I'm Alberta born and bred, and despite us having the reputation as the rebellious misfit of confederation, I see socialism-lite out here out here because Edmonton and even Calgary has a growing population of them. As much as I despise Jason Kenney (who I believe ran as premier to bolster his CV for a future run as prime minister), I didn't forget how naive and utterly incompetent Rachel Notley was. Unfortunately, there are just enough left-wing nut jobs disaffected normies to put her back in. While I was initially skeptical of the idea of Alberta/western separatism, I increasingly seeing it as the saner choice as it's folly to tie our fates to central Canada and their short-sighted policies. Yeah, we'd be landlocked, but I wouldn't want to be around when Toronto/Vancouver's real estate bubble pops. Pierre Polilievre lays out precisely what is wrong with this country. We have the second/third largest oil reserves on the planet (and plenty of natural gas), yet we import O&G from abroad. We have the third-most amount of farmland per capita, but our bureaucracy and carbon taxes are strangling our farmers. We have plenty of land and timber, but housing prices are through the figurative roof. The hard fact is that our borderline-inbred Laurentian elites despise middle and working Canadians and seek to harm them in the name of saving the planet. They would sooner have us starve in the dark before we freeze to death as they import more people from aboard to satiate their white messiah complex.

So yeah, I am extremely disillusioned with this country. Say what you want about Stephen Harper, but at least he was able to govern like an adult and actually had the balls to tell Putin to stay out of Ukraine. Justin Trudeau is an inept man-child who LARPs as a native on foreign trips and cowers under his desk if he displeases Xi Jinping. There are many Canadians--mostly on the left--who only care about instant gratification. Justin only "achieved" his position because of his family name and tells his base sweet nothings to soothe their wounded egos over their long-standing envy of the United States. Canada is a country blessed with resources and great potential, but it is (ironically) held back by progressive policies designed to accomplish squat.

I just drove out across the country recently (from southern Ontario to BC). Everything from Sudbury to Medicine Hat seemed a lot more run-down and dilapidated than the last time I went through. Northern Ontario where I grew up was a shithole, and Manitoba was worse.

It blew me away how much Calgary had grown. Always loved Canmore. But everywhere I went, I noticed a lot more homeless set up than even southern Ontario. Kind of blew me away. I thought all the homeless tended to head for the coast or southern Ontario when it got cold, but everywhere was bad.

It didn't look like Indians had improved their lives at all in my lifetime, and there were pajeets everywhere, especially Manitoba and Saskatchewan. I didn't make it to Vancouver or Victoria, but from the sounds of things, Chinese capital has fucked them badly.

I was in Yellowknife a few years ago. They get tons of Chinese tourists there, so lots of places have signs in Chinese as well as English. Very weird.

Canada has completely changed in my lifetime.

well, you're not wrong about that. Manitoba and Saskatchewan particularly. However, BC has the most consistently NDP semi-majority which just keeps getting worse (because the Gulf Islands are full of goddamn hippies and then they spread and infected the water with their LSD-laced piss) and is closest to the problem, and I know a bunch of Island NDP kids went to the oilpatch.

The reason the Island in particular is NDP is all the union forestry/mill workers/teachers/government workers.
Can't disagree with any of that, though I can't imagine those NDP rig pigs had a great time fitting in at work in Northern Alberta.

Tell me about it. Especially Vancouver, though I haven't been there in at least a decade. Hell, my city isn't itself anymore (and hasn't been since that homeless shelter got put in, back in the 90s, but it's WAY worse now and that is unlikely to improve).

Victoria is now a shithole too. Literally. It's way worse than it used to be - the homeless shelter on Pandora just fucked everything up within a 6 block radius and then some. (I mean, it's technically not the shelter's fault, but it attracts problems). Used to go to the McDonalds on Pandora all the damn time. I'll probably never be able to set foot in it again. If you go to any gas station washroom in Victoria, the sharps disposal will be like 3/4 full to almost full at any given time, whereas even in my shitty town the sharps disposal usually holds steady around 1/4 full most of the time.

