There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

Norks apparently just launched a new missile.

North Korea fired a ballistic missile in the direction of the Sea of Japan, according to the South Korean military, a local news agency reported.

Yonhap News Agency, which reported the missile launch, cited the South Korean military.

Bloomberg reported that the missile crashed into the sea.

"We confirm that we have detected a North Korean ballistic missile launch. The missile is still travelling towards the direction to the East Sea, as we are monitoring right now," a South Korean military official told NBC.

The East Sea is the name Koreans use for the Sea of Japan.

The missile was reportedly fired from South Pyongan Province early Wednesday local time. South Korea and the United States are analyzing the details of the launch, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff told Yonhap.

Earlier on Tuesday Reuters reported that U.S. government experts believed the regime was likely to launch a missile "within days."

Does anybody know what became of the missle? Usually they always say where it landed. Is it bad if it just disappeared?

I just found an article that gave its landing position. They are saying now the entire US is in their range. I don’t know how dependable wired.com is though.

Did they give any reasons for this? I mean Japan is a lot closer to NK than the US.

It's because Un wants to terroize the US. Hell, earlier this year, people were worried that Kimmy's missiles could hit anywhere except South America. That and the feud with Trump is why the tend to single out the US more than its neighbors.

In reality, I doubt those missiles could even make it pass their current landing points at the moment, no matter how many tests they make.

Never mind. I'm an autist and mistook "They" for the reporters, instead "they" the norks. I thought the reporters had some kind of insight to the missiles true range.

I dunno this one went higher than the international space station. Once a missle gets into space you can’t really shoot them down. Hopefully Fatty isn’t suicidal enough to attack.

Depends what his mental (and physical) condition is. One more test may end up actually hitting somewhere, whether accidental or purposeful, and then he's boned.

Though it'd probably be wise if countries tried to at least be prepared if that ever happened again. Hell, what if Kim actually hit the international space station next test? I'd fully expect the world to go apeshit over that.

Fatboy must be getting scared if he's lashing out like this. I guess he's running low on cheese and whiskey.

When are the Norks gonna hit someone already?

Thinking about it, I guess missing foreign countries could be a good plan if intentional. Be seen as a big threat while not quite doing enough to get your shit handed to you. They didn't think far ahead enough to the "What do we do once we are feared?" stage and migrated into the "Shit, no one is taking us seriously anymore!" stage.
I wonder if they'll do a blaze of glory type thing and nuke somewhere kinda big, or if they'll just continue to shit themselves and do nothing.

And the Norks have been blamed for WannaCry.

I highly doubt that DPRK could launch even a breezy malware attack against even a primary-school computer lab. Still, I guess it is possible as the initial reports on the ransom back in May said that it looked like the attack came from them. Personally, I think it might just be another 'reason' to take action against North Korea but I really don't know.
