The Senor Pink/Russian stuff was simple efficient and delivered like a knife in the neck. I don't dislike it and appreciate Oda adding depth to a character whose appearance was a walking joke but it was such an absolute whiplash that I don't think I'll ever trust any character to be pure comedy again.

Quite frankly, I think it worked so well because his appearance was a walking joke.

The "Look at this sort of minor character, SEE HOW GOOFY HE IS?" is something Oda has done quite a few times through the series. Like in Water 7 with Cipher Pol being generally goofy as hell before the reveal.

So he sets up Senior Pink as a complete joke character..then puts him up against Franky for the most absurd fight that one could possibly think of because Franky is kind of a joke character himself. So while we are watching "THE MANLIEST FIGHT EVER!"...he cold cocks us with the fact that Senior Pink's attire..makes complete sense..and he is infact VERY HARD BOILED. How that fight and reveal went down is probably a top 5 moment in the series from a pure "this is how you should construct a story" perspective.

You know, for the most part, my criticism of Rocinante is just me trolling. However, there was this one moment that did, genuinely make me feel bad for Doflamingo.

Doffy took a good notice at Laws jacket… and it just set him off the deep end… “Your Jacket says “Corazon” and did you really think I didn’t notice your crew is “Heart Pirates?” I offered you the title of Heart Seat, you declined BUT TOOK IT ANYWAY??”

Man, this guy is really screwed loose. I can’t wait for Luffy to finish him.

There's a frankly amazing number of images where you can clearly see Law regrets ever associating himself with Luffy. Not to the degree that he is unhappy about the outcome but you can imagine him blackout drunk in the future crying on Kid's shoulder, "You'd have helped me murder Donflamingo if I'd asked you right? And you'd have done it without shitting years of plans all over the wall while calling yourself Lucy and disguising yourself with a fake beard?"

Law likes Luffy. Law hates working with Luffy.

I started reading One piece some days ago, I am on chapter 103 and I am enjoying it quite a bit, the beginning is a bit boring imo, but once the restaurant arc starts it gets much better.

East Blue Saga is some of Oda's best work IMO. Very memorable side characters, villains that you love to hate, and great storylines that do a great job at setting up the new (at the time) crew members. It helps that their backstories are sad as fuck, Usopp's arc still makes me tear up everytime I read it. Its simple but very effective storytelling.

I'd say overall OP is a 9-10/10 for me up until they get to Thriller Bark (the one with the zombies), thats when the quality starts to dip a little.
