I honestly liked the direct. I've made a list of what caught my eye under the spoilers:
- Seeing Mario & Luigi come back after the death of AlphaDream honestly tugged at my heartstrings, it may be at the end of the Switch's lifetime but it's better "late" than never. I'm slightly saddened that Mario's voice still sounds off and that Luigi's "fearful voice" sounds like he's only mildly perturbed but it's only Kevin Afghani's second game AFAIK. I also love that we're getting more original characters and enemies here compared to the dumpster fire . I'll get it when it comes out in November since I'm a sucker for the series and I know Yoko Shimomura will have a hand in the game's soundtrack.
- Nintendo World Championships NES Edition looks interesting but it's clearly designed for speedrunners, I would've liked it if the VS mode pitted people in real time but it uses ghost data. I'll skip it but I know some people will buy the special editions just to flip it.
- Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is honestly a nice thing to see, now all of the DKC titles are on one console and you don't have to carry around a 3DS. The fact that it's coming with with the 3DS levels intact is also a nice bonus. Now if only we got Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong 64, and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat on Switch too (The Konga titles would be too much trouble licensing-wise).
- Super Mario Party Jamboree is a bit bittersweet. It's nice that the IP is still going but I hate the fact that they're continuing the often-bundled-with-other-items-because-no-one-wants-it Super Mario Party formula rather than sticking to Mario Party Superstars', even more so when you factor in the two returning Mario Party boards to the mix. I do like the fact that we're getting more playable characters (I noticed that Ninji popped up in a couple of scenes) and that we're getting a Battle Royale mode.
- The Legend of Zelda: Echos of Wisdom looks interesting. I wasn't a fan of the art style when it was used in the Link's Awakening remake but I've warmed up to it since then.
- I'm not exactly a big Metroid fan but I'm happy to see that Prime 4 finally has a proper release date after being delayed. 2025 seems far-off but it's entirely possible that it could release on the first-half of the year.
I have a feeling that the game is still a work-in-progress but it being a third-party Switch game doesn't exactly inspire hope. But those GameCube graphics, thought.
Models looks disguting.
