a way that is more efficient and wouldn't melt your pc/console into an elephant foot chernobyl style
IMO this should be the very first thing that's looked into and fixed... Optimization of games, which also includes better quality control.

Second thing should be compression and game size because at the way things are going, you'll need 1TB or more just for like one or two games on your hard drive.

What's with all these grown men making a big dramatic declaration about whether or not they're buying a Switch 2. Nigga it's a $300 console (probably). That's "impulse purchase" territory. This isn't like buying a car or putting a down payment on a house.

I feel like people never leave the "I'm a child and can't afford game consoles" mindset even when they're adults with more disposable income than sense. You don't need to budget a year in advance to buy a fucking bing bing wahoo machine for kids.

current good models on the 2030s equivalent of a $20 raspberry pi and so games can do it without really running into performance limitations.
Raspberry Pis are underpowered compared to their competition these days. Some of the newest ODROIDs include NPUs onboard that can run some pretty impressive models without any external network connections. All offloaded from the CPU too, and the NPU supports most everything except CUDA.

As one kiwi farmer already said. I would love if Nintendo did release patches for their past Switch games with better performance for the Switch 2. But knowing Nintendo, they will most likely not since they are lazy and their loyal fans will eat up their shit (no matter how bad it stinks). Did anyone see Donkey Kong Country Returns HD? The game looks like shit on Switch. Its 60 dollars for an upscaled game from 14 years ago. Classic Nintendo! If they know ppl will still buy it why bother putting any effort at all?

If I'm wrong and Nintendo actually gives a shit and releases performance patches for most of their first party games. I will shove my head up my own ass.

Back when I still hated myself enough to regularly browse 4chan for leaks, I came across this "leak"... which turned out to be almost completely legit, with basically every single thing that it mentioned coming to reality soon after.
  • This DLC title is bang-on. Not a single word is out of place, everything is identical to the final product. Hexagons were also an enormous theme throughout it due to the DLC relating to Terapagos: a Pokémon with a hexagonal shell.
  • Version 1.20 did in fact include more clothes as a reward for prepurchasing Scarlet and Violet's DLC. This was announced alongside the DLC in the Pokémon Presents that came 4 days after this leak was posted.
  • The Pokémon being referred to here are Walking Wake and Iron Leaves, two Paradox Pokémon introduced (as full Pokémon instead of just red herring teaser images) in that same Presents. Their typings are identical to the leak, as are their Japanese names, with Esper simply being the Japanese name for the Psychic typing translated literally. 1737334871293.png 1737334937136.png 1737334956916.png
  • This "mystery Pokémon with a green mask" wasn't even hinted at before this post, and was revealed in the Presents the following week. This turned out to be Ogerpon.
  • "Special Terastal appearance" likely refers to the special properties Ogerpon's masks take on when Terastilized: they get larger and more elaborate, and are exclusive to Ogerpon.
  • Terapagos has been aforementioned. It is in fact a blue turtle, though the "large" bit is kind of debatable. Due to having three separate forms, the default of which is so small you can carry it in a handbag, that's the only debatably-true part of this entire leak.
And, finally, the leaker announces that there's a graphics patch that is supposed to release alongside the new Nintendo Switch models.

Now, he also mentions that this patch was supposed to release alongside the second portion of the DLC. That obviously did not happen, such a graphical patch still doesn't exist and there hasn't even been an announcement of one.

BUT, assuming that the Switch 2 has been having serious internal troubles and was in fact delayed to a later release date, there is every possible chance that this patch was planned for release in December 2023 (with what I assume was going to be the Switch 2's original release date) but got pushed forward due to the Switch 2 getting delayed while the second wave of DLC came out without it.

All this is to say: there is probably a nonzero chance of these kinds of patches actually existing for older games and there may be some hopium on the way. Mario Odyssey in 120FPS by December, trust.

Honestly, just giving a Switch 2 a 'boost mode' ala PS4 on PS5 would be enough for most things. Most first-party Nintendo games perform significantly better with a modest CPU overclock on a modded console and emulated Switch games perform even better still. I don't even think the games would need to be patched individually. Nintendo would just need to put a little bit of effort into the BC mode.

