Pokemon Go is a bit hit-or-miss for me at the moment, honestly. I live in a suburban area that's very developed and yet there are no gyms or Pokespots within walking distance (well, okay, that's not fair; I could walk to them but I'm sure as hell not going to in this ungodly weather). I've only gotten a few Pokemon, too.

I live in the perfect hellspot combination of "suburb-bordering-on-undeveloped-wilderness" because we're on the fringe of a neighborhood like most horse people are. The nearest Pokespot is a church, and not a nerd-friendly one. On top of, it's summertime in Florida. It's 90+ degrees even at night; you can't go out without dying. I tried snagging some mons when we went out to travel but our nearby town had like NO Pokemon for whatever reason.

My Australian friend lives in a populous college city and has fucking 9 eggs already and a gym team. I have my starter and an Oddish I got by sheer dumb luck.

I'm either gonna have to wait until fall/winter, at this rate, or just give up on it completely. Which is a shame because I was actually hoping to get outside more once I had a good reason to.

Sad to hear. This definitely is a Suburban/Urban affair.

This is a common problem recently with Nintendo and Pokemon games in particular - since Japan is so urbanized and densely populated you can't help but walk ten feet without stumbling over a trade offer (street pass anyone?) or a Pokespot.

Since America is full of rural space and suburban sprawl/in-fill between city centers (and that's a REAL city, not some podunk boonie town), it's a lot harder. I don't want to complain but when obvious regional differences are impacting the enjoyability of a game in widespread ways, that's kind of a problem.

Yeah a few people were actually talking about this along with Pokemon Go's bugs and glitches, it's probably a good thing they only put this game in America (for now) because it teaches the creators the problems they need to fix or what they need to add to keep people happy with the game. Hopefully they do fix this because I'm another person with this problem.

Yep, my brother is over in Aus at the moment, and he has 3x the pokemon I have, a pile of eggs, and multiple gyms and such to enjoy pretty much on his doorstep. I have to go for a drive or a long walk to even find anything other than the occasional well-spread-out pidgey/zubat/other common-as-balls pokemon. My friends living in city centres are just exploding with pokemon already as well. It's definitely biased towards population-density. Which is odd, considering in the games, you're more likely to find pokemon away from population centres

Shows what the internet has done to make this obvious. Before that, you were either a city slicker, or still relying on the Sears, Roebuck catalog.

I live in a pretty suburban area, so I'm a bit behind the crowd, but I actually don't mind that much. I've already bonded with several complete strangers over catching these virtual critters. :heart-full:

TFW I go for a 2 hour walk, catch almost nothing of note, find all three gyms nearby are the same team as me so I can't even take em over, and then just as I get home I catch this bugger.

couldn't log on for a couple of days and by the time I get back on some shitheads have taken over the local gyms

reeeEEEEEEEE

Ok, Pokemon GO isn't officially released here in the UK yet but I did download the APK file the other day.
The closest gym to me is a 30 min walk to a pub. Drunken Pokemon gym leaders ahoy, wouldn't expect anything else from Scotland.

hrm...
I was kinda just looking for G1 on a phone. This gym stuff sounds like a real drag.

I've had shit for a gps connection at home so I haven't gotten to screw around with this too much yet.

Does this have basic "walk up to person and packmom fight" functions?

I'm also disappointed about the shortage of Pokemon in rural areas. I've come across no more than about 15 (most of the time the same ones keep cropping up) and only one or two gyms. Haven't even reached level 5 yet.

There's also the factor that, if you're going for a walk around the neighborhood, there'll often be some Pokemon off the path, meaning you'd have to go wandering into someone's yard to find them. Fuck that, people have already gotten themselves into trouble because of stuff like this.

And logically-speaking, wouldn't it make sense for Pokemon to appear in rural places? What with the "walking in tall grass" mechanic from the games, you'd think there would be a bunch out in the countryside. But maybe that's just me thinking too meta.

This is definitely a problem, and it's a shame Japan didn't think it through. But for others in this situation, I agree with what Cosmos said; try to use Go when you travel to more populated places. Or use incense whenever possible and just hope you get lucky.

I wonder if there's a cheap chinese crap phone that can do all the stuff.

I really want to see the tourist drags through the AR thing but I'm not sure I'll dig this enough to warrant sinking money into a real phone.

I live out in the middle of nowhere. @R.A.E.L. fifteen is actually a lot compared to what I'm dealing with at home. I've had to use incense and it's only brought out maybe 3? But, I have to admit that it's realistic as fuck.

See? Ain't jack-shit around for miles. Just like in real life.
But I work in a more populated area, so I just leave a little early and go snooping around before work.

this is the most autistic shit ever and if you like it you should kys

When I got a notification that you had replied to this thread, I thought "I bet Dynastia said he hopes that everyone who plays Pokemon Go runs into the street and gets hit by a car." Glad to see I wasn't far off.

I hope you all get raped by blacks.

It's great. You look like a creepy asshole taking pictures of everybody, but then you tell people you're playing pokemon and you look like an autistic creepy asshole instead.
