I'm out of the loop on this one, but Google dealing with Reddit? Care to expand?
People were doing a lot of searches like "How do I hack my SNES Classic reddit", because at one point there were a lot of guides for that sort of thing on Reddit and most websites for that sort of thing were just pulling them from Reddit and then plastering the page with ads.

Google's not dumb. Google knows many people use its search engine as a gateway to find info on Reddit, so when Google launched its AI in search feature, it paid Reddit a fuckton of money to pull results directly from Reddit for AI training, so their AI models can tell you how to hack your SNES Classic directly based on Reddit guides. To this day, selling data to AI companies like this is the only profit Reddit has ever made.

You used to be able to use Reddit's old, text heavy, late 2000s /early 2010s interface by going to old.reddit.com. However, they've recently started phasing out Old Reddit, first by allowing only users to access Old Reddit and now they only allow accounts that have accessed it in the last six months to use it, meaning new accounts cannot use Old Reddit anymore for all intents and purposes. They've also phased out RSS recently, as you used to be able to access the RSS feeds from Old Reddit without an account. Reddit says this is to fight abuse from AI scrapers, but the reality is Reddit only makes money by selling access to users' posts, so Reddit wants to make damn sure nobody can scrape that data to train AI models without paying them first.

So basically you have a site full of people who claim to hate AI, yet the only reason the site continues to exist is because their posts are sold to train AI models. They are literally training the very AI models they claim hate for free while a platform partially owned by Tencent and Sam Altman profits because they literally can't not post. Those posts people made for free are Reddit's intellectual property as per the user agreement and anyone who uses this content Reddit didn't even create without Reddit's permission is committing copyright infringement.

Welcome to the Internet in 2026. This is why you should pirate everything you possibly can.

While I watch dipshit after dipshit whine and cry to everyone online about how they're getting legal threats and about what they should do.
We all know I'm retarded at this point. I got into torrenting after I finally got around to copying the hundreds of films I have on DVD to a hard drive. For the first ~200 titles, I was actually using a disc reader, HandBrake, and some DRM cracker for each and every movie. When I got to a title I absolutely love, I decided to try out this torrenting thing I'd been hearing about and find higher-quality versions of my favorite movies. Toward the end, I just started torrenting everything because it was exponentially faster than what I'd been doing. At this point, I'd been doing this for almost 2 weeks.

I had never used a VPN before, but I had loads of experience with proxy sites from my days for playing Stardoll as a little girl and wanting all the region-locked freebies. In true retard fashion, I started using a proxy site when downloading all of my torrent files and then processing said files on my PC sans VPN, thinking I was in the clear. I got a warning letter from my ISP a few weeks later (unbeknownst to me, this was the second one) and took to r/piracy for advice. What sage wisdom did Reddit have for me? Just ignore it. Guess whose internet was disconnected a week or so later. My dad was able to call and get it turned back on, being subjected to the sperging of a lifetime when the Mediacom rep saw Friday the 13th among the pirated titles. If I fuck up again, Mediacom say they will need to search every device in the house before restoring our internet.

I gave up on getting advice from Reddit at that point. They can't help with anything - even something as stupidly simple as "What's the best way to catch human hair in the washer?" yields nothing of any practical use whatsoever. Came to the Farms to find a good VPN. Came to the Farms to find a good hard drive. Y'all are infinitely more helpful and civil than Redditards.

Reddit is nothing but full of hypocritical dumbfucks. They don't know what they stand for and what they think they're standing with, is secretly fucking them over. And when they discover even that, they go right into defeatist/doomer mode to which their options are; Continue taking it up the ass or get the fuck off the internet.

And to this day, majority of them still take it up the ass. That may explain why they're so aggressive to anyone who bothers with them. It's all of that pent up defeatist rage that they carry on their shoulders.

We all were when we started, myself included. But we just learned from experience as to what to do and what not to do. Very much unlike a lot of today's pirates who, wants you to hold their hand every step of the way. Just so they could either throw you under the bus when shit gets out of control or just call you out for being useless, ironically.

And it's these kinds of pirates too that are getting shit shut down because they don't know how or when to shut the fuck up. Then they want all the more experienced pirates to help them do their dirty work when they're too lazy and inept to do anything for themselves.

Makes me believe that there are two kinds of pirates;

Pirates who want something for free, pick their target and say "I'm going to get it" and they do.

Then there are pirates who want something for free, but spend all of their time debating the moralistic decisions, asking around and still asking you to get it FOR them.

Their superiority complex is entirely unearned. The response to finding out I'm a Farmer is invariably "That's all I need to know."

