Not sure about Wind Waker HD, but Twilight Princess HD seems like a lock if Midori's post is accurate. It'd be weird to release one and not the other, though.

Nintendo isn't trying to maximize your access to Zelda games, its trying to maximize its access to your wallet. That works better if they release only one of the games, and at full price, then do the other one at full price two years later after having extracted as much water as possible from your stones.

edit: And the "HD" Zeldas were Prime styled remakes, or at least WW was. It got an entirely new (worse) graphical style in addition to the very welcome sailing changes.

If it's a genuine remaster, I'll definitely buy it. I've been craving a real Zelda game ever since I forced myself to finish Tears of the Kingdom. If it's just the HD ported over to the Switch, that's what my Steam Deck is for.

Also, I bet they're waiting for the Switch 2.

You have your terms confused. What you want is a "remake", a "remaster" is just the old version ported over with the console brute-forcing any improvements (HD, less lag, etc.)

No they were not. They were the original games with re-done textures and very minor mesh improvements and in Wind Waker's case some new shader effects and shadows, still a remaster but not to the extent of Metroid Prime.

It's not a remake if the original game code is still there. Metroid Prime Remastered is still a remaster, it is a new coat of paint running on top of the original game code, the same as Shadow of the Colossus, Demon's Souls, Halo CE/2 Anniversary and all the Kex engine games from Nightdive, even OOT3d. A remake is a brand new game not using the existing code, made from scratch. It can still be extremely faithful and be a remake, such games include Mario RPG, Paper Mario TTYD, Star Fox 64 3d (they lost the source), and for not so faithful remakes, the Resident Evil Remakes.

Remasters are a very broad spectrum, which is why I like that nintendo is differentiating them with HD for upscaled and cleaned up ports, and remaster for full graphical overhauls.

Considering that I skipped the Wii U generation, I personally wouldn't mind Twilight Princess or Wind Waker remasters as I haven't played either in about 15 years...

Dear Lord, I feel old saying that.

Wind Waker is the only remake so far to add worthwhile content. And only if you found the original frustrating.

If you did not find Wind Waker to be frustrating, skip that remake as well.

It is really weird that Gamecube games aren't offered on Nintendo Switch Online's expansion or sold in the eshop for $20-30 if you think about it. Games like Double Dash, Wario World and Wind Waker are not readily available and most likely will not be in the immediate future. At this point they are older than all those games Nintendo released for virtual console on Wii were back in the Wii's heyday. It's like the back catalogue of old emulated games they offer froze in time in early 2001. I know they've offered some newer handheld games, but besides that, the newest retro console games on Nintendo Switch online are basically 25+ years old.

Easy: The Switch isn’t powerful enough to flawlessly emulate Gamecube games without a lot of work like with N64 games on Wii, and even though Nintendo could probably pull it off if they tried, why bother when fans will gladly pay $30-$60 for a single port?

I think Super Mario 3D Allstars used emulation, didn't it? They probably put a lot of work into it like N64 on Wii like you said, but again, I don't understand why they wouldn't just give a few high profile games the same treatment they game Sunshine and stick them up in the eshop for $20-30. Similarly, I don't understand the point of taking 3D Allstars out of the eshop. Nintendo has always been very weird about this sort of thing. Just compare them to Microsoft, who you bet your ass is willing to sell you Morrowind and Fable.

Nintendo in general is really fucking wierd with Virtual Console games. There are ALOT of stuff that was available on the 3DS that isn't (and probably won't be) on the switch. Some of them you'd think would be a no-brainer.

The GBA catalogue is the only one on NSO that is the same as what the 3DS offered, with the exception of Mario vs Donkey Kong, which they just finished remaking, and Wario Land 4

And this is only the first era of these remakes.

Just you wait. Be it marketing or the peoples' choice, eventually this remake market will be its own facet of the industry for companies with qualifying libraries.

Just wait until Death Stranding and Tears of the Kingdom and [Microsoft product] are no longer "good enough". That is going to be a trash fire.

They don't want you buying their games for 20-30 dollars, they want you paying 40-60. And they also know that those cube titles absolutely would compete with, and cannibalize sales from, their current generation titles.

I am paying $0 for them right now because most of them are not available.

I mean, if we're being real here, there is probably more profit in selling a copy Wind Waker bundled with a specialized Gamecube emulator for $30 than there is in selling a copy of a game made specifically for Switch. A lot of R&D goes into making a new game, with an old Gamecube game a lot of the work is already done. Nintendo is just weird about this shit and they always have been. Wii U could literally play Gamecube games natively and was suffering from software droughts and they still weren't in the Wii U eshop.

It's more that a good chunk of the Gamecube library is already available on the Switch, so dedicating resources on making an official Gamecube emulator may not be worth it. Even more so if third-parties prefer to also re-release their old games themselves (or in the contrary case, there is no way to contact them in order to publish on the emulator).
