It's a really awkward reveal, there are a lot of thematic things that are in it's favor but Luffy being a Zoan user, Possibly being influenced by the Fruit's spirit, and the cartoonish way he was beating on Kaido, with the reveal of Nika's existence being in this arc all kind of mix together to make me not know how to really feel

It really does rely on how subsequent chapters go. A change this fundamental, especially one where a good chunk of the setup was so recent, really needs to receive a bunch of thematic support to bring it in line with how the initial story element stood. The issue is the original element had twenty years of backing and development and so now Oda is going to have to pull out most of the stops to ensure this change is just as entertaining as the original had been while also not completely shooting his load with how much story actually seems to remain.