But seriously, IDK about the middle of Canada, but Western Canada (BC) has turned into Second California. Doesn't help that there's a sizable chunk of ex-Californians and other blue-voting "Democrats Abroad" in Victoria and Vancouver.

Dude, we weren't traitors. Technically, the "American" Patriots were. The only reason you guys won is because Britain couldn't fight the American insurrection aswell as wars and possible (though unlikey) invasions in and from Europe, aswell as wars all over the globe as was done in the seven years/French & Indian Wars.

United Empire Loyalist(s) descendant.
And?

The only way western separatism works is if the "Flyover States", the "Central South" (think Texas, etc.), the Prairies, Northwestern BC, the Territories, and Alaska all form a new country, which secures major waterways, and coastal access. The only way I'd include Michigan or Illinois is if we could ship the whole black population of both to a coastal enclave, and take in HK residents, so they bend their shipping hub expertise to revitalizing both.

They'd also maul the invasive Asian Carp population, although the local pets might also be at risk. Pros an cons, really.

Shared, all-gender washrooms the future for Burnaby schools: school district / https://archive.is/wip/o0AYM

Parkcrest Elementary was the first Burnaby school to get all universal washrooms for boys and girls to share, but it won’t be the last, according to the school district.

Not everyone is happy with all-gender washrooms installed at a Burnaby elementary school last year, but the school district says the concept is the bathroom of the future for local schools.

A $13-million seismic upgrade completed at Parkcrest Elementary School last school year did more than make the building safe against earthquakes.

During the renovations, the district did away with boys and girls bathrooms and replaced them with shared, universal facilities.

The NOW got a tour of the new bathrooms last week.

Instead of a door marked “boys” or “girls” there is now an open entrance way that leads to a space with banks of individual, locking cubicles on each side for everyone to use.

Unlike traditional stalls, the door and sides are longer, extending nearly up to the ceiling and down to the floor.

“These inclusive washrooms are very private,” school district secretary-treasurer Russell Horswill told the NOW in an emailed statement.

Each cubicle contains a toilet, a wastebasket and not much else.

Sinks and mirrors, instead of being inside the washroom, are now located in the hallway.

Concerns and questions

Bonnie Whitten, a retired Burnaby teacher with a grandchild in the district, contacted the NOW to voice her concern about the change.

“Schools are supposed to be safe and healthy, and I find it hard to believe that it will be safe and healthy for a six-year-old girl going into a washroom with a 12-year-old boy,” she said in an interview. “Not that I’m saying they’re bad, but it’s a toxic situation, and should not be happening.”

Whitten said she hadn’t seen the washroom herself but had spoken to someone who had.

The new washroom style sparked numerous comments from members of a Burnaby moms Facebook group recently as well.

The mom who put up the original post expressed the same concern as Whitten about younger children using the same washroom as older students of the opposite sex.

At Parkcrest, however, primary students (Grades 1 to 3) and intermediate students (Grade 4 to 7) have different bathrooms on different floors of the school, and kindergartners have their own facilities.

But the commenters on Facebook also brought up other concerns, some saying they would have been mortified at having to deal with their menstrual period in a shared washroom, for example.

Others didn’t see that as a problem, saying sheltering boys from period issues just perpetuates the conception that menstruation is shameful.

Among the comments were a number of unanswered questions about the new washrooms and the district’s plans other schools.

“Wouldn’t it have been nice if they included parents in this decision?” one mom said.

The way of the future

According to the district, the design at Parkcrest will be replicated at all new schools and large renovations.

The new Burnaby North Secondary School will have universal washrooms, for example, but there will also be some more traditional, gendered washrooms, according to the district.

Universal washrooms were also installed at Burnaby South Secondary this year, but that school still has male and female facilities available as well.

