ttyd remake ended up being even more of a monkey's paw because now nintendo has no reason to even put the GC version on NSO

look at how long it takes in comparison just to pick up and throw a fucking item away

"they'll patch the game to make it faster" nigga no they won't
The original was so snappy and fluid while the remake is “WHOOOOAAAA LOOK AT THIS FLASHY VISUAL that runs at 30 FPS with dips HIRE THIS MAN”.

I wish tha the remake of The Thousand-Year Door had a mod manager, since putting the mods I wan to put manually caused some conflicts. Loading the game, after some cherry-picking and adjustments, seems to work fine, but I want something more robust.

Holy shit, FINALLY. Between this and the other linked restoration mods, I will now play your game. Eventually.

Also, one of the linked mods is “TTYD/SPM Mario Face”. I wanted to know if they restored the waving pose that some crybabies thought look like a sieg heil, and…

It now looks even more like a sieg heil :story:
Pleas excuse the double-posting, but may I have the old version wi the wave?

Someone PLEASE just backport all the new sprites and everything added in this remaster into the original game so that we can have the TRUE definitive version of it. We don't need this "Flashy paper aesthetic at 30 FPS" horseshit, the game looked fine and ran great as is.

Recently, I managed to 100% Bug Fables, had a great time with it, but man, that game made me really appreciate how badges worked in the first two Paper Mario games and how customizable they were.

Bug Fables "medals" are just so annoyingly balanced and limiting: oh you want +1 power? well you can use Poison Attacker that gives you +1 attack when you're poisoned (requires 3 BP) with Weak Stomach that triggers poison on yourself (1 BP) but only if you consume an item alongside it, or maybe you want to +1 power at the cost of -1 defense with Power Exchange (5 BP)... you don't want any downsides? well, there's one that makes you ignore 1 defense called "Antlion Jaws" (also 5BP), is that good enough? Good right?... Did I mention you need to do all this work for an effect that only applies to 1 of the 3 party members? No? Well, sucks to be you lol.

Meanwhile Paper Mario just gives you +1 Power for 6 BP, that's it, no gimmicks, no self-conditional requirements, just deal 1 more damage to all enemies. Even the ones who have conditions are simply "don't fail the action command" or "you can't use your hammer" which are way more sensical than needing to poison yourself everytime you wanna deal 1 extra point of damage.

I actually really like the bug fables badge/stat system it makes you specialize each character. optimally vi is your damage dealer, kabbu is your tank and lief is your utility. You can do alternate builds though lief can be a crowd control damage dealer or you can make vi a status inflicter, or kabbu can be the utility. Since you can respec your levels it also lets you drop most upgrades into bp in the late game to truly shape the team however you want.

In my playthrough, I actually made Kabbu to be my one-bug-army with Vi and Leif being there to support him. I actually saw Vi's potential as a damage dealer at the beginning, but then chapter 3 happened: The chapter that starred enemies with 2 defense, and all other enemies having 1 defense, specially those annoying Denmukis that have 3 defense after curling up (that you had to attack with Kabbu to flip them off) and straight up just paralyzes you if you don't guard, and after experiencing all of that, I realized that I wasn't even halfway in finishing the game yet!

So for the rest of the game, I kinda just had the mindset that every enemy I would encounter will have 1 defense or more, "so why bother with the other 2 bozos?" I thought. I wasn't entirely wrong, but I do kinda regret not trying Killer Vi at least once (the superbosses specially kicked my butt for not killing them fast enough), but the story mode was pretty beatable without much trouble, and Kabbu was my absolute GOAT eiherway, so eh, all well ends well.

I guess you're right that the medal system does make each party member have a more definitive role in-battle, but I still think it kinda sucks on how many of the medals make you jump through loops and hoops just to get somewhere, meanwhile the Paper Mario games have badges that are pretty impactful on their own

Being able to convert levels into other stats in late game is pretty fun though I won't lie.

I have Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door remaster on Switch. Paper Mario Origami king also on Switch. Paper Mario Sticker Star. Mario and Luigi Paper Jam.

Haven't played any of them except a few hours in Origami King.

Congratulations, just get Color Splash and you’ll have all the shit games and none of the good ones.

Out of all of those, the only one that was somewhat salvageable was Paper Jam. But even then, it quickly went to shit after a very specific point in the game

I guess that's what happens when more than half of your series is garbage.
"paper mario" isnt really a series. It's more reasonable to say the "series" starts with mario rpg (the remake is pretty damn good btw) then goes PM64 PMTYD, then branches to the mario and luigi titles since those are the ones that really continue the qte/jrpg style. Yea you can include sticker star or origami king in that list but why complain about bad games when good titles exist.

I think it's unreasonable to say Mario & Luigi and Paper Mario are games from the same series. It's like saying that the Mario Strikers games and Mario Tennis games are from the same series because they're both sports games.

Both are RPGs with action commands yes, but they have very different settings and worlds to explore, they don't even play the exact same and there's so many reasons why, unless you consider all turn based RPG gameplay to be the same.

Its not the end of the world that they keep pushing bad games. But it infuriates me that the reason why they don't make a good game is mainly because they don't want to,

Well, the first 3 M & L games are only strung together by Fawful (and those aliens). But at the end of the day, Nintendo was never really focused on developing an overarching plot

No "sport" isnt a genre theyre two different games with different rules.

M&L is the same genre as the predecessors I listed. Setting is irrelevant, game mechanics are all that matters.

Sport IS a genre like "Shooter" and "Racing". You can go to any console online store right now and see that a MLB game and a FIFA game have their genre both listed as "Sports" and not "Baseball" and "Soccer" respectively.

M&L and Paper Mario are from the same genre, but they aren't from the same series. Even worldbuilding aside, the game mechanics are different enough to make both games their own thing. There are no badges and partners in M&L or Bros Attacks and "dodgeable"* attacks in the first two Paper Mario games for once.

*Superguards are a thing in TTYD, but the game is not built around it as much as the normal guard. The devs didn't expect you to take 0 damage 99% of the time unlike in M&L.
