul corner of the world have. Pokemon Let's Go was made in mind for those people who have never played any Pokemon game other than GO(aside from maybe the original titles on Gameboy), but in order to play the game, you need:
*Nintendo Switch console
*The game
*Another game, if you want all Pokemon
*HOME membership in order to transfer Pokemon to and from the game
*50$ Pokeball accessory that works with no other game, that includes other Pokemon games on the Switch, if you want Mew

Now, what do you think your average GO player will do? Will they continue playing their shitty mobile game they're already invested in that is still getting free content to this day, or blow all this money just to play one game that kind of plays like GO? If they wanted to go down this route, they can just play the original gameboy titles on emulation, also on their phones, free of charge. Hell, it would almost be a better deal to take all that money you would spend on getting a Switch and everything else I listed and whaling it on GO for some nice boosters or something, make your experience in GO more enjoyable.

As you can see, this was an absolute waste of everyone's time and I still remember how relentlessly this game was mocked on /vp/ to this day. It got so bad that this is actually the debut of Yawnfag. He got his start by being an obnoxious faggot and defending both Let's Go and Gamefreak to the bitter end and then doing the same with every new release afterwords(starting gen wars and spamming threads in between releases).
BTW you can swear on this website, dude

I had no idea dude, I bought a second hand Switch Lite and I saw the game in the online catalogue. Just thought they had finally made a 3d remake of my beloved red cartridge (gen 1 player here). Big disappointment. I feel that they put a lot of effort in the Viridian forest at the beginning which looked great and made the game lag (performance lol), everything after that was crap. I don't know Yawnfag but if he liked this game then he lived up to his name.

The in-universe speculation is that the Magnemite line are alien robots. The Pokedex entries for Magnezone all talk about it being mistaken for a UFO when people see it fly by, and that its antenna receives unknown signals from outer space. There was a feature on the official Japanese website back in Gen 7 where an Occult Maniac (Hex Maniac) and a skeptic professor argued over in-universe /x/ shit, and the Occult Maniac speculated that Magnezone were created by aliens and left behind on Earth.

Cool, I really don't care. I'm still gonna treat it like a drone, since it makes more sense.
If they wanted aliens to actually have place in the universe, they should have put them in the game. No, implying that Clefairy is an alien doesn't count. Since nothing came of it from the leaks, I am guessing that the story with aliens in XY was just a hoax, but I still think it would be much better than what we got, and in that case I could see Magnemite line coming over from the same place as Fairy types.

they should have put them in the game.
I mean, they did with Alola. S/M's plot got completely hijacked by it in USUM.

Honestly, I wish they never touched extraterrestrials. It's such a stupid diversion. My upper limit for it is stuff like Deoxys being an earth-based mutation of some space bacteria that resulted in a new Pokemon.
