There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

Unless the government forces them to report on what they want them to, I don't know how things are run over there but I often get the impression they have to ask each time an event happens whether to cover it or not.
The AP branch in Pyongyang is not there to perform any actual journalism as that would get everyone present executed. The purpose is so they can get photographs of North Korea and video footage of official events which can be distributed to their other bureaus.

US sports writer David Meeks has ripped into vice president Mike Pence for his Olympic snub, accusing him of soiling America’s reputation on the global stage.

Pence refused to stand when the unified Korean team walked out during the opening ceremony in PyeongChang in protest of the oppressive North Korean regime led by dictator Kim Jong-un.

Meeks said it was an “embarrassment” he didn’t stand because the delegation also contained athletes from South Korea, one of America’s strongest allies, and he was critical the moment was politicised in “petty” fashion.

“By declining to stand and recognise athletes of the Korean unified team as they walked together during the opening ceremony, Pence not only offended the host country, he sent a message that to the Trump administration, not even common courtesy matters more than childish politics,” Meeks wrote for USA Today.

“We all know North Korea is a dictatorship, but South Korea is among our strongest allies. Do they count? The people here are wonderful. Americans are respected and embraced in this country; it would seem a small gesture for a visiting vice president to return the same respect.

“America should always strive to set an example for others. Sometimes that means rising above pettiness, taking the high road of proper respect over mean-spirited grandstanding.”

Meeks also highlighted the irony of Pence staying seated in PyeongChang after he walked out of an NFL game last season because he was offended by protesting players who refused to stand for the national anthem.

“That he saw nothing hypocritical in his behaviour in South Korea only underscores how tone deaf this administration is in representing the United States abroad,” Meeks wrote.

North Korea's regime has killed countless people. But it's not so bad, because REPUBLICUNTS ARE THE REAL ENEMY!

I understand both sides - Pence not wanting to condone the Norks and also standing being respectful.
But 100% David Meeks does not. He's just a fat piece of progressive shit ; "FUCK DRUMPF" at all costs.

Also, Moon Jae-In is a retard. There will never be a unified Korea until the Kim's are gone. Fuck him for this pantomime.

Would anyone happen to have a point of reference as to how South Koreans are thinking about the Norks in the Olympics right now? I'm curious if it's different from what we see with Americans and our media.

Who's opinion do you want? MSM or guys shitposting on Ilbe?

Both would be pretty good I guess.

Ilbe is sort of a /pol like landscape, for the most part. The general consensus on there is that the Olympics have been turned into a parade of bullshit, asskissing the Nork's regime and was a waste of tax payers money.
A lot of conjecture about 7 O'clocks and how they must be loving it etc. Basically just a lot of "The media is playing into this" kind of thought.

On other platforms, in groups that talk about this kind of stuff, there's been conjecture for a while as to why the winter Olympics had to be held in PC (a few SK journalists I know seem to think it's just a bit odd how PC and PY sound alike - seed planting and all that) and how strange and coincidental all this North Korea blow up has been, the removal of Park Geun Hye (which was not as simple as it was reported in Western Media) leading up to it. People have a lot of theories about the state of play.

MSM is basically like this though...

Since the "removal" of Park, there's been lots of American educated demi-progressives rearing their head in South Korean media/politics. So you know.

So literally anything that Donald Trump ever does is subject to unbelievably stringent observation that far exceeds legitimate insanity that always leads back to him being accused of forcibly twisting the Constitution and U.S. Government to his will in the interests of turning the country into his own, brutalist dictatorship, but a legitimately brutal dictatorship is sung endless praises by our own mainstream media.

... I'm sorry, but how do you rationalize this double-think in your own head? This is a legitimate question for me, at this point. I honestly cannot fathom how these two, diametrically-opposed standards can exist inside of someone's brain. When fucking Buzzfeed has become the voice of reason during a news cycle, I am legitimately worried about the current state of our media outlets. Something has clearly gone immeasurably wrong.

Also, CNN's editorial standards are so unsurprisingly horrendous that the phrase, "Kim Jong Un's kitchen cabinet" made it past the editors. I'm curious to see how much further this needs to go and how much more bald-faced this propaganda needs to become before even the John Q. Public starts to say, "Hey, wait a minute..."

You know which news media is reporting fake news when they mix up Pyeongchang with a fucking Chinese themed restaurant chain found in the U.S.

Unfortunately when it comes to reporting on North Korea, Western media is woefully uninformed and never touch upon sensitive subjects like the prison camps, the famine and lack of food and clean water, poor economy and so forth. The best way I can explain it is that North Korea comes across as this bizarre country that pretty much is mentioned when they do another nuclear or weapons test.

There's still a good amount of documentaries out there on NK to get a good idea why we should hate them in the first place.

The Norks are fucking insane and will probably nuke the Olympics just for the hell of it.

Certainly would cut down on one aspect of the media's exceptionalism.

The next is North Korea hacking all the media outlets just for the hell of it.
