We've built a fucking gun.

I guess I now have to stay with the Hermetics to make use of it, though I was intending to convert to Buddhism right after writing a magnum opus and getting the mystic trait. Apparantly I can remain within the Hermetics upon conversion even though Buddhists aren't allowed to join the society normally.

Ante Bellum is one of the most popular overhaul mods for EU4. They just announced that they're abandoning work on their EU5 mod, citing constant updates and reworking of systems as being disruptive to their own work, the balancing of the game seeming to be for meta multiplayer games rather than strategic historical roleplay, the delaying of the Ambitions system until late 2027, and low manpower.

Will they ever put out 1.10 for EU4? I refuse to join a discord just to get updates on a mod's progress.

Absolute kino, one of my favourite AtE runs was doing a True Cross run and taking over California. How much more do you plan to add?
Well, it's already done. You get to go one pilgrimage to either Portland, Redding, or LA, you get three religious traits you can choose from like normal Nazarenes, and you can join Evangelical or Catholic monastic orders depending on which religious trait you have. A custom event for conquering California too. There's also events for studying religious texts, just like the Nazarenes.

Can I have it?

Kingdom: Formed :agree:
Capital: Relocated :agree: and converted :agree:
Succession: Primo:agree:
Perfect heir: Dead :disagree:
China: Mongolia :disagree:
All of my Grace: Completely fucking gone :disagree:

I had 7000 Grace horded up that I couldn't use as they've been isolationist for most of the damn game.
The fact you can get primogeniture before 860 is wild.

I still suck at HoI4 but I did manage to finally beat Sinkiang as the Khotan Ma by going the Undermine KMT Rule route. Trying to multitask holding the Japanese at bay and staging incidents in Qinghai Ma to take the Unite the Hui decision. The Chinese Sultanate will be real inshallah, move over Mongols.

Imperator Rome is amazing
I heard it got significantly better since launch, how is it now? Are mods like Invictus or Terra Indomita still essential? I know Paradox abandoned it but surely something was done before then?

Ah that's a classic. Still retarded that you have to stick with the Hermetics to use it (it should be if you made the artifact or have high learning with being in the order just another option) but nothing a quick mod can't fix. You even get special variants of standard combat events like the duels (hell it's made for duels), you can be an absolute wimp for negative combat skill and still have a good chance at winning.
If you give it to your apprentice or anyone else (preferably a commander in your armies) who is in the order, you can get another handgun. Repeat until everyone in the order under your banner has them.
Get the dual wielding artifacts mod for medieval Max Payne since you can regain these artifacts.

IDK, I never played at launch, only after it was killed by PDX.

Invictus is very popular but TBH unless you really care about playing someone other than Rome/Diadochi/Athens/Sparta you don't need it.

It's basically a blend of Vicky 2 pops/EU4 economy (but actually good) with a really nice map painting vibe and a really tight historical setting.

It takes a while to get used to all the systems and play properly so I like to recommend Egypt for your first game, learn the economy and pop system and turn Egypt into Makedonia 2.0, then Rome for the 2nd game to learn warfare and AE mechanics/etc.

Khotan gang rise up. That's my CK2 kingdom also.

Formed the Ruthlessness bloodline, "Vile blood of Zhou Shuda". -10 vassal opinion, +2% global revolt risk, +15% imprisonment chance, can plot to revoke any title that was not recently granted. I wasn't aware plotting to revoke titles was something you could do in this one, it's hidden in the intrigue menu.. Very intredasting. I'm told this bloodline is actually very powerful in spite of the intimidating drawbacks.

Edit: Also just managed to mix the Songsten Gampo bloodline in to my next heir for more prestige and sky burials. Attaining bloodlines here is pretty convoluted, how you have to get it passed matrilneally to someone of your dynasty, then inbreed with that dynasty member matrilinially through another heir to then have it for your heirs.

China have finally switched from Isolationist to Expansionist, I can now farm Grace and benefit from Silk Road again. I'm tempted to convert to the new Emperor's Khitan culture for the ability to raid, AFAIK that shouldn't invalid the achievement despite its description of needing to remain Han all game (you apparantly only need to both start and end as Han according to to wiki). I'd rather not risk it anyway, but damn, raiding would be huge right now.