Horswill said parents who have questions should reach out to their school principal.

“When the renovations and additions to Parkcrest were complete, there were a couple of parents who didn’t know why we would change washroom styles,” he said. “The principal gave them a tour, so they could see for themselves how students’ privacy was protected and how gender-neutral washrooms support inclusivity. While you’ll see this style of washroom in restaurants, other businesses, and schools in other districts, it’s perfectly normal for people to have questions when there is a change to how something has always been done at their child’s school.”

Calls growing to switch 'home and native land' to 'home on native land'

The prime minister says he's not opposed to the idea of changing the lyrics of Canada's national anthem, but said rewrites will only come after consultation with Canadians.

Calls are growing to change the words "home and native land" to "home on native land" after singer Jully Black sang the latter while performing O Canada at the 2023 NBA all-star game. The Assembly of First Nations honoured Black in response to the lyrical tweak.

Bonnie Crombie, the mayor of Mississauga, a former Liberal MP and candidate for the Ontario Liberal leadership has endorsed changing the lyrics. Crombie presented a motion to Mississauga City Council that requested Ottawa make the change, which the council deferred.

When asked by CBC's Catherine Cullen about Jully Black's version of O Canada that contains the verse 'our home on native land,' Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he looks forward to discussing with Indigenous people on how the anthem 'could or might change.'

Trudeau said he's interested in Canadians' opinions on the matter.

"I look forward to talking with Indigenous Canadians about how they feel the anthem could or might change. I want to talk with a lot of Canadians," Trudeau said in a Canada Day interview with CBC's Catherine Cullen.

"It's not any government's anthem, it's Canadians' anthem."

O Canada officially became the country's anthem in 1980, 100 years after musician Calixa Lavallée first composed it. Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier wrote the French lyrics, which were the basis of several English versions of the song, including one by Robert Stanley Weir that later became the official version.

The government last altered the lyrics in 2018, when Parliament passed a bill to change "True patriot love in all thy sons command" to "True patriot love in all of us command."

But Trudeau did not commit to any specific lyrical changes on Saturday.

"I'm open to the changes that Canadians want to see," he said.

Cross-posting from the "Canada is a failed state" thread, apparently Canada's "attempted solution" to rising food costs, is to provide a one-time "grocery rebate".

(Archived)

They're obviously going to raise taxes to pay for those said rebates, thus negating the purpose of them to begin with. And the "rebates" themselves are miniscule.
Yes in Newfoundland last year the provincial Liberals gave everyone 500 dollars for some reason. Cost like 200 million dollars, which could have been better spent actually making services not suck enormous cock and fixing our 1970s Soviet Union quality roads. I am genuinely of the opinion that a majority of Canadians are actually retarded enough to believe that these one time payments accomplish something other than garnering voter favorability. Sure it boosts consumer spending to some degree in the extreme short-term but I can't really see how it's that big of a boon

Is this thread the right place to express my hatred for Sophie Trudeau?

Especially her performing and cringe worthy singing during the most inappropriate occasions.

Such as Martin Luther King tribute:

Or some press gallery event (starts at 4:00) where her cuck husband Justin joins her and then they dance

She comes from a very rich family, and was on the Quebec version of TMZ for a while. So she had like this limited celebrity status in Quebec. This was at the time they were trying to make them look like a power couple. She was gonna be Canada's Jackie Kennedy, except she's massively annoying, and is kind of a bitch to everyone.

On that note, you notice how you never see Trudeau and his family anymore? Probably has something to do with banging Nikki Ashton and now Melanie Joly.

I don't really know much about Canadian politics but they both come across as such phony idiots. Trudeau was in Poland last year and was fake crying when coming to see Ukrainian refugees and had a photographer with him who made sure to capture Justine's fake tears. Fucking actor.

Rumor is that she was middle bro Michel's girlfriend, then Michel died in a skiing accident, then suddenly Sophie and Justin were an item. Sus.
