I think there's a divide between "uses a tool like a tool" and "AI will do everything for me" people. Using AI as a tool or joke uses electricity, sure, but nowhere near as much electricity as a million morons asking "GROK IS THIS TRUE??"
People who fear AI electricity usage are thinking from one end of the spectrum, if every human started using AI daily it would increase electricity use quite a bit, but AI isn't there yet for people to rely on it day to day. On the other hand, if I jump into Craiyon and ask it to make me some slop or another for a throwaway joke with friends but only do that once a month, it's less of a problem.
Probably the biggest argument against AI is the training cost since it uses a lot of data and electricity to train, but that's an initial cost that's already wasted, so why not benefit from that "wasted" electricity and at least have it spit out something funny?
