Now that the dust has settled, do we actually know what happened here with the script? Because from my knowledge I don't believe any Nintendo games before this remake really had as much script-scrubbing as this one did. DEI? Some localizers inserting their personal agendas? NOA trying to be as "child friendly" as possible? I know Nintendo doesn't really go too in depth about their development process so I doubt we'll see an official answer I just am wondering what actually happened during the development and why
Intelligent Systems has to be a big reason. Their Fire Emblem localizations have been bad ever since Fates, which is also the first Nintendo game to include gay marriage. Their Rhythm Heaven Megamix localization was also infamously bad.

I've only played the Wii one, but don't those games barely have any actual dialogue or text aside from tutorials? What's to ruin?
It screams “trying way too hard to be funny”, something that a few Nintendo games did in the mid 2010s as Treehouse thought referencing contemporary memes = quality localization. One of the minigames is called “Kitties”, and it’s about matching the rhythm of the cats clapping and yada yada yada, the Japanese description is a brief overview of the game and how to play it, same as any other minigame. The US version?

(Sorry for the giant uncropped YouTube screenshot, I’m mobileposting.)
They also didn’t bother localizing the vocal themes, they’re just instrumentals. At least you can enable Japanese audio this time.

They get worse every year because pussies allow them to steamroll over anyone and anything that gets in their way rather than tell them to cut that shit out.

Anyone with a brain would have told them to shut the fuck up and get the fuck out. This is what you get when you don't stand your ground because to these people its NEVER enough and will always want more. It's a beast that is constantly feeding.
Worse than the beast is who feeds it; these fence-sitting, bothsidesism retards who enable it by saying shit like "it's not that bad". I hate them more than anything.

I didn't play much at all of Origami King, has anybody bothered to compare the English & Japanese versions to see if there's anything of note? Maybe their games are always getting butchered localizations now.

I recently heard of a podcast episode from a Japanese to English Manga translator about Paper Mario and the Origami King, and to my surprise, I found it quite intriguing about how he praised the localization.

One scene he highlighted was with Bobby's Sacrifice: Basically in the Japanese script, this entire scene is played as dry and direct as it can get, but in the English version, the translators made Bobby feel a bit more nervous, with him telling some bomb puns to raise the mood.

I actually do find it better because of 2 things:

1- Bobby telling Mario "laugh is the best medicine" to help Olivia's sadness makes even more sense for the character.

2- Before Bobby explodes, he says "This is what every Bob-omb hopes for-a chance to change something for the better. To make an impact." which makes you think "haha, funny bomb pun". Later on when you meet the Bob-omb squad, Olivia has this dialogue with their main leader:

Olivia: "But I thought Bobby was gone... after he saved my life with that big kaboom..."

Bob-omb: "Do you have me confused with another Bob-omb? It's OK-it happens all the time."

"We do our jobs, and when we're done, there's always another Bob-omb there to take our place."

"All any of us can hope is for to make an impact... ma'am."

The manga translator says that none of this is in the Japanese version.

He also mentioned that that there's somethings he found better in Japanese (like one of the boots being a direct reference to a famous race car rather than something generic), but it basically came down to "This joke doesn't work in the other language/This character is slightly different, but their plot reasons are the same"

I even bothered to see other sources, and yeah, the only thing new I would add is just characters having different speech patterns.

My best guess why the Origami King wasn't butchered (or AS butchered depending who you ask) is maybe because TTYD's dialogue was too "mean-spirited" for it's own good, so they felt the need to overcorrect as much as possible.

Do note that IS changed Vivian's dialogue in the Japanese version of the remake too... but everything else was the fault of the English translators.

I just hope they don't remake Super Paper Mario as it's my favorite. I can stand the changes in TTYD at least but I feel like SPM has even edgier dialogue in this regard. The entirety of the Fort Francis subplot would have to be reworked to comply with their asinine standards

They'd turn him into a strawman woman hating incel stereotype that'd say some line that'd tie back to gamergate or star wars post disney somehow. Can't have a humorous bit where you have to break into the massive house of a mostly innocent shut in nerd autistically obsessed with his hobbies in current year.

I'm retarded, how the hell do you even patch a mod into a switch game? Can anyone give me a quick rundown here?
On emulator, you download the mod to a certain directory, enable it within the emulator (right click -> Properties or something), and play. On console, same thing except I don’t know if you need to go through a separate menu to actually enable the mod.

It’s not a double post if it’s two months later, right? :)

The Tower of Trials mod for TTYD released a couple weeks ago, and from what I’ve played, it’s really freaking good. It’s not the first mod to turn Paper Mario into a roguelite, but it’s definitely the best (though Black Pit for PM64 is also really good). The new mechanics are fun, it’s well-balanced with weaker partners getting buffed and some badges getting reworked. Metaprogression is well-implemented, with plenty of ways to change difficulty in exchange for better/worse rewards. It’s also surprisingly forgiving with multiple mid-run save points; real save points, not the kind that works once then goes away when you reload. Even the dialogue is - get this - fun. So far, I have no complaints. I recommend it for anyone who wants a Paper Mario whitepill.

TTYD didn't even need a remake, the original is perfectly fine, they just did it to appeal to fanboys and now we have a fucking troon character because of faggots localizing the game. The remake is just worse in almost every aspect, even the graphics, it's shit and it didn't need to exist

The E3 2010 trailer of Paper Mario Sticker Star has finally been found.
Being completely 100% honest, while visually I think it's better than the final release of SS, everyone saying "oh man, this would have been SO MUCH better than what we got!", this still feels like a downgrade compared to SMP and even moreso compared to the first two entries. There's only 2 unique enemies shown off (the bonefish and the purple King Monty Mole) and the rest is preestablished Mario creatures. Maybe it would have been better than what we got (possibly being closer to "Origami King" in terms of quality and usage of partners), but seeing as no star point/EXP system was shown off I doubt we were really "robbed" of anything worthwhile.

This makes me ask how much that Shiggy quote that's thrown out in regards to how SS turned out the way it did actually impacted it's development or if the quote was made any earlier than that E3 trailer.

Honestly, the worst part of the trailer is also the worst part of the final game: the battle system seems exactly the same.
I am giving this a pass on the design department, since this was a beta trailer.

This would actually make an interesting hack: making the Paper Mario Sticker Star people thought we re going to get. With Star Rod and the decompilation permitting large control over hacking the ROM and som emulators upporting HD textures, that would be possible in theory.
In practise, the only reason why any (SFW) 'demake' would trum Paper Mario Sticker Star would simply be cause the bar is that low.

The TTYD remake has one saving grace*:
It comes with tons of high resolution concept art.

*(which is pretty much the same as all these other remasters coming out)

E:NVM. Just looked 2 pages back. It's been a while.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=JzLRFKcAloE>They not REALLY censoring it, they're just changing dialogue in an old game for politically-motivated reasons so it lines up with Current Year standards as opposed to the standards of when it was originally released!
>And it's only certain things so it doesn't count!
>And those changes needed to be made anyway (and that's a good thing)!
>People didn't care about the dialogue anyway (even though the one thing people wouldn't shut up about for years besides the battle system was how much better the writing used to be) so who cares?
>Don't criticize, just consoom!

For what it's worth, Origami King got a 60 FPS mod on day 1.
The retard disabled the comment section lol.

ttyd remake ended up being even more of a monkey's paw because now nintendo has no reason to even put the GC version on NSO

look at how long it takes in comparison just to pick up and throw a fucking item away

"they'll patch the game to make it faster" nigga no they won't