Of course, higher-res graphics packs would be nice for some games. The Switch Pokemon games have particularly low-quality textures that make them look awful.

Some things would need to be modded, like artificial limits set to avoid hitting hardware limits, like the maximum number of fused items in ToTK

I hope you don't make the mistake of walking in with 300 dollars and expecting to get a Switch 2 with that.

Some people live paycheck to paycheck and actually want their expensive new jump jump yell coin grab console to be a worthy purchase.

I feel like that’s mostly a problem with the change to open world modern Pokemon, like lets go pikachu/eevee and those areas of Sword/Shield that aren’t the infamous wild area look very sharp and clean

The thing is is that you’re able to detail and clean up more in confined areas like routes and gyms. Not to mention many of the people working on these games worked on the 3ds titles who specialized in the more linear style now had to make these barren wastelands with little experience prior and have no knowledge of adding fog to reduce visibility of renders. Another thing with textures is the repetition, large geographical structures like mountains and large spans of grass where they have these bland pre existing paint patterns and just paint the rocks grey and the grass green with the same texture over and over again
Even if it were upscaled it would’nt look too good given the ugly colors they used in the open wild areas lots of browns and greens mixed together

IMG_8731.jpegIMG_8733.jpegIMG_8732.jpeg

my solution get some people on the zelda botw team to work alongside gamefreak, and add more top down linear areas to break up the ugly way the towns look in open world. And add more fantasy landmarks so people aren’t just focusing on looking at brown dirt

Well, they had the occasional tower to break up the monotony... But what little that I've seen of Violet wasn't as inspiring as Zelda's take on the open-world genre: Nearly everything is arranged to the point where it's somewhat unique

Switch 2 - Bring back the virtual console and make old games to buy for a fair price. Switch online library has hardly anything on there after all these years and drip feeds a couple of games a year.

Also, make new games from your classic franchises. Starfox, Metroid, F-Zero, Waver Race, Diddy Kong Racing, Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong Country, Blast Corps, Punchout. We don't need another re-release of Donkey Kong Country returns or New Super Mario Bros. If the Switch 2 is going to just going to be a some what more powerful upgrade of the original, at least start making some new games for it.

The best part about Wii virtual console IMO was the non-Nintendo stuff that was available. I got into Ys via the Turbografx-16 release of Ys I and II on the Wii virtual console.

Maybe Sega will finally give us Saturn and Dreamcast virtual console games. The Switch 2 will definitely be more than powerful enough to emulate them.

I mean people are buying Steam Decks just to do retro gaming. If only Nintendo could put 2 and 2 together and think "Hmm, it appears people like playing retro games on a portable and modern hardware which can also be played on a TV when at home" and tap into some of their retro library they've been sitting on for nearly forty years.

that's crazy, there is no way nintendo will do this when they can just dripfeed them in a subscription service.
...oh gamecube and up? they can mzke way more on those by making them HD and just release them one by one af full priced games.

Not to mention Nintendo have already rereleased either as ports or remasters every game people actually want already.

The GBA Micro had a 3.5mm jack. Only the SP omitted it in lieu of a dongle.

GOOD. Bluetooth audio for videogames is a mistake because the lag problem is not solved, and the quality is still shit (no, LDAC and APT-X HD are not good enough, and even if they were, 90% of headphones don't support it because the manufacturers are cheap and that license costs money)
I see. I'm not sure why I thought Micro didn't have it.

What I would like is if Nintendo made a Switch Micro that is basically a smaller version of the Switch Lite that's like $100-150 USD.
Me too, I was hoping for that. Could still happen (an iteration of 2DS launched after Switch), but I doubt it very much.

Sorry you got a direct translation instead of the changes to the original Japanese version that you wanted.
You're just being a contrarian again, you know damn well it wasn't accurate in either localization, and that aside from Vivian there was even MORE changes in the demaster. The censorship was massive and far-reaching.

Oh don't worry, Microshit has you covered there :smug:

Perfect Dark went from featuring a spunky young tomboy to a middle-aged troon... I wonder if Rare would've still devolved into shit under Nintendo's leadership or not.
