Since when is having a movie get two nominations in a category allowed?
One Battle After Another wasn't the first, and it won't be the last. Other movies got multiple nominations for Best Supporting Actor:
  • Mutiny on the Bounty (1935): Clark Gable, Charles Laughton, and Franchot Tone
  • From Here to Eternity (1953): Frank Sinatra and Montgomery Clift
  • On the Waterfront (1954): Lee J. Cobb, Karl Malden, and Rod Steiger
  • The Godfather (1972): Al Pacino, James Caan, and Robert Duvall
  • The Godfather Part II (1974): Robert De Niro, Michael V. Gazzo, and Lee Strasberg
  • Ordinary People (1980): Timothy Hutton and Judd Hirsch
  • Platoon (1986): Tom Berenger and Willem Dafoe
  • Bugsy (1991): Harvey Keitel and Elliott Gould
  • Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017): Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson
  • The Irishman (2019): Al Pacino and Joe Pesci
  • Judas and the Black Messiah (2020): Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield
  • The Power of the Dog (2021): Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee
  • The Banshees of Inisherin (2022): Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan

If Elio/KPDH/Zootopia 2 wins in animation category I'm going to lose my fucking mind and have an generational crashout
If Demon Hunters can win a Golden Globe, an Oscar isn't entirely out of the picture.

Sorry in advance for the heart attack you'll have from reading this.

I've usually been a regular moviegoer, but I barely saw any this past year because it was just a really dry year. I did miss a couple I had intended on (Bugonia, Rental Family), which was my bad, but most weeks had pretty much nothing I actually wanted to see, so I just stayed home instead.

If there's something I watch even less of, it's whatever awards bait movies show up each year. Occasionally I'll see one, but it's pretty rare. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against something artsy fartsy, but most of the time, movies that Hollywood considers great are ones I don't care about, especially if they're all heavy-handed with political messaging, which is nearly all of them.

Hell, half of the Best Picture nominees I haven't even heard of, and of the rest, I only saw two: F1 and Sinners. Of those, my personal pick would be F1 because it was simply a good time, the kind of movie you want to go to the theater to see. Sinners was okay, and the "racism bad" angle was easy enough for me to ignore in favor of focusing on the vampire killing, but I don't really have a desire to see it again, whereas I'd happily rewatch F1 anytime. It won't win, obviously, but who cares? It's an industry awards show that doesn't really mean anything, especially with regards to the quality of a film. Plenty of Best Picture winners have been completely forgotten over the years, while others that were snubbed have become regarded as classics.
Demon Hunter is gonna win because voters will recognize the name from all the toys and merch their children or child slaves asked them for. That's enough for them to vote it.
I think KPDH is the most likely animated feature winner, though they might throw a curveball and have one of the two French movies win in a repeat of Flow's surprise win from last year. It's no secret the Academy hasn't had the best track record with taking animation seriously, usually chucking the Oscar at whatever Disney churned out that year regardless of how good it was in comparison to the other nominees. But in recent years, they seem to have been putting a little more thought into the winners, and Disney's been snubbed for three years in a row now. And frankly, I don't think Elio or Zootopia 2 are likely to break that streak.

And honestly, I don't really care who wins, as long as Disney loses. If they're gonna choose to keep churning out crap, they shouldn't be praised for it.

Ludwig Göransson is being astroturfed to us so much. If he wins, this would be his third Oscar in under a decade. He’s not even that good of a composer.

His score for Sinners was mediocre, at best, but that may be enough for the Academy. The true winner should be Johnny Greenwood, whose score is much better than Göransson's, and because Daniel Lopatin was snubbed.

With the tone of the thread, I'm almost embarrassed to admit I make an effort every year to try to watch all the nominees (including the shorts) since I'm a big film fan and the awards season helps pass the time during the boring post-holiday winter months. Yes, people still watch these, a small resurgence even due to the rise of popularity in A24 and Letterboxd among the under-40 set, so the Twitter slapfights have been rampant. And at the end of the day, it nets me free pocket change when I win the Oscar pool against coworkers who see one movie a year.

Nevertheless, not an exciting year for me. BP is a toss up between OBAA and Sinners, and I loathed both. I did like Marty Supreme (disgusting Jewish antics of its director notwithstanding), Bugonia, and Frankenstein, so kudos to those for getting nominations. And glad to see the Wicked sequel get shut out after being a sheer nuisance.

This is also the angriest year for a documentary short, lmao. Pick your poison for what the libs in Hollywood will go craziest over:

- Fuck Russia
- Fuck Israel
- Fuck Republicans (abortion version)
- Fuck Republicans (gun control version)
- Fuck Republicans (prison version)*

* Likeliest winner due to it coming from The Jinx's team

This is hilarious. Can we just make sure the guy with tourettes doesn't attend in person?
Fuck no! I'm all for equal opportunity, we should start mandatory swimming lessons for paraplegics and we should have legally blind air traffic controllers.

It is good to see Verbal Diversity on full display at the BAFTAs, truly this is a bold stand for freedom of expression and a win for multiculturalism! Glad to see people with Tourettes living their best lives! :)

The guy had a movie about his life up for awards, would be a bad look if he wasn't invited. I Swear is a pretty good movie if anyone cares.

Do wonder if they warned the hosts this could happen. Mean the dude when getting a MBE said "Fuck the Queen" to the Queen

Guy with Tourette's screams nigger in a room full of black people and they ask for "understanding",
I yell nigger in a room full of black people and I get beat up. Am I not worth understanding too?
