Persona community - A community that worships a fictional vigilante group. It also has tons of fanatical waifufags, coomers and people who don't even play the games of this series.

I will never understand people who unironically recommend P3P over any other version of P3. They genuinely believe having controllable teammates and a female protagonist makes up for everything else in the game being completely stripped down or a downgrade.
But I played that one first and liked it and that's how I ended up playing every other Persona and also Devil Survivor and Strange Journey and Nocturne :(

They're too stupid to know how to control AI team mates indirectly. MARIN KARIN

Just ask Persona fans what their favorite Persona game is, if they say "Persona 5 Royal (or Persona 3 Reload) is the best" or "Persona 3 best story, Persona 4 best characters, Persona 5 best gameplay" then they are obviously larpers.
Not entirely related, but it is my 100% unironic belief that the persona 4 anime is objectively better in every regard to the game. Genuinely a rare case of an anime adaptation improving the story with it's anime-original material and perfectly replicates the charm of the original story without the shit that makes the game insufferable to play. And this is coming from someone who normally absolutely hates anime adaptations of works in other mediums, even highly regarded ones like Welcome To The NHK, Trigun and Steins;Gate. Persona 5 is lame, 3 i never played.
The Anime gives Yu an actual personality instead of being a device for the player to explore the game and its story. The anime also somehow manages to condense an 80 hours game into a 25-episode anime and an OVA (for the true ending) and turns all Social Link stories into 2 episodes that are really funny (one from Nanako's PoV, the other from Yu's)

I mean, I watched Persona 4 the anime first, which got me interested in playing the original game. I liked playing Persona 4 at first, but then I tried out Persona 3 (specifically, the main campaign in the FES version) and I ended up loving Persona 3's story and characters instead.

Then when I played Persona 5, I really dug the atmosphere and the expansion of elements like the addition of activities in the real world and the extra benefits from Social Links, but I didn't vibe with the story and characters as much as I did P3. There's some stuff from Persona 3 Reload I appreciated, like the additional voice acting for Social Links, the badass special moves, and some extra flourishes to some of the cutscenes that made the emotional moments hit harder, but there's also some stuff from the original version of Persona 3 that wasn't carried over as well which I thought helped the overall atmosphere of P3.

Nowadays, I don't keep up with Persona news as much because I want to wait and see how Persona 6 will look, so any investment I have in Persona as a series is somewhat on hold for now.

While 3FES is far and away my favourite Persona game in almost every way - I'll concede that it felt like the AI party member system was an absolute ball-ache until you figured out how to game the system.
The FEMC Social Links are also pretty decent, I guess? But not worth all the quality of everything else you lose going from PS2 to Vita. and P3R has the link episodes anyway if you're really desperate

Anime game fans and anime fans are the same people, just combine this with the existing anime thread. But really though these games are kino they helped me get over western game burnout, 4&5 especially. If you let retard fanboys ruin things for you then you'll never be able to enjoy anything.

Yeah these games are deservedly popular. Most people can probably remember where they were at in their lives when they first played Persona 3/4/5, which you can't say about a lot of things. It just becomes a core memory to you in some way.

Any persona fan that complains about no fem-protag is a fucking troon and I'm tired of pretending they aren't. These fags actually think Atlus should do 1000+ hours if not days of work so they can goon from being a "real woman." p3 potable fans suck more than p5 and belong in a deep frying pot. YOU VILL ENJOY AI PARTY MEMBERS, YOU VILL PLAY A MALE CHARACTER, YOU VILL PLAY ON YHVH'S chosen CONSOLE, THE PS2, AND YOU VILL LIKE IT AND VILL BE HAPPY.

also jack bros > puzzle boy > SMT NINE > entire persona series unironically
I don't know, Persona (and JRPGs in general) has a shit ton of autistic female fans and Persona 2 had a female protagonist (although P2 had two protagonists)
It sucks that troons ruin femMC for others when it could just be simple otome side for women who want to date the male characters.

Anything is better than the moon link of the male side.Slinking your teammates is nice as it gives you more time with the most fleshed out characters, but they already get character growth through the main story

It was on the PSP, the vita could handle PS2 games just fine (although golden has a few minor visual downgrades in backgrounds)

don't get me wrong but i don't think that female players make up even 3% of SALES (not just watching a walkthrough but buying the games), that could change with the switch getting ports, but i highly doubt it.

And it seems like Atlus's market strategy right now is too get normie persona players into playing more old Megaten games with ports, sequels, and whole new games (smt3 port before P5 port, smt5 and v, soul hacker 2 being more character driven, metaphor being a fantasy flavored persona, and Atlus personally or via other companies porting and/or translating the more obscere metaten games, mostly the flip-phone games.)

To me, at least, it looks like atlus is trying to leavrage their quite frankly huge back catalog of games much like nintendo has been doing, and doesn't really seem to care about getting more female players because female players seem to tend to stick to one game or series and never branch out. I think more female players would be cool but i don't control that. and most the femMC compliants I've heard come from men, both online and offline so I'm a bit skeptical it isn't just a "see women, I support you, now go out with me" thing.

also hot take but female gamers are just the female verison of bronies,

There was a Shin Megami Tensei mmorpg in the late 2000s. It was brought over to North America some time after Persona 4 came out. It was one of the first pay to win mmos I'd seen with enough degenerate players "role playing" to put Second Life to shame.

Dating sims are pretty popular amongst women. Tokimori highschool (or whatever its called) kept going with their girls side versions after the main line perished. Persona isnt too difficult and s.links are practically dating sim events. JRPGs are pretty popular too, there's a sizeable female final fantasy fanbase (something like 30%). MMORPGs also have a lot of women, and they engage with the gameplay just fine. Maybe in the modern era where you can load up a lets play you have less female players, but you also lose men that are just there for the s links. And when P3P and P4 came out, lets plays were relatively small and streaming didnt really exist.
The female protagonist probably was designed to get more women to buy the game (handhelds are bigger amongst women than home consoles), but it also served as a way to get men to buy the game again after P3 and P3FES.

Either way I don't think it's just 2%, I would say 20% as a conservative estimate. P5 might lack a female protagonist, but plenty of women like joker.

But I don't think they have a lot of conversion from persona to other SMT games. I remember SMT4 coming out and all the normalfags were just confused where the social links were. An edit of the box cover plastered with quotes of games journalist reviewers asking where the slinks were.

4chan /vg/ generals tend to create chat room queens that just talk with each other and spam anime girls. That's how you end up breeding nyarlkos.
Several years back I checked out a P5 thread on /vg/ since I had recently played through it and was curious, and not even halfway through it devolved into a complete tard fight with namefags arguing with each other over pointless shit that I could not possibly recall. I didn't really lurk the generals too much at the time, so I just assumed it had something to do with the community itself. I guess in hindsight it was simply an amplifier to that kind of autism.

Unless it's a game as a service, all generals degenerate into circlejerks. There is only so much you can talk about a game before you exhausted the content. For persona you can discuss fusions and maybe some optimalisations for a 1 year 100% run, but there is only so much you can talk about. Eventually most sane people that don't hyperfixate on one game to make it their life leave, leaving the autistic retards behind. The autistic shitposting pushes out the rest of the normal people. What you are left with is "my videogame girlfriend is better than yours" and "my version of the videogame is better than yours", as neither can be conclusively resolved.
