I think I found another bit of censorship...I haven't done a full playthrough of the GameCube original in years but I'm about 99% sure I remember the ghost Toad on the Excess Express telling Mario he wants his soul instead of his life. Other than all the stuff that was changed for political correctness or wokeness or whatever all of the dialog does seem to be exactly the same as I remember it. I'm already up to Gloomtail and there still hasn't been any more references to Vivian being a dude beyond that one line where it's easy to pretend she's saying something more ambiguous thank god.

FTFY. I don’t know about other regions, but the US has always had Birdo as female aside from one single instruction manual from 35 years ago. And her name is OSTRO, get it right.
The ostro/birdo swap is in the credits and is a mistake. Ostro is an ostrich. That's why the name is Ostro.

I'm sure it was talked about earlier in the thread already and like it was said back a few pages, Mario Story was a working title, a prototype.
No, that was Super Mario RPG 2. PM64 is Mario Story, and TTYD was Paper Mario RPG.

Super Mario RPG 2 was another game entirely and would've prolly looked alot more like Super Mario RPG. So no.
You are wrong. There were pictures of early versions of Paper Mario in game magazines in the 90s when it was still slated to be a 64DD game and they were calling it Super Mario RPG 2. Check out this early screenshot and description from Ultra Game Players in 1998.

It was being called Mario Story in North America prior to release too, but Super Mario RPG 2 was the original working title.

I can't remember what game it was i think it was one of the Yoshi games where i felt the gimmick was just the art direction and nothing else. Like it is the same game just with an art style that screams its "uniqueness" at you despite basically being the same game as before. During the time of typing this i found out what the game was. Kirby did the same thing too.

idk what it was about Nintendo and yarn during the WiiU era but they sure as hell loved it.

It is. It's literally the old localization copy pasted. Troons will defend the new one calling it "more accurate to the Japanese version" but it's literally the same but with censorship added.

You are talking about a game where you literally fly as a paper aeroplane, roll yourself up like newspaper and roll around on the ground, and make yourself completely flat, like a piece of paper, to get through cracks in the walls and tight spaces.

Nintendo leaning into the paper aesthetic isn't what killed the series. Nintendo being creatively devoid and making the most homogenised sequels possible because the first three didn't sell what they expected is what killed the series.

The irony here is, even if they didn't fuck with Thousand Year Door and its localisation, it still would have been a painful reminder that Nintendo is not the company they used to be. The fact that they went full on pozzed with it just drives the nail in even further.
Raise you hand if your Mario headcanon says that the book world from Mario and Luigi Paper Jam only contained everything from Sticker Star onward and that the first three Paper Mario games took place in the "real" world

Honestly i am a bit late in saying this (way late) but this mindset is what killed the Wii U. Nintendo won't ever get out of the mentality that their systems and games are for kids specifically despite being for every by technicality but 90 percent of people think their stuff is just kiddie shit. With games like Yoshi's Wooly World i can't imagine why lol.

They only did two yarn games, about five years apart, plus later 3DS ports of those two. That’s really not much.

On a side note, Kirby’s Epic Yarn has been in my backlog for a long-ass time. The music is really good from what I’ve heard.

but this mindset is what killed the Wii U.
Ass take.

No the reason why the WII U flopped this badly is because
  1. No advertising, and the few times it was even advertised it felt like it was an addon for the WII, not a standalone console
  2. Small library of exclusive games, also most of them are either ports or just what you'd essentially get on the WII (like New Super Mario Bros for the WII U)
  3. Nintendo were still running on shit hardware and that bit them in the ass cos no publisher cared about it. It was so bad it literally fucked a game to hell (Sonic Boom amiright?). The switch is also rustic crap, but guess that's not a problem for them RN.
Literally the opposite happened honestly. Because Nintendo advertises to normies, kids and old people alike it got many sales for the regular WII. The WII U got the short end of the stick because of the 3 points above tho.

With those games it was at least a third party doing it right from the beginning, and the Kirby game was especially just "We can't sell this concept unless we get a popular brand on it," and so they did. Yoshi was lucky though, he got two games dedicated to that and the gameplay stayed mostly faithful to what people wanted from a Yoshi game, with the second game (crafted world) only having an optional crutch rather than outright neutering the difficulty. I think it's a little easier than Woolly World was, but it wasn't the babygame territory of Kirby's Epic Yarn.

meh it do look better but I have the original game on gamecube and I remember it wasn't the best paper mario... too much backtracking and poor level design euuughhh
The backtracking is the thing they removed, but don't get it anyway.

these aren't incorrect but it is stating the obvious i was speaking about the mindset of Nintendo as a whole and the Wii U is an example of this mindset. Part of their advertising which failed is trying to get more third party support for their consoles which started with the Wii. It's not an Ass Takes you're stating what we already know about the Wii U's failure that i didn't have to explain for a reason.

Edit: maybe i should have said "part of the mindset" in my comment to clear up any further confusion.

The game does have some off-screen implied child molestation during that part.
It's a comedic scene where the dialogue sounds like molestation for those that know about it but it's then revealed to be tame shit Family friendly stuff used to/still technically sometimes does slip in gags like that.
Apperently I didn't hit send back when I wrote this lmao, oh well.

'No, it's CATHERINE!!!!!!!!!!!'
The original JP name for Birdo is the funniest fucking thing because it's like this weird creature and you'd think it'd be named like some wacky name like the other characters that look like that but it's just "catherine's the characters name but they'd really prefer being called cathy" Looking back at the OG english birdo bio you can tell they were trying to do a similar funny name thing but also still wanted to give the character a goofy name like every other mario character so the joke becomes the preferred name is some wacky stupid shit nobody's gonna call you like "birdetta"

I've had long term friends turn on me over me pointing this shit out this shit's getting worse all the time man. Mention shits changed in a way that's not even accurate to the JP version and then it spirals into claims of "transphobia "and "right wing extremist". I guess those many years of people knowing I fucking hate preachy censored shit suddenly don't matter because the clout thirst for good boy internet politics team points is just so fucking intoxicating to people that aren't me on a level I never even knew till now.

Late to this but I saw some Sonic tranny seething over Gamebanana allowing a mod that restores the original 2004 localization without any disclaimers, meanwhile his transgender Sonic mod has a massive warning above it.

I don't even know what this guy is mad about, the jannies closed the comments on his fetish mod to avoid people turning the comments section into a political minefield, it's almost like they want to keep discussions based on Sonic the Hedgehog, a VIDEO GAME, focused on the VIDEO GAME.

It's not enough for this freak to simply just gender swap Sonic and call it a day, he has to go out of his way to make sure everyone knows that this Sonic mod is his troon self insert.

Did a bit more digging and a little while back he got in hot water for making and favoriting porn of underaged Sonic characters, including Tails (8 years old) on his now-deleted porn account, as well as claiming that "bisexual lesbians" were a thing:

Trannies being trannies, as usual.

>"You retweeted and drew porn of underaged characters"
>"So have many other big creators, I really don't care man."

First, which big creators? I want names, tranny.
2. The Vivian restoration mod is not "transphobic" because Vivian was never trans to begin with
