One Battle After Another has 12 nominations. No surprise its gonna be a sweep because Hollywood is a commie shitheap.
We thought the same about that one Scorsese movie and nothing happened. I think it won't zero awards.

What a lame collection of mostly trash.
Indeed. Most of these movies are forgettable once the hype is over. Movies that were nominated before 2010s are still talked about.

I know award shows have been devolving more and more into far-left political grandstanding over the past year, but wow, they're not even trying to hide it anymore. The "racism bad" movie got a record-breaking 16 nominations, while the "kill all fascists" movie is tied for third most-nominated in history, along with such wonderful films like Emilia Peréz. Considering the Golden Globes handed out award after award to the aforementioned "kill all fascists" movie, including Best Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Musical or Comedy, it's probably going to win big.

And then of course there's the Best International Feature Film category where they nominated a bunch of Middle Eastern films, because Hollywood still can't get over their "#FreePalestine" virtue-signaling, even though many of them are the very people that Palestine wants dead. They didn't even nominate the critically-acclaimed Kokuho, which was relegated to a mere Best Makeup and Hairstyling nomination.

The only consolation for me is that KPop Demon Hunters is likely going to beat out Elio and Zootopia 2 for Best Animated Feature. As someone who can't stand modern Disney and actually really likes KPop Demon Hunters (suck my ass, it's better than a lot of other animated movies released in the past few years), that's something I can at least take solace in.

One Battle After Another especially is one of the worst movies of this decade, it should get Razzies but PTA is a Hollywood arthouse darling (even though his last decent movie was in 2014) so he gets nominations just because
What the fuck Paul Tomas Anderson make that? Now I think it's garenteed an Oscar as a career consultation prize like how Leo got one for the revenant instead of one of his actual good movies.

I haven't watched One Battle After Another and thought all the /tv/ discourse about it were shitposts, but then I found this scene on youtube(excuse the shitty portrait zoomer subs) and that a character was indeed named "junglepussy"

International Feature Film: Secret Agent (because it's the only one that's also nominated for Best Picture)
Sentimental Value is also up for Best Picture. It has nine nominations overall which is huge for a Norwegian dramedy, but it’s about actors so Hollywood loves it. It will win International Feature.

The glazing of Sinners is laughable but not surprising. There are a lot of white millennial and Gen X dudes raised on hip hop and NBA that immediately equate black pop culture with coolness, elevating even the most trite mediocrity to “art”, Sinners being a perfect example. Plenty of films get double digit nominations and go on to win nada or just a couple— Emilia Perez, Killers of the Flower Moon, The Irishman, American Hustle, etc.

Because it’s a political satire that seemingly celebrates fash bashing, One Battle will clean up because the people voting for these awards will still think it’s more important to flex their feeble political muscles than celebrate From Dusk til Dawn (but make it Black (tm).

Sinners will get screenplay, cinematography and score. One Battle will get picture, director, adapted screenplay, supporting actress. Chalamet, Buckley, and Skarsgard will get the rest of the acting awards.

people forget that the movie was based on a Thomas Pynchon novel.

I wouldn't be surprised if this thing sweeps.

EMILIA PEREZ got 13 nominations and only won two. SINNERS will only get "Best Score."

The only Oscar SENTIMENTAL VALUE will probably win is Best Supporting Actor for Stellan Skarsgård. He was the best part of the movie, and his only competition is Sean Penn for ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER.

Best International Feature will either go to IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT because the director is Iranian and he was "brave" to make it or THE VOICE OF HIND RAJAB because, simply, Gaza.

I thought movies had to have a cinema release to be an Oscar nomination. Did Frankenstein actually go to cinemas? I thought it was a Netflix thing.
Netflix owns a couple of movie theaters, one in NYC, one in LA, expressly for the purpose of qualifying movies for the Oscars. Frankenstein actually got a semi-wide release back in October (including IMAX) and actually was rereleased to theaters last weekend.

I haven't watched Sinners because I've heard all I needed to about it. Why is the topic of racism so forced? What do the people who make this slop think it will accomplish making a "kill whitey" movie? It's not going to breed unity, it's only going to make people more racist. If I sit down and watch something like Sinners or Spike Lee cope that demonizes me and tells me the best thing that could happen to me is that I die, its just going to piss me off and make me stay as far away from you as I can. At this point I think that's the real intention. I can't watch anything with black stars anymore because I know they're not there on merit but they're there to spite whites.

It's a thing in pro wrestling right now as well. Every major company is pushing black stars like never before. None of them have any real charisma outside of dreadlocks and trap music entrances but because pop culture is rewarding blacks for just existing, they're becoming more and more prominent.

Is there anywhere in the world this doesn't exist? I'm beyond fatigued and willing to learn a new language at this point.

People just NOW realizing the Oscars are just an industry trade award with a much importance as The Best New Plumber award at the Plumber Convention?

Saving Private Ryan, a movie people still praise and watch regularity to this day, lost to Shakespeare in Love, which was pushed through by the Weinstein brothers using lots of academy wining and dining.

That was my personal first red flag.

I didn't really care until I saw Uncut Gems get completely ignored.

Then The Lighthouse.

This year it's The Life of Chuck

Academy members don't watch movies, and honestly I don't get worked up about it anymore. It's a marketing tool to sell more movies. It's also not without its use... It's nice to have a list of movies that might be good and you may not have heard of before. But the winning movie or person really means nothing.

All that said 2025 was a fucking banger for great original movies:

Bugonia
Hamnet
Marty Supreme
Sentimental Value
Train Dreams
The Life of Chuck
If I had legs I'd kick you
Eddington
Weapons
Warfare
A House of Dynamite
The Materialists
Wake Up Dead Man
Bring Her Back
Black Bag
It was Just an Accident

Note: I'm a grown ass man who believes men should only cry when their dog dies. Train Dreams had me all weepy and shit. Good lord it pissed me off how emotional it made me