Reddit changed after the deal with Google and it sucks ass now. You can't make Redditors happy. Everyone's mad all the time. The only worthwhile sub anymore is r/ouija.
kek Reddit's been dogshit for a LOOOOOONG time; Google injecting cash to bribe them into feeding their AI all the raw sewage Redditors generate did nothing to "change" it substantially. I find it hilarious Google thinks Reddit-tier shitposts and disinformation are worth paying $60 million to feed to a training regime to try to make something "smart" or "useful." Fucking morons.

I follow this thread so I keep seeing you call yourself that and while it may be true..... not to shine you on but maybe that's just part of learning something? You posted something about "being retarded" for using pcpartpicker but its legitimately a good site for dummy-checking compatibility (work smarter not harder) even things like whether or not your GPU too big to fit in the case . i had to dremel out part of my box to fit mine in

Years and years ago I got a BUNCH of emails at my dad's place making the same mistake pirating games and goyimslop TV. we didn't get disconnected but he was super mad about it
Nowadays we share usenet logins (that he pays for) so I guess that bridge is under the water

Don't you just love it when you've got a torrent at 96.3% downloaded and the seeder just stops seeding? After 11 days of waiting, I decided to try opening up the MP4 file only to discover qBittorrent is a lying sack of shit and the movie finished downloading 10 days ago.

I'll start you off on one of the funnier stories, though there is a lot of funny in Police Ten 7 (especially episodes from the '00s). Neo-Nazi spends a quiet Sunday afternoon having a wank next to his front window with the curtains open:
Sometimes you just gotta let it all hang out, man...

You're the first person I've ever heard get their internet disconnected. This is all so foreign to me, getting letters from ISPs, threatening to cut your internet connection and then even threatening with a search warrant. All I get is a blocked Pirate Bay screen with the word "Arrgggh!" on it.

If you want advice on how to get around this, though, is to get a VPN with SOCKS--

OH MY GOD FUCK OFF NIGGER.

--5 Proxy integration. VPNs give a very obvious sign that they're VPNs by saying in their packets "I'm a VPN". By using ShadowSOCKS or something like it, you change their packets to "I'm regular internet traffic actually", and it stops VPNs from getting blocked out. One of the VPNs that has this is Mullvad, which I'd advise to use. Some people in here complain about not being able to port forward but I never use Torrenting programs with a VPN so I wouldn't know, all my torrenting guides are on personal experiences.

A very autistic explanation.

Self-hosted VPN is trivial to implement. Find a cheap host w/"unlimited" traffic (you'll find out just how "unlimited" it is in short order), in a non-US-copyright-compliant country. Install a barebones OS on it. Install Wireguard on it and your home PC, then add a tunnel and connect it. Route your traffic through that. Bingo, when the tunnel's connected, you're "in that other country." When it's disconnected, you're not.

Your ISP can't see shit.

What are some good brands to look for when I need hard drives in the future? I probably should've just started with that question. I know Seagate is bad. SanDisk prices are stupidly high ($300 for 2TB while Western Digital is $260 for 6TB on Amazon). Western Digital seems like the most bang for your buck from a cursory glance.

I've been Team WD since the 90s and have never been let down. I buy the Red series ones that are made for NASs which are reliable for me.

Assuming you're after USB External drives, I always had pretty good luck with the Western Digital refurbished stuff that can be bought direct from their store.

If you are getting a hard drive, please for the love of god make sure they use CMR Data writing than SMR. SMR hinders performance a lot when it comes to writing data and if you are archiving games in general overtime, CMR makes it less of a hindrance when downloading in mass and using the hard drive.

SMR Drives aren't that much different price range with some even being more expensive at times compared to traditional CMR drives. Just make sure the drive does have CMR though since Western Digital makse any hard drive that is 8TB or more have CMR with anything under 8TB use SMR. I'm not sure what the other manufactures standards for that though.

Same here. I got 3 8TB WD External Hard Drives that were about £110 ($145) when I bought them from CeX and they haven't failed me for over a year. Of course, everyone caught wise to that so I haven't seen them back in CeX afterwards due to low stock.

I'd say that Seagate is inconsistent. Over the last 30+ years, I've had more Seagates fail than WDs, but I also have Seagates that are 20+ years old and still chooching.

The last Seagate I bought was about 4 years ago, and it failed within two months of purchase. The returns process was simple enough, and they sent me a refurbished 4TB HDD to replace my borked 3TB one. I'm still using that drive today, and I got a bonus TB worth of storage for my trouble. Can't complain.

I suspect this is comparing apples and oranges. That SanDisk is probably an SSD, whereas the WD would be good old fashioned spinning rust.

WD is a solid choice, and usually my first choice unless I can't get one or the price difference between WD and Seagate is too big to ignore.
