Probably what @Violence Jack said. Gary feels like the kind of asshole who would buy fake badges just to be a dick and showoff. But if I remember right, there was an episode where a Nurse Joy goes around visiting unofficial gyms to see if they can become official, so I'm guessing there's more than just 8 gyms per region in the anime canon.

That was the episode that had the warring gyms with a Scyther and Electabuzz, It was also the episode that started Pikachu's love affair with ketchup

Heck if I know. I think they just did it to make it look cuter. Although if you want to think of it another way, the anime usually had some pikachus with indentations in their tails who had particularly higher pitched voices. Maybe that's where GF got the idea?

Apparently Pikachu has a girlfriend now... and a rival? How long has this been a thing in the anime? I don't keep track of this shit anymore so what the fuck is going on? Is anyone mad because it ruins their headcanon of pikachu being a gay demiboy? Also has Ash still not won a league match yet?

That Pikachu romance thing was only for one episode. I think it was to promote LGPE, because of the hairstyles.
 
If someone with ESP woke up transformed into a Kadabra in a Kafka bullshit pokedex entry, can someone who's a ninja fanboy wake up transformed into a Greninja? Can a gothic Lolita wake up transformed into Gothitelle? Can Kenshiro transform into a Machamp?

Offtopic: "Gamefreak is really bad at world building" will be my title from now on.

I think that’s the same logic that created Sonichu.
 
I assume each region does in fact have multiple unofficial gyms, sort of like the little league versions of the real thing or they're just above average trainers (think like a real world gym coach or personal trainer).

Most of the trainers that challenge to take over a gym from a current official gym leader or are selected to replace a retiring one come from these unofficial gyms.

That reminds me of something that bothers me even more than the usual egg shit. Kangaskhans being born not just as full adults but with even babies already in their pouches. Are these things just born pregnant/bearing live young that never grows up or does a wild kangaskhan just randomly burst in out of nowhere no matter where you are as your Kangaskhan egg is hatching just to take it and put it in its pouch? Also seeing the "mature" baby in the mega evo trailer for Kanga just makes me feel more disappointed that we couldn't have that as a legit second stage evolution for Kangaskhan instead.

Interestingly enough, the screen actually whites out in the original GameBoy versions. Later games blacked out, though starting with FR/LG, they added a textbox stating you run to the nearest Pokémon Center, possibly holding your Pokémon in the meantime. Wonder if the shock of losing makes the player character switch to autopilot.

The English names guess were accidentally switched since the badges' colors match the city they represent. But it always did confused me why the Marsh Badge were just a golden circles, the Soul Badge at least looks like a heart, and in Japanese, "kokoro" is one of the meanings for "spirit" and "heart", least in a metaphorical sense. But I think that was just a huge coincidence since it's just called "Pink Badge" in Japanese, though still weird Koga gives out a heart-shaped badge. Honestly am glad the English localization gave the first eight badges names, probably gave Game Freak a kick in the butt to get creative with badge names.
 
Why isn't Lugia a water-type Pokemon?
