I thought it was kind of schizo at first, but the more I think about it the more it does make sense kinda. Especially when you consider Francis and his question about browsing imageboards complaining about games he never played.
it's kinda blatant and doesn't really need a video essay considering a computer select tool cursor is how the flipping effect happens and that's the MAIN GIMMICK OF THE GAME.

Super Paper Mario is good but it's not really a RPG, never played Sticker Star and Color Splash but I hear they are awful, and Origami King is ok, but not for the RPG gameplay.
It's a mix of a mario platformer with rpg elements, hence the name of the game.
Also color splash has one saving grace and it's the fact it has a boss fight theme that's blatantly supposed to be a goofy mario-ized version of RAINING BLOOD by slayer.

Timestamped the blatant bit here.

Ok do you defend this travesty too or do you think it looks like shite? Just asking for a fren.
That's just an attempt at replicating paper mario 64's artstyle.

Dream Team and Paper Jam are not as strong as its predecessors (specially Paper Jam), but they're still good games imo,
It’s funny how Super Paper Mario and Paper Jam are almost opposites. SPM is somewhat lacking in terms of gameplay (unless you really like 2D platformers which, given that you’re playing a Mario game, you probably do) but everything else about it is great, while PJ has great battle mechanics (and good enough music) but everything else is shit.

I do think Paper Jam to has some hilarious dialogue, but I couldn't agree more. It baffles me that they decided to combine both Mario RPGs and literally show absolutely nothing on what make them so special. Where's the wacky designs from the Mario & Luigi Series, where's the recurring characters from Paper Mario? I'm sure glad to go on an adventure to fight... Bowser... the Koopalings... oh oh, don't forget my favorite Mario & Luigi character! Pokey and King Pokey!

For crying out loud, they decided to bring Paper Kamek back but not Kammy Koopa. In fact, I don't think I seen any element from Paper Mario besides... paper.

Apparently Alphadream developers thought the same and wanted to make something pretty grand featuring the two RPGs, but at the time (and given what we know now) they could not afford to pour a bunch of time, money and resources into a great Paper Jam experience and opted to go for a way smaller budget game with reused assets and pre-established Mario enemies instead.

Holy Christ, does a new piano piece really play during the intimate Quiz moment with Peach and TEC, and a sappy sad piece for when TEC "dies"?
Are there more musical pieces like this for emotional quiet moments? Way to completely ruin a simple shocking revelation to Peach and mock the player as if they couldn't figure out what was going on without some sad sap music to clue you in on the situation.

Subtlety and restraint really are dead. You just can't get immersed with environmental sounds, you need your sad piece, or whimsical tune inserted at any moment. Anything to get everything from the bloated soundtrack in.

This "more is more actually!" design philosophy is showing in all of this remake. All tracks need to be remixed even if it drowns out the main part of the track and defeats its entire point.

It's fine when "more is more" translates into a bunch of new sprites and expressions for the characters, but a lot of the time you can tell it's driven by misguided modern PM sensibilities (cancer).

If we're being fair, this also happens in moments where the regular music would have been playing in an area with no changes. My memory might also be bad on this but I'm pretty sure the TEC room has always just sounded like this (the ambient noise) at all times, so it's not as if the silence was ever a choice by the director. It was just the "music" for the room as far as they were concerned.

I really thought that script restoration mod would be finished by now *sigh*
But it would be too little too late at this point. It’s amazing how much they completely screwed up with this remake. I’d be impressed if I weren’t so disgusted.

TTYD honestly feels like it's already a dead game and i wonder if that's why theres no script restoration mod yet. I don't see anyone talk about the game online. I get Nintendo and RPG stuff recommended all the time, but I don't see anything about this game anymore. I searched on YouTube and it's only giving me results from 3 weeks to a month ago. It feels like Color Splash, Sticker Star, and Origami King had much bigger staying power, maybe because they were so decisive, while this one is largely a bland remake.

I still don't understand why Nintendo doesn't take all the cut content from their rushed gamecube games and implement them in the remakes. I think that would have helped this game and Wind Waker a lot if they had done that. And also not mess with the script.

I was very busy these days, which means that I did not ge to actually do that 'Everything Else Dewoked' mod yet. There needs ome setup first, since these tools are new to me.

So much for Paper Mario is back
shit was so dead even the culture war shenanigans surrounding it was barley anything
makes me wonder just how popular is this game outside it's fanbase and audience

Someone was working on a mod a while back on GayBanana, but they finished 75% followed by radio silence.
But yeah, there’s less to talk about online with a remake relative to a new game. What is there to discuss? New characters? New mechanics? New story and lore?
I tried TTYD, but jesus is it a slog to start. I'll try some more, but man..... Maybe I'll try SS.
If that’s your definition of a slog, then I have some bad news about Superstar Saga.

It’s back alright, they resurrected its corpse and slapped rainbow paint on it.

Everything is flavor of the month now, especially if there is some political controversy.

I was personally waiting for a script mod for Eiyuuden Chronicles that appears to have never materialized.

It's odd to describe a single player game as "dead." There's limited content due to the game having a proper ending and a vast majority of it is already understood or has been discussed since it's a remake. People will quickly run out of things to say. There aren't many ways to say "it's good" or "this is different than the original" in a way that's particularly riveting. Divisive games are going to have prolonged discussion because people are going to argue about it. Or, in the case of Color Splash and Sticker Star, they're still getting talked about to this day because it's almost beyond comprehension how awful their game direction is.

I do agree that I want to see cut content integrated into remakes. The whacka fight in this remake is based on actual cut content, although I think it was something which was only originally considered for 64. I would love to see the partners return like they originally planned. It's hard thing to envision, but many things are cut from a game for a good reason. Sometimes it is just for time, which I think the partners returning were cut because of. But other times it is just because it's not fun. Mario Sunshine had this weird thing people like to talk about:

And I see people say it would have been cool to see it in action, but mechanically this was an enemy that spawned more enemies and aimlessly wandered around, which from the description alone sounds irritating more than interesting. There's an inherent mystery to cut content, and people will wishfully fill in the gaps themselves to make it seem more fun than it actually would have been. What kind of things cut from Wind Waker were you thinking of?

It's been out for a month bros. There's also the mod that only changes Vivian's text that got the GameBanana jannies in a twist.
