Because a job with no benefits or any of the perks that a real job has that could literally collapse out from under you before you know what's happening is a great idea! In all honesty, it's not the worst idea, but you should make absolutely sure you have a backup plan, or else you'll end up like DSP.

Youtube ad changes, patreon changes, these "content creator" doods are always so paranoid about free money.

Imagine if Patreon vanished, youtube went to its old ad-free format, would any of these "content creators" still do what they do? Or would they just ditch their fans once the free money stops?

Some people work hard and put out quality entertainment. I think they deserve money. They should make a patreon/YouTube hybrid so they make money for quality content.

There's a very simple way they could do this, and it wouldn't require them to change the way they charge users.

They could start enforcing their own rules and terminating accounts that don't deliver content in exchange for the donations.

Like Spoony, for example - motherfucker NEVER delivered a single reward for any of his Patreons, and hasn't produced ANY content in 1 YEAR - but he's still allowed to keep his $590+ Paymetons because he's a bullshit virtue-signalling faggot on Twitter.

I'm sure they could end almost every scammy and scummy Patreon scheme if they just started culling out these pests. The way they're doing it, these fuckers will cry and bitch and moan until they rollback the changes, like Twitter did when they changed the way blocking worked.

I am so happy that this thread exists. I didn't think that there were that many people on the internet who thought that getting donations through Patreon, PayPal, and other means is as dumb as I do.

This thread, however, has proven me wrong. My faith in humanity is somewhat restored.

This might be an unpopular opinion but...I think these internet people need to get a job. For real. Not just 'some' of the internet people who are less talented. All of them.

Hmmm...I don't know. They could do what...all of the OTHER YouTubers who work full time or go to school or BOTH do; make time for putting content on the internet. Wait. that would require logic. What was I thinking? These individuals all lack any kind of reasoning skills.

Oh well. I'll just be over here, eating my popcorn, and watching this dumpster fire burn in front of me. Don't mind me.

Note: Also, I don't care if people have Patreon accounts, PayPal donation buttons, Sponsorships, online stores, or other ways of earning money on the side. It seems reasonable to have these things for the occasional tip or something. But they shouldn't be making a LIVING off of what is essentially supposed to be a glorified online tip jar. That is just my two cents on the matter.

Working a real job is hard! You have to wake up early, take regular baths, keep personal hygiene to a certain degree, interact with other people, follow orders... who woudl want to do that? It's easier to beg and whore yourself out on Twitch.
 
Like all SJWs, they are leaping to the conclusion that Patreon is doing this because they hate them for being (insert minority subtype here). They are doing it because you've been ripping them off for years, and they're tired of not getting paid.
