There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

Wheat beers are generally pretty good.

I wonder if it glows in the dark...

So literally anything that Donald Trump ever does is subject to unbelievably stringent observation that far exceeds legitimate insanity that always leads back to him being accused of forcibly twisting the Constitution and U.S. Government to his will in the interests of turning the country into his own, brutalist dictatorship, but a legitimately brutal dictatorship is sung endless praises by our own mainstream media.

... I'm sorry, but how do you rationalize this double-think in your own head? This is a legitimate question for me, at this point. I honestly cannot fathom how these two, diametrically-opposed standards can exist inside of someone's brain. When fucking Buzzfeed has become the voice of reason during a news cycle, I am legitimately worried about the current state of our media outlets. Something has clearly gone immeasurably wrong.

Also, CNN's editorial standards are so unsurprisingly horrendous that the phrase, "Kim Jong Un's kitchen cabinet" made it past the editors. I'm curious to see how much further this needs to go and how much more bald-faced this propaganda needs to become before even the John Q. Public starts to say, "Hey, wait a minute..."

Super-late Edit: Apparently "kitchen cabinet" is a legitimate, political expression and now I look like an idiot. Well played, CNN. Well played.

I've said it elsewhere before, and I'll say it here again- No wonder Trump hates companies like CNN. Their doublethink and hypocracy in praising a country with a literal dictator and bashing a country being run by an (admitedly foolish) entrepreneur and the Republican Party.

Kind of makes you wonder if CNN would be better off in North Korea. They'll probably claim Un's executions and prison camps are better than the wall because "Well at least it's not Trump."

May as well throw this on the garbage heap while we're at it. Apparently we're just going full-blown stupid, today. I'm at a loss with these people. I knew the Olympics were going to be a mess this year as soon as that ridiculous "racist coin-toss" fiasco kicked off, but watching all of America's media outlets openly praise a living dictatorship was not something I was expecting to occur.

iirc CNN is no stranger to kissing DPRK ass, they had a branch office in Pyongyang in the 90s, didn't they?

The real question is, do they still have it?

Because I doubt they'd have asskissed Un's daddy and granddaddy nearly as had as they do he and his sister. Then again, this is the first I've heard of that branch.

I came to this thread just to make sure I wasn't the only one baffled by the complete disregard for any concern about North Korea and instead this sickly sweet "Oooooh look at the pretty Norks. LOL THEY MADE MIKE PENCE MAD #savage". It was only a couple weeks ago that in the SOTU address that the President of the US told a story of a man who starved as a child, had sibling who chose to eat fucking dirt so that he could recover from losing his legs, and then proceeded to run across half of Asia on a pair of shitty crutches just to get the fuck out of there. And yet it seems everyone except the White House and conservative publications are all spell bound that a brutal dictator rolled out some women who can sing and dance and give the country a free pass. Go fuck yourselves, seriously.

As @Arse Biscuit said, the Olympics brings out the exceptional in the news world.

It's that for some reason, the announcement of North Korea taking part in this year's events are making them even more exceptional than usual. Must be all those dog dishes.

I think they left a while back, but I'm pretty sure AP currently has a branch there that does fuckall, like when that apartment building collapsed they didn't cover it since it wasn't official news.

As long as we're fawning over Kim Jong-un's sister, maybe CNN can run some puff pieces about Kim's fabulously gay brother who leads secret police raids and plays guitar.

Why would any idiotic liberal think Kim Jong Un's sister shares any sympathy with their hatred of Pence? Her country's reeducation camps brutalize and starve people before executing them. All Pence will do is shock your balls until you stop wanting to put them in Mr. T's mouth.

No idea. I'm a liberal and I think North Korea should be wiped out for any excuse or no excuse at all.

Unless the government forces them to report on what they want them to, I don't know how things are run over there but I often get the impression they have to ask each time an event happens whether to cover it or not.
