Multi-faceted answer, tbh. First, it's harder to find reliable infrastructure to host this stuff, because most countries cooperate with the copyright cartel now (so any host you use will just shut you down and narc you out upon receipt of the first complaint) and those that don't are flooded with scammers and con artists of all kinds (so any host you use is just as likely to steal your money and run as actually provide good service).

Second, it's riskier and higher-stakes for obvious reasons. As this arrest/bust demonstrates, the gloves are off and they're genuinely trying to hit people harder for "piracy" than they are for literally having unprotected sexual intercourse with children (I say that explicitly just to help it sink in with people how fucked up these priorities are). You are at greater risk of long term imprisonment for uploading a copy of a fucking Hollywood film than you are for raping a child. That doesn't go unnoticed by the kinds of people who might think of setting up a replacement for a downed pirate site.

Third, more sadly, it's reaching a point where it's not worth it anymore. Very little of value is being created by modern content production farms (Hollywood, Youtube, etc.), so we're all basically just passing around the older stuff we feel is worth preserving. Eventually everyone who wants it has it, and there's not much point in spreading it around further, especially at such great risk. Who knew the "solution" to piracy was to just stop making anything worth pirating?
There is also the fact that downloading someone thing and keeping it on your hard drive is seen as kind of passe.
Most media barring audio books are all streamed. Even retro games are being uploaded and played through web browsers.

I've been pirating since Clinton was president and have never received any kind of letter. Even the MPAA didn't care enough about me.
I received a total of one. Was sharing a Internet connection with a friend at a remote job. Dumb ass downloaded a torrent of game of thrones 20mins after it aired raw without VPN.

Just got a reminder then pirating was illegal from it though.

The only reason I don't feel too bad telling people about soul-crushing, nigh-impossible surveillance we undergo daily at the hands of our asshole government is how god damn annoyingly arrogant people are in their assumptions that "oh that *can't* be done" and how irritatingly insulting they are to the people who try to fucking tell them.

They literally split the fucking fiber links at the backbone to send a copy of literally ever fucking byte to the NSA for surveillance. Edward Snowden's leaks confirmed it.

Just ask Mark Klein, another whistleblower who enabled this Grok-sourced reply because you're not worth spending more than about five minutes replying to:
Or they could just use Cloudflare as a middleman for reading everything
They basically created the modern DDoS-for-hire scene by offering booters free protection (read up on Krebs old reporting of how blatant they were).
Coincidentally this also blew up while NSA was getting kicked out of Google's internal fiber interconnects and other listening points, and they needed new points with "SSL added and removed here", which is just what Cloudflare now does for most of the internet.

They also have an account tier that links in to Usenet somehow? Not exactly sure on the details.
Usenet binaries groups were a very early form of widespread piracy, preceding even irc file servers. Originally they used the almost 50 year old uuencode, which converted binaries into normal ASCII that could be posted to a Usenet newsgroup. Not sure what they're using now, because the earlier method massively increased the file size, but apparently whatever they're using now is more efficient. So it's probably just trawling binaries newsgroups for you (rather than mirroring them themselves) when you do a search, then assembling the sometimes 100+ post long threads into something downloadable.

Hey guys, I'm just dropping in from August, 2001 with this report from TechTV. I hope that none of you are pirating cable or satellite TV! It's a serious crime that could put the cable and satellite TV companies out of business. I'm sure the government is going to crack down on these awful pirates since they won't have any other major concerns in the last few months of 2001.

A guy in my warehouse at work still brings in a bag of bootleg disks every Friday to hand out to people which I think is great. The warehouse workers love it. Its like a ghetto Blockbuster. He has camrips of stuff in theaters and popular tv series on streaming services. He either gets them from the flea market or burns them himself. He lets everyone pick 2 a weekend and you just swap out what you have with him each week to let other people have a chance to watch stuff.
I used to to something like that 20+ years ago. I worked in a busy restaurant and I used to sell bootleg DVDs I made myself for $5 a pop. I would also dig up rare/OOP/never in print stuff by request. My little operation made everyone happy and paid for my overall hardware and blank media costs.

I recall making $50 off a cam rip of Clerks 2. :story:

Ironically, he could be doing this with true and honest disks and I still would wish that I could be there. That is not just physical media nostalgia: I also like the 'ghetto Blockbuster' presentation and the community there.

Has anyone had the (continual) issue whereby faggoty Cuckflare verification boxes simply don’t fucking work? I’d just be sitting there, put in my credentials and before even clicking the verification box, it already errors out. Different browsers, extensions turned off, none of it works. Fuck you, Cuckflare, fucking work, for fuck’s sake.

Yes, mostly on Librewolf with a VPN active. Not all sites do it, but most. What I hate more is fucking Jeettube no longer playing videos without an account. Total Jeet Death.

Hello fellow IPTorrents user. I hope you have a good ratio.

Are these good numbers?
