I think the reason why Luffy's fruit is a bit of an odder one is it doesn't stem from one particular desire but more an overall wish for freedom. It's a devil fruit that has a more loosely defined objective.

In contrast Blackbeard's might be a fruit whose desire is to crush the desires of others, hence why it's both vulnerable to devil fruits and strong against them. It has to be a fruit that is willing to take everything from others so damage is exaggerated but in turn it can therefore nullify at the same time.

Of course it's worth noting that even Vegapunk admits that this whole thing is just a theory.

I'm probably spoiling myself while missing huge chunks of the story but if it's desires, then what about Buggy? He didn't want to eat the fruit, he wanted to steal it as part of his treasure-hunting adventures.

Later on, he'd use the Chop-Chop Fruit for combat purposes, even when saving his own crew.

I'm really feeling that major accident that the grand fleet is going to cause could happen in this arc. We haven't seen any members yet but if we do then it will happen here.
 
The Seraphim are sentient but are programmed to follow orders. Calling it now. Kuma is gonna die and Jewelry Bonny gets to walk away with chibi Kuma.

Garp appearing now to go against anyone, let alone Blackbeard, couldn't telegraph a harder death flag.

After all, Luffy hasn't really been all that motivated to actively go after Blackbeard at all despite all he has done and killing the closest thing he has to a father would be the necessary kick in the pants for him (and the plot).

"Closest thing he has to a father" doesn't so much apply to Luffy as it does to Kobe. If Garp does die (big "if"), I think it will be more to motivate Kobe than to motivate Luffy.

I'm not ready for Garp to die yet, Garp-bros. That blow would feel more right at home with the war for Laugh Tale, although Blackbeard being stationed at God Valley would suggest it.

I dunno, maybe I'm still losing my shit because Kid won the lot to go to Elbaf over Luffy. That fucking cocktease.
 
Kid getting to Elbaf before Luffy might be a sign the crew are going to meet him there so he gets an island arc as Law did. However even with Vegapunk along I can't see Luffy willing looking at the metaplot unless it's how to get to One Piece so it might be Elbaf and the books are skipped till Kid can force them down Luffy's throat at a later date while screaming "read, damnit."

Speaking of Law if Garp doesn't go down he might be the rescue Law would very much need. If Garp can retrieve him and Vivi while getting Coby it puts them in the Marine's hands but that's likely a better outcome.
