There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

Let it be backwards. The only expensive bits will be the new schools and services. Outside of that, just let them be.

South Korea rebuilding itself will be horrendous, but North Korea? Just let it be primitive and backwards. After the war, there will most likely be 2-3 million less North Koreans on the peninsula anyways. So just let the land and survivors be.

Forty years for appreciable difference. Only forty years for appreciable change. 20 years for the in-the-cradle children to be raised on something approaching a decent diet, again, 3 million less Norks to feed so the land can do an adequate job, while receiving a decent k-12 education. Then another twenty years for speckled bits of economic development here and there.

All of this going on while wealthy and well to do South Koreans buy up land here and there and develop it.

East Germany was so expensive to integrate *because* it had an actual economy and actual industrial concerns. It was like trying to kitbash a vehicle from a gas burning engine with an automatic 2x4 and a diesel with manual 4x4. Not to mention West Germany largely shutdown many industries, especially the Defense related ones, because West German compnaies didn't want the competition.

40 years for serious and notable improvement. Germany hasn't even had that long.

It was only just over 40 years ago when the Norks actually had it better.

Longer, NK is possibly one of the weirdest real counties in the whole of human history but they have only really be able to get away with it because the west didn't want to deal with them and China liked the buffer zone and then the USSR viewed them as the retarded sibling with the right idea that they couldnt do much with, after the fall of the USSR and they lost there money China was on the rize and NATO didn't really want to rock the boat not for NK but for China they just saw the USSR die a death and where hoping the opening up of China would be the same.

NK has prolonged it's self after the fall of the USSR by being just to difficult to take out and to geopolitically inconvienent to deal with after, thanks to China wanting a buffer zone between West and themselfs. What's also helped is the fact they are nearly always in a state of near humaniterian crisis, because depsite what people think governments like the USA, UK, SK, China and such dont want to see millions of people starve.

There is a great story from inside NK about how American grain bags where worn as a symbol of pride as backpacks, because during negotiations for grain during a drought they gave up a bunch of old poorly stored weapons an for X number of weapons they where to get 1 sack of grain, the NK negotiator said no give us 2 and NATO said yes not because they where so eager to get outdated ww2 rusty artilliray but they wanted to encouridge NK to play ball, but in NK it's told as a great victory as the yankies are desperate for weapons....

I think the Chineese have a plan for that, as Fatty 3 isn't popular amongst the old guard and they want a less troublesome NK but they also can't account for what would happen if they made sure he had an accident, they long ago lost controll of NK and they are working under a best guess scenario as they don't know what SK or the USA has planned they have ideas but the idea of Korea reunited isn't something they like the idea of so unless Fatty 3 becomes totally unmanageable and they are willing to push a major regional conflict if not outright WW3 at some point (and they are not) they will try there best to perform damage limitation.

Nobody does, not in the region or in the world thinks a stronger China is good for the region or the world. A strong china in it's current form is a really bad idea as they are trying to keep what they know but incorportate ideas that they can't really do without major changes, societly an politically mostly because they are still not OK with new ideas, I'll give you a example years ago there was a forum a simple forum to hook up small OEM's with hardware manufacuteres in China, not all business but mostly busienss it was hosteted in Australia, now the only rules where 1) don't be a dick, 2) Dont talke money or negotiate with each other publivally, 3) dont do anyhting that would trigger the censors, 4 have fun...

It worked really well for about 5 years and then for some reason over the period of a week or so the numbers of visitors started dropping off, it turns out a few of the user names of long term users where ropped into some "anti state language" investigations after a week or so the site numbers recoverd but my god the storys we where told where bad, One guy had a user name that was eseentially tranlated as Chips pick your luck, was arrested because the direct worse he used for his user name where supposedly anti state because people where using it as a eupahmisim for state corruption. If it wasn't for the fact his uncle was quite high up in the part and he had to prommise that he wouldnt use that name on the outside again he would have been in prison for a while, this dude was selling gaming machines the kinda thing you find in pubs world wide.
 
The humanitarian side of me really doesn't want to see the hardship that a population of what amounts to slaves would go through if North Korea became a parking lot and they had to rebuild everything.

The realpolitik side me thinks it would be best for us, South Korea, or even China to glass the place, kill off the lunatics running it, and eat the cost of rebuilding it.

Like @AnOminous, I too believe it would be appropriate if China had to shoulder the entire burden of rebuilding an entire society that they selfishly kept propped up only because it was politically easier to do even though they were always sitting on a bomb whose timer they weren't confident they could keep resetting indefinitely.

Like...no. There is no requirement for South Korea to feed, clothe and shelter all of North Korea. There is zero requirement for them to behave as cucked up as we have in our recent coin wars. They can, and very well might, and with Chinese approval, use Colonial Era tactics, and stack the corpses up by the millions until the tards up north stop it. And might very well shrug there shoulders, and say it isn't genocide, its suicide by stupidity/enemy military.

And its especially true if the North Koreans fight to the last as they very well might. And nobody but China is going to have the forces in theater to stop it. And they don't care. And this whole nonsense about how caring for the Norks is going to bankrupt nations...nonsense.


And if China does get involved? They have enough vacant capacity in those ghost cities they have built to swallow up the remainder of the Nork population and absorb them wholesale. They could transport the entire surviving population and dump them in a single region, and procede to give no shits. Congrats, South Korea now has new land. Whoopety doo.

The real damage is rebuilding and salvaging South Korea. That's the issue. Not North Korea.
 
Piss off the chink government enough and you'll end up found guilty of some capital offense and your organs will be harvested and sold off to the highest bidder.

North Korea has trillions in USD worth of untapped natural resources. The entire peninsula can be rebuilt multiple times over, and there would still be some left for us to take.

Honestly I really hope they don't nuke Pyongyang. There's a non-zero chance there's film prints of the Star Wars trilogy hiding there like how Nobody In Particular sent a copy of Metropolis to Argentina.

I don't see why we can't go the same route as with Japan: Nuke the shit out of them, force a Western constitution down their throats (with a section saying that they are never allowed to have a military or go to war), and become best friends.

Because Imperial Japan was only brainwashed by a personality cult for 20 years or so and Hirohito was willing to accept a transition from absolute to constitutional monarchy. North Korea has had a personality cult for almost 70 years and is far more isolated culturally. Threatened with nuclear Armageddon, Fatty would most likely just try to cause as much damage as possible on the way out and short of levelling the entire place nobody would accept it.
