I don't know if it necessarily is over the line to mock somebody's weight if they're clearly very unhealthy and also not doing a damn thing to try and help themselves.

Add into the mix the fact that she is in complete denial of her appearance and even criticises those who look similar and I have a real hard time feeling sympathy for her just because her waistline is the recipient of a few jibes.

I want to clarify that I don't condone picking on people or judging them because of their appearance, whether that ties in with weight or not. But some people really do bring it on themselves. Yup, a lot of people pick on Chris' weight, and I myself refer to him as "fatty" on a pretty frequent basis, albeit I'd really have no desire to do this if he weren't so obnoxiously hypocritical, and so blatantly in denial, about it, much the same way people are saying Pixy is. But the disparity is there, I think, and pretty plain to be seen. Even though they're Lolcows of the same magnitude, Chris is subject to all sorts of discussion, criticism and speculation, of which insults over his weight make up a pretty damned small fraction of. But it seems like on every page of Pixy's thread, there's at least a few posts dedicated to riffing on how fat and ugly she is, rather than all the things she actually DOES that are worth insulting. Maybe that has something to do with her only having a thread dedicated to her, rather than a whole forum, but I really don't think it's that so much as it is that people are more inclined to body-shame a woman than they are a man. I realize that probably come across as really insulting and I'm likely opening a huge fucking can of worms, so try not to read too far into it. It isn't even really my point. Like I said in my earlier post, I don't expect barbs about Pixy's weight to be roped off; sometimes she makes it too easy. I just think that there's too much focus on it, and some of the barbs I do see from ordinarily decent posters are just too shitty for me to laugh, because they seem less like they were thrown out because Pixy's a crazy bitch and more like they were thrown out just because she's big. Some of the stuff I've seen people say in this thread sounds exactly like the kind of shit I've heard drunken douchebag frat boys say in nightclub bathrooms. Have you ever noticed that any lolcow has exaggerated qualities? People notice things about them and run with it. What little people know of a lolcow, they grab onto the most obvious negative details and either use it to generalize further comments about them. It's a way to dehumanize the subject. The mockery that follows once these exaggerated qualities have become 'fact' then feel far less personal. Like instead of a fellow human being, you're instead making fun of a character in a movie or something. The people themselves become a caricature of the crowd's own design, blending fact and fiction together until the two are interchangeable.
That's what these people are, to a lot. Characters in a show putting on acts for our own visceral amusement. When you get right down to it, we're all participants in a modern day minstrel production or a freak show. At the end of the day we might as well be tossing trash at the lot of them.
