I like pvz 1 ,pvz garden warfare series and pvz 2 (until EA introduced in pvz 2, leveling up system).

Plants vs. Zombies made a great third person shooter. It reminded me of a Battlefield for children: medics, air support, suppressive fire, expansive maps. Maybe children is a bit much, more like lightheaded fun.

The first Garden Warfare was a great foundation. I remember each game mode adding a twist to the tried and true formula. Capture the Flag being a taco, Domination being stores in the map, Payload being a golf course. It was simple fun, unlockables were easy to maintain. Good learning curve too, not too many characters to mess with the meta but enough to be varied.

Who knew a simple phone game can evolve into a third person shooter?

Do you have any thoughts on pvz :Battle for neighborville( aka pvz garden warfare 3)? This game was released last month.

Man, Plants vs Zombies. That's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Loved the first game, haven't played the rest though.

There's already a thread about the game here, but it's dead, so I'm making a new one

Edit: fucking jannies merged my thread :(

I'm a big fan of the PVZ series. Been playing for literal years and have seen its progression with EA's management was a literal pain to say the least. With the upcoming remaster, Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted, being absolute garbage, I couldn't help but make this thread to voice out my grievances with the game
TL;DR:
  • The game is very sloppily made. Some of the designs of the plants don't look good. And it very clearly uses AI upscaling
    :story:

  • Some parts of the game, which you were supposed to unlock as you progress through the game, are, for some reason, available right out of the gate
  • The new level select screen shows the final boss of the game in the icon, for some reason
  • There's a bug where zombies can instantly teleport to your house
  • The almanac (which has the info about every plant and zombie) includes a bonus menu that shows an early concept art for the game during its development. The problem is that some concept art shown in the menu is FAKE
    :lossmanjack:
  • You used to be able to predict the final boss's moves by looking at his eye color (if it's orange, he sent a fireball, if it's blue, he sent an iceball), but now it's just random
  • The iconic end was replaced with a small TV screen that shows the original ending without any changes. They didn't even bother remaking it at all
  • The music (which is one of the best things about the original game) is completely fucked here. Every single stage has the wrong music. Not only that, but it is no longer "dynamic". The PVZ was created with the intention that, as the stage progresses, more zombies come in and the game gets harder, and the music reflects that; it gets more and more intense as the stage goes on. It doesn't happen in remaster; it literally just plays the entire song for 1 wave instead of progressing more and more. The original composer spoke out about this on Twitter

I thought you were just going to complain about a few quirks, but no, that's truly dreadful. This seems like one of the worst remasters ever, and that's saying a lot.

That takes me back. I actually have it for the ps3 on a physical disc that includes some of the other games like Peggle on it. The original was a blast as Iam big on tower defense games, never touched the later stuff.

I can't even find information on who worked on this. The credits sequence is literally the original, and nothing I can find talks about who made this. Maybe the info is in game, but I'm not buying it to find out.

That's very unfortunate. I didn't really need an HD remaster, since the original is pretty timeless and runs fine on steam from my memory, but the VS. mode I was really hoping to play with a friend. We played the VS. way back when with the DS, and I remember it being pretty fun and unique for an already unique game. Speaking of, I'm kinda surprised there isn't much PvZ-like games, I only know a couple.

It does look like the breaking point for many wasn't all the other low effort downgrades, but hearing AI was involved. You would think it'd be pretty easy to upscale the PvZ graphics though, its all cartoony drawings.

You know how dogshit the remake it when you literally replayed the original game from 2009.

I used to play the original a fuck lot, especially how perfectly aged PvZ is, especially with the wave progression, minigames, zen garden and the iconic Zomboss fight. I really love the designs of the Hypno-Shroom and Doom-Shroom. Not to mention, spamming Cob Cannons in endless for Zombie holocaust. Even I fucking love the Wall-nut bowling minigame because of how immensely fun it was.

It’s already so fucking perfect, but all I see the only one purpose EA does to PvZ was to bait nostalgiafags who knew no better; and fucking failed, because EA are a bunch of retarded and incompetent money-eating niggers that tries to roll as much shekels from milking the same title, reskinning FIFA and god knows what the fuck is this dogshit conglomerate goes on.

As if EA isn’t any better with their constant milking on PvZ, they literally had PvZ3 on the run as well. Shit goes fucking downhill when George Fan left the team. It’s as predatory as PvZ2 goes in typical EA zogness.

edit: goddamnit, it’s the fucking jeets.

How do you fuck this badly
I've been trying to look into who was responsible for this remaster and found a possible answer. A person who used to work for PopCap in the very early days said that the team responsible for this shitty remaster were Indians :stress:. EA literally outsourced the remaster to a team in India with a low budget

That's what I figured, but I had absolutely no luck trying to corroborate it, good work tracking even this much down. Is it really possible that you put out a rerelease and there are no credits for it? Good point the dev makes about how the EA sale doesn't bode well. Destroying copyright would ironically go so far towards stopping the dismantling of these properties by vulture capitalists.

Also, who’s this random troon that just happen to know a bunch of PopCap devs?
It might be likelier than you think. The writer on PvZ, Stephen Notley, also made the comic Bob the Flower, which can definitely be funny, but it's not exactly omegabased. Here's a recent one:

Wow. That sounds fucking dreadful. EA continues to ruin this great franchise.

If you don't already have PvZ 1 2009 in your Steam account, I wouldn't be surprised if EA delists it at some point in the future, so maybe consider buying that. (Of course Valve doesn't think buying = owning either so who gives a shit just pirate it.)

And here naive ass me just thought "Oh hey they're porting the console HD versions to PC, took them along enough"
I mean Jesus Christ EA, some autistic chink with a hex editor could make a better """remaster""" than this.
