btw when I first saw this thread I wasn't paying enough attention or something (maybe I was browsing on my phone). and I thought it was "privacy general" and assumed it was like about general online opsec, good online practices, avoiding giving companies all your info while browsing online, you know the whole online privacy thing.

then by the time I realized I fucked up after people were saying the topic I posted about was off topic which confused me. I didn't even want to say what happened. I just saw the thread and remembered that.

Wait, how is this off-topic?
Stealing stuff also keeps companies from getting your money info; opsex keeps TV companies from making your ISP send you a letter bitching you out and threatening to take your service away if you torrent their crap and not pay for their streaming service (premium doubleplusgood gold-silver plan).

because it had nothing to do at all with piracy. I think it was something going over the laws that were starting to come around involving age verification, and similar privacy nightmare legislation the glowies have a hard on for, and so do some of the bigger tech companies for legal, and financial reasons.

If you’re still curious, and to anyone who thought the same thing:

Stealing stuff
Nothing is stolen via piracy, as none have been deprived of their property.

What finally knocked it out of my mindeset was this response during an e-mail exchange between registrar and NYT,
Further, stealing content seem quite harsh of this website though, didn't know that they did that! Is there anyway you can get the stolen items back though? You should either go to the police and request them to help you get the stolen items back. Or maybe talk to your insurance company, they might help to compensate you for the loss. But a helpful idea; if they've stolen something and then put copies of that on a website that you can freely access, I would suggest just copying it, so that both of you have the same things. That's a great thing with the digital world, everyone can have copies of things. I am surprised they stole something when they could just have copied it. I'm guessing it's some older individuals that don't know the possibilities of modern day technology to make copies.
They're a co-founder of The Pirate Bay, so has dealt with plenty of shit. There's other funny ones on there besides the NYT too.

As any real gamer knows, the time shortly before launch is an altogether very busy time full of FOMO and meaningful financial decisions to make.
The patrician gamer move is to wait until the game's been out a year, is no longer FOTM, and is available in a bundle that includes the base game and all published content up to that point in a ridiculously cheap "ultimate edition" bundle for $40 that's gone on a fire sale for $5.

And that's how I got The Division and all the DLC for $5. I enjoyed it, too.

I was even confused when I was writing that because I know you're not a shitposter like some here. Substring match triggered my autism.
I understand. I have a few hard-coded substrings that trigger my autism too. Though not as much as hearing a song on the radio with obvious artifacting on account of it being a badly encoded MP3.
Meanwhile, with the right samples, I can reliably discern 320kbps MP3 from FLAC on just about any headphones.
I can relate. To my ears, a 320kbps MP3 sounds flat compared to a FLAC, assuming of course I'm listening to the same track or piece. It's fine if you're in the car and just want to cram as much music into as little storage space as possible without completely crushing the sound quality, but I'm a stickler for FLAC or physical CD when I'm listening at home.

And yes, I know burning FLACs to a CD-R is double handling... but I just like the sensation of physically inserting a disc into my CD player and pressing the play button because autism, and burning lossy audio files to a CD audio format CD-R would be a waste of a CD-R.

Game Console Piracy/Homebrew
I'm in the "midst" of doing PS2 homebrew and it's genuinely so dogshit when your PS2 laser sucks. USB speeds are as quick as molasses, the CD/DVD laser, as per usual with any fucking console, has been torn to shreds, you need a goddamn memory card (which works fine but whatever, it's an extra purchase), the PS2 has a fucking 'proprietary'-esque AV connection and it just sucks to work with. USB drives actively REFUSING to be seen. I need to "defragment" my USB drives?? And specifically have your USB drives in MBR and not GPT. It's just such an annoyance after annoyance. - My DVD drive is a weird one, whereby it can easily launch games, but once it has to load more data in, it completely freezes in-game. You can actively see it dying from assets not getting loaded.

The actual piracy/homebrew side is fairly easy, it takes like 15 minutes, a memory card, a DVD, a DVD burner and a USB stick. And most of that time comes from burning the DVD for a whopping 15MB. But man do I not like anything about this so far. The Wii-3DS/PS3/X360-era really was peak homebrew scene. At least when those lasers fail, you can still rely on their USB ports.

Please for the love of god don’t bother with anything USB for ps2 besides copying homebrew tools. FreeMcBoot cards are a dime a dozen on eBay and if you have a phat PS2 invest in a HDD and bootleg SATA connector for it. I’ve had no issues running off HDD but if you’re able to, I’ve heard streaming games off of an Ethernet cable directly from your PC is faster.

Does anyone know how to properly download Photoshop? I had it installed like two months ago, everything was working fine. I hadn’t used it in a few weeks, so I decided to open it up. And it tells me that “trial is up” and that I have to pay a subscription.

Does anyone know how to get around this? I don’t know what I might’ve done wrong last time and I’d like to keep using Photoshop for free on my one device.

I need an opinion from someone who's more tech-savvy than me before I do something retarded (assuming I haven't already). I'm trying to download Ninja Ripper to extract 3D models from a game but the official version is paywalled on Patreon for $5.

My pride won't let me pay for Patreon so I searched for free downloads. The least sketchy site I found is Kemono which has a recentish version, I downloaded a zip file (haven't run the exes yet) but Virustotal doesn't like it:

4 warnings seems like a lot. Do I just bite the bullet and pay 5 bucks for some dude's Patreon or do I risk getting computer herpes?
Late but you have to pay it anyways as it has a paywall as well once you open it. This goes for anyone wanting it.

Monkrus has one, you have to disable Adobe's access to the internet. Look that up.
