There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

Nah I think Fatboy is shooting them over Hokkaido in an attempt to not only scare the Japs, but to cut down on the risk of accidental attack on a civilian settlement in the event of some kind of missile failure.
I don't see Kim as the kind of guy who'd discriminate between innocent people (aside from his fellow Norkies) and enemy. In fact, I feel the only reasons they haven't threatened to bomb Russia and China are:
- They still provide him oil (though there's really nothing stopping him from stealing it and attempting to bomb them anyway).
- Kim, and by extension North Korea, would be utterly annihilated by them.

Really, it'd be for the best if they started considering taking more than just diplomatic discussion and putting it on the table, like America, South Korea and Europe are doing.

Well the Chinese had those drills recently, and the Russians are apparently moving troops about, so they're probably being less open about it.

Apparently, it went over Hokkaido again. At least the non-hydrogen one.

Seriously, China and Russia need to reconsider their relationship with the Norks, and fast.

Can't speak to where the Russian government is in terms of their relationship with North Korea, but China's stated they aren't going to intervene with this missile business any further until the USA dismantles the THAAD missile defense system they're building in South Korea.

From their perspective, that's a threat to their safety no matter the state of North Korea. The current scenario works in their best interests and if Fatty is dumb enough to actually nuke somebody no one's going to be pressuring China to join in and defend him.

China can seriously get fucked at this point. They're the ones that made NK what it is today, and they don't want to do shit. I can't wait to see their shitshow of a nation crumble eventually.

That's about all they can do, China is great at kicking over smaller ant hill's but it's never fought a war of attrition it's lost (especially in modern times) China can knock NK over easily but it can't really keep NK if it wanted to - especially if it became an insurgency war, that sort of thing is hard enough to deal with if you've never had an organised resistance that's carried on for a long time before

If China takes the lead and they won't, (China is historically reactionary) they will move in for a year or so topple Kim and then prop up whoever they are able to be friends with to keep the buffer state.

People keep throwing the China idea out but their army is not geared for a prolonged conflict at all, hell they've never really built there own aircraft before just copied others, and there nay while big is a 3rd hand copy of other tech.

I've been hearing they're smuggling coal to Kim. but if @CWCissey is right, that might also just be a cover. Who knows? Russia seems to be much more secretive than the Norks this moment in time.

As for China, they need to suck it up and face the facts- THAAD shouldn't matter at this point. There's the high possibility that Kim could, and probably will if he's so inclined, threaten to level Bejing, Shanghai or any other Chinese city one of these days.

And it'll be no one else's fault but theirs' given how DPRK is supposed to be their problem, not the the rest of the world's.

Honestly, China should have known to prepare for this shit years ago, but didn't for whatever the fuck reason. And now that they have three countries to worry about (the US and its neighbors in India and North Korea), it should be more action, less reaction.

Doesn't even matter if all they do is try to "convince" Kim into discussions, no one should have to put up with China's lazy ass any longer.

fuck china. we could buy our shit elsewhere
Not going to happen. If we attack first, America will be fucked over, both physically and economically. No one wants that, not China, and certainly not the US.

Also, I have no idea how true this is (since this is The Express we're talking about), but apparently this shit is partially being fueled by Kimmy's autsimal obsession with Swiss Cheese:

Although it's funny to imagine WWIII being caused by 'roid rage, the Express are committed to the Niburu myth, and regularly bring up Maddie McCann and Princess Diana death conspiracies on slow news days.

Which is why I pointed out that I don't know if it's true or not.

Still, it is a funny, if not somewhat fearful, thought that WWIII would be caused by cheese.

THAAD scares china because it completely removes their nuclear deterrent, specially against a reunited Korea that would become a superpower within 20 years.

Most of the Chinese arsenal is 1970s level icbms while America and Russia just got brand new ones, it's gonna take a while for them to design, test and deploy new missiles with countermeasures to defeat THAAD.

Not really. They could easily overwhelm it by just firing 10 times more shit than they needed to. This kind of system is only good against pretty minor shit. It might even fail against a single missile.

Its presence is definitely a provocation, though, and we should move it out once the need for it is gone.

China can go fuck itself, though, if it thinks it can just refuse to rein in its little bitch proxy and have it gone.