China being Mongoloid seems a great rp justification for trying to invade and place a Han dynasty member upon the throne in future... worth considering.

I'm having a very hard time just finding a Muslim willing to come to my realm to help me convert. I'll have to give up my ability of being able to use my gun if I join the devil worshippers (should I ever find them) and gain the ability to abduct, in the worst case scenario.

Decisions are a feature many of you are already quite familiar with, and don’t worry, we're not reinventing the wheel. If you are familiar with their EU4 counterpart, you should feel pretty at home here. That being said, we do need to give Decisions enough time in the sun to see how they play out within the deeper framework of EU5 before we start utilizing them more extensively. So, consider the update 1.4 ‘Río Salado’ as the first iteration of them in EU5! And a base content delivery system we will build on in the future.

With all that being said, here is our vision for how EU5 decisions operate, and the design goals behind them. I’ll let our Content Design lead Pavia take it away!
@Pavía here, glad to come back to Tinto Talks! Something we’ve been working intensely on in the past few months has been the visualization of the existing content in the game. We listened to the community and clearly understood that it was frustrating for a lot of you to not know when a Dynamic Historical Event (DHE) with a meaningful Government Reform would trigger, or when that event chain that unlocks a new unique Law with some different Policies would pop up. And, to be honest, it was also frustrating for us, because we have put a lot of effort into making a lot of content for the game already for its release version, and it was not showing up.

We took a first step towards improving that via the Event Viewer that we released in the 1.2 ‘Echinades’ update. As DHEs are our most numerous content asset, with more than 4,000 currently in the game (over a total of more than 8,000, so around 50%), it helped a lot with overviewing all the content being unlocked by DHEs, and also the triggers needed to get it - which, as a side byproduct, is also allowing us to fix and tweak DHEs across the board, with the help of your reports, to make sure that you can play and experience it. That also surfaced another issue, which was some lack of player agency, as you also reported that sometimes, waiting for these DHEs to trigger was feeling a bit more like a waiting room than a playing experience.

This is the spot that the recovery of Decisions as a Content Delivery System ought to play. Structurally, they aren’t too dissimilar, as they have potentials, triggers, and effects. However, they make for a more active interaction with the game’s content, as the moment the triggers are fulfilled, they can be clicked and acted upon. Therefore, many of the current 1.4 decisions are not new content, but rather content that has been transformed from events that unlock other content (that rely on a bit of luck and can be a cumbersome goal to work towards).

We will keep adding new Generic and Unique Decisions over time, as this a new CDS we have available in the ‘menu of content creation’ - which also means that will be available to modders in the 1.4 ‘Río Salado’ update, of course. We will also be glad to receive your feedback on what are the Decisions, both generic and historical, that you want to play in the game, and we’ll do our best to take it into account. And now, I’ll pass back the word to Ryagi, to explain a bit more in detail how the EU5 Decisions work in practice, and show some examples.
So, how long until they bring back mission trees?

This is the second time I thought you were talking about becoming a monk in real life USA.

Hopefully never.
They're going to have to do something to make the game more dynamic. My current game is almost in 1700 and the map pretty much looks the same as in 1350.
The Ambitions system that's been delayed until late 2027 is supposed to be the replacement for missions.
The problem with mission trees - aside from the bloat, powercreep and filler - was that they functionally replaced decisions instead of complimenting them. It's not like the EU4 ai had trouble expanding before them either, and they didn't actually solve issues like ahistorical colonizations of Africa or an inability for European powers to organically get into India and Indonesia.

I'm fine with the concept of giving the AI some guidance towards historical aims and I'm fine with the player being rewarded for pursuing those too, but there needs to be a clear delineation between decisions and ambitions/mission trees before those are made.

EU4 mission trees were always a stopgap solution to railroad things that couldn't be simulated with the game's mechanics. If they get added to EU5, I'll take it as a sign PDX has given up on creating interesting systems.

The AI in EU5 is just never going to be good; it completely fails at using the mechanics of the game in even the most basic way. Unironically, the only thing that can be done for it is giving the AI magic buffs to boost their economy and make their armies immune to starvation.
