Oh boy. Alright then, let's see.

Gol D. Rodger while the costume is right looks amazingly generic. He should have enough charisma to move mountains. Maybe he'll play out better in full.
Looks like Garp at the execution unless it's meant to be Smoker at Luffy's near miss at the same location? If it's Smoker that's a big miss.
The Nami actress' expression is enraging me
Tagashi at 25 seconds in?
Luffy is not fucking Jack Sparrow. I don't think he said the word mutiny in over a thousand chapters. The seagull bit could work fine in the manga but the dialogue would be very different
*blatantly inspire by Pirates of the Caribbean tune starts raisng my blood pressure further*
Boats do look cool
Alvida looks okay but the mage nailed it by making her fully inhumanly sized. Sorry but she should have been a ludicrous costume or CGI.
Every line from the Nami actress sounds like a generic disinterested millennial
Mihawk's sword centred with presumably his hand on it, Zorro out of focus in the background in the pose best remembered from the original as "I'm about to get sliced up pretty damn badly."
Sheep Butler about to get carved by Captain Kuro
Buggy nooooooooooo
Sanji fighting Kuroobi what looks like inside a room
Incredibly pathetic attempt at doing Zorro and Sanji arguing. Low energy, zero physicality. Sad
Arlong park fight. Gone is the large water section, instead it looks like a kiddy pool. I even think there are water slides (1:36, red and blue at the right of the screen)
The saddest laugh I think from Usopp. He sounded like something cawing
ARLONG NO!
Nami is for some reason directly in the background in one scene with Arlong. and Luffy. Given the damage Luffy is meant to do in that fight to the surroundings that better not be during it
Mihawk looks okay
Sea King looks good
The rubber effects are bad but could be worse. However we are only seeing them for an instant
Foxxy looks like Elivs
PIRATES SPREAD DISEASE made me laugh
Coby isn't too bad
Luffy complaining he lacks a wanted poster is in character
TLDR: It bleeds Netflix so much it hurts
On a more positive note, the One Piece YouTube channel released a teaser video for Luffy reaching Gear Fifth in his fight with Kaido. The animation is going to be bonkers.

I needed that.
Am I the only one who thinks Netflix cut Johnny and Yosaku?
Probably. Don't think I saw casting for them and to be fair they kind of are cuttable. But I would not trust Oda not bring them back. Hell I don't trusty Oda not to bring back Chouchou.

If this isn't in the live action version they can go straight to hell.

Is the guy at 0:22 Garp?

They're putting Thriller Bark in the East Blue saga? Because that's what that red firework scene at 0:50 reminds me of.

Buggy looks like shit, as we knew from the first trailer.

> Sassy black woman Usopp at 1:42
Just fuck my shit up fam

Nami sounds like a bored teenager.

Arlong looks like shit, too.

Arlong Park and Baratie are apparently getting mushed together, Jesus swashbuckling Christ.

Luffy sounds like he is about to ask me to do the needful and send him US$ 500 in Google Play Store gift cards to pay a fine with the IRS. Brazilian/Romance language accents do not sound like that.

His Excellency Foxy exists in this world, so it's not a complete disaster.

Also, why did they turn my man Koby into a pooner? I know he is far from being the manliest of men before getting under Garp's wing, but he seriously looks like he could be on Twitter claiming to be a nonbinary genderqueer barista with pronouns in his bio.

The more I watch, the more I know this'll crash and burn. Oda had better cash that check before Netflix drops off a cliff.

Only thing about that trailer that doesn't make me want to die is the set design. Too bad it's wasted in the service of... this.

they kind of are cuttable.
Disagree. They're the ones who point out Nami stole Merry in the Baratie arc. Are they just going to have Usopp turn his head and notice Merry is missing now?

On a positive note, they got Luffy's crappy flag right. @darkhorse816 thinks Sanji's actor's hot, and my sister loves Nami's "You'll have to excuse them, they're idiots" line. They also seem to have the banter between Zoro and Sanji down. I don't think this will be great, but it's not going to be as bad as Cowboy Bebop was.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who noticed something off with Nami's actress. She's missing that mischievous gleam in her eye.

And on Johnny and Yosaku, if you have to cut stuff they're probably some of the easiest, but removing the more minor parts of One Piece makes it lose some of that epic feeling. One of the great things about early One Piece is that even though it's a relatively simple narrative there's so much hinting at a larger world that's very exciting and believable. In such a short adaptation it'd be hard to replicate that, even in a good one.

Johnny and Yosaku were also crucial in convincing the people of Cocoyasi to trust in the Straw Hats and stop their revolt, that they have it taken care of to avoid more casualties.

I just have to wonder if Oda's just putting on an act to take Netflix's money (when he really has no need for their money) or if he legit has faith in the adaptation as an overseer. They had to have run by things with him for him to sign off on stuff.

Or he saw it and said "Fucking retard Shonen Jump selling this to Retard Gaijin"

They were also the ones who seemed to know more about the bigger world, telling them about the 7 warlords and if I recall one went with Usop to get Nami while the other stated to help Luffy get to the island since it's obvious they are well traveled

Probably. A lot of their stuff can be given to other roles. It shouldn't but in an adaption like this it likely will.

If they cut them I give even money on Oda bringing them back in a plot relevant role in the manga in the next 6 months.

J and Y are totally coming back at least in the Final Battle, aside from Coby they are the first real "Multi Arc Friends" that the Crew had, they very likely been training hard the past 2 years..and as soon as the news of Kaido's defeat came down hey headed to the Grand line..to start gathering up allies of the Straw Hats so Luffy has an army worthy of the Man who will bring (The) Freedom (to eat as much as you want) to the world by Shattering Blackbeard and Imu's will.

I'm assuming it's the latter. Oda has had fuck you money for a while, and still works ~18 hours a day, 7 days a week, to publish weekly installments of a goofy rubber pirate's story. If it were a question of mere money, he could have pulled a "rocks fall, everyone dies" ages ago and retired to the Caribbean or something to enjoy the rest of his life in comfort; instead, he's breaking his back drawing and writing from dawn to almost dawn. If that doesn't show you his passion for his work, I don't know what will.

And, of course, there's always the possibility of Netflix showing him one thing and publishing another through the magic of editing and outright lies.

I think Oda is just cashing a check because some of these changes look to be stupid and not follow Oda's flow. Arlong and fishmen are at Baratie, to what, kidnap Nami? Yet Mihawk is still there, does he just show up just because instead of chasing Don Krieg he was hungry? That really fucks with the big realization that the Grand Line is a scary place with powerhouses who will fuck you up. If he's chasing Arlong that cuts into the whole idea of East Blue being defenseless because here's a big ass Warlord coming through. People have mentioned a lack of Johnny or Yosaku but what is really standing out to me is you have that famous Arlong Park scene that is filmed in someone's backyard pool area and Nami is there with the other 4, which screams a Netflix producer said "we can't have Nami cry and be sad and be saved by 4 men, so she's going to fight too! Give me my thickest dilator, assistant!"

Trey Parker and Matt Stone talk about a story needing "because of" instead of "and then." One Piece really flows because it's the Straw Hats fucking everything up that's already happening in these places. Yet here it will probably be "and then this arc, and then this arc."
