So if Zoan fruits have a will of their own and Luffy ate his as kid. How much of the fruits will was exerted on Luffy over the years? Is Luffy even Luffy or was it the fruit the whole time?

Welcome to why that is the literal worst thing Oda has ever done and we can only hope he knoes exactly what he’s doing.

Because we lnow Luffy became happier after eating the fruit. We slso know he declared he wanted to be Pirate King after eating it. And his secret dream, well he told that to Sabo and Ace after eating the Fruit too.

So real Luffy may have ‘died’ halfway through Romance Dawn.

I have an exact answer for this.

Whenever Luffy acts outrageously stupid even for him because it is funny.

I doubt that Nika would subsume someone's will because He is a God of Freedom..unless it is to just slightly Nudge Luffy for something really fucking hilarious. The Fruit didn't choose Luffy because Luffy is "destined" The Fruit Choose Luffy because Luffy is already a good fit for Nika's personality and goals.

We also know that Luffy wanted to be a pirate before he ate the Fruit and that he was dumb enough to think stabbing himself in the eye would get Shanks to take him along. If Nika could and would straight up subsume a personality in the way you suggest then it would have let someone eat it long before Luffy came around.

You’d think but we also know certain stuff has been heavily foretold. So it might literally have just gone ‘not time yet’

It’s why Oda will probably address fate vs freedom at some point and use Luffy to do it in all regards.

I’m convinced the Fruit, Joy Boy and probably Imu are playing a much bigger game than we yet realise.

It would be ridiculous for the freedom god to enslave the will of another. My take would be that Nika's fruit "enhanced" Luffy's own will, making his own desires clearer.
 
Zoan users become more beast-like/bloodlust over time if they're not strong enough to overcome it. It's probably the same for Human-Human Fruits, but we haven't exactly seen that happen unless the equivalent for them is developing a huge god complex. Luffy is an idiot, but he has such a strong will that he may not be affected by such a side-effect. Though I thought Luffy made a comment about how much more different he's felt since awakening Gear 5, so there could be something going on, but he's just rolling with it.

Given that my contention is that Laugh Tale contains something that will let the owner take over The World I am not sure how much bigger of a game you can have than that :P

I agree that we will get a Fate vs Freedom theme eventually, but I think Nika's will jumped at Luffy because Luffy isn't the destined one, but he shares Nika's general set of principles. I 100% Think Ace was the chosen one, Roger directly stated that he wanted His son to go to Raftel and claim the One Piece so something had to indicate to him that Ace could have done whatever Luffy is going to do.

I think Oden's journal and Toki's prophecy is referring to the fact that Roger intended for his Son to take the mantle of Pirate King, and Roger setting up the Age of Piracy to make everyone head to Laugh Tale.

Like this moment here, I think Nika nudged luffy to take the exact pose..that would cause him to break the Log Pose.

I think part of this is Luffy having a bit of subtle character development during Wano.

"Hero?! No way! We're Pirates! I love heroes, but I don't wanna be one! Do you even know what a hero is? Let's say there's a bunch of meat!. Pirates have feasts and eat meat, but heroes give the meat to other people! I want to eat the meat!"

Famous Luffy quote during Fishman Island. Now I always felt that this was very subtlety great indication of Luffy's character as a hero. Sure Luffy can have a selfish streak occasionally, but how often does the "Feast" involve civilians and allies that Luffy saved along the arc.

Fast Forewards to Wano.

Luffy meets a Village of people who are starving, who have barely had anything to eat in his life and what does he do? He steals a massive amount of food and instead of eating it all himself he shares it with the Village..and promises Tama that he will make Wano a place where She can eat every day.

Wano was Luffy embracing his place in the world as a Hero,even if it was subconscious that should cause something of a permanent shift.

But he still bit Kaido which means despite being a crying ballbaby he still has nads of steel.

I mean, it already fundementaly changed Luffy. After forcing itself to be eaten.

As it is, you now have the Fruit subtly controlling things to give maximum freedom to itself and its friends and it can go everywhere and anywhere it wants.

And Imu that is subtly controlling everything to give maximum freedom to itself and it’s friends and yet Imu is stuck.

It’s an interesting parallel.

Saturn being some sort of an earth spider (tsuchigumo) is clearly an interesting decision which I love and can't help but wonder if other Elders are gonna be based on youkais that share the same elements as their planet names. I've seen it being discussed on JP side of the internet, so I thought it might be interesting to share it.

What you need to know is that some planets in Japanese language use the elements of water, gold, fire, earth and wood. The Five Elders share these elements:

Saturn -> 土星 -> Ushi-oni (or Tsuchigumo (土蜘蛛)) (Earth)

Possible suggestions that have the related kanjis:

Ju Peter -> Jupiter -> 木星 -> Kodama (木霊) (Wood)
V. Nusjuro -> Venus -> 金星 -> Nio/Kongourishiki (金剛力士) (Gold)
Warcury -> Mercury -> 水星 -> Umibouzu (海坊主) (Water)
Marcus Mars -> 火星 -> Three-legged crow (三足烏) (doesn't have any 火 in its name, but is always representing the Sun) (Fire)

My 2 cents is that I feel like Imu resembles Umibouzu the most, meanwhile Warcury's mammoth-like features are supposed to represent something like Baku if we're still leaning into Japanese mythology.

That YouTuber 3Viii might be very right on the money. He says the Blackbeard Pirates might end up murdering Saturn because Saturn is an Earth Yokai. And that tracks with mythology that can be connected to Blackbeard

Likely. I’d assume they might also be from different parts in Japan, corresponding to a different sea in the OP World.

36:18 for the Zeha-Zeha Theory

While talking about it he brings up how the Zeha beat an earthquake yokai, refering to Whitebeard but considering Saturn is an Earth Yokai and Blackbeard Pirates are coming to Egg Head…the lore might be more right than he realised at the time. Because of course we did not know what Saturn was at the time.

So given that The Elder Stars might be Demons of some manner, I wonder if perhaps Tot-Musica might actually be an Oni of Some sort.
