"No Intro" does not refer to the intro cinematics of the games themselves. Back in the day, groups that used to release cracks and roms would often add little logos to the beginning of the rom or cracked game. So like, you might download game and when you fired it up, it would say, "Brought to you by Ice Devil's Hacking Collective. Find More Great Cracks on our BBS at (555) 555-5555." The no intro sets were just put together as collections of games and roms that were unchanged from the originals and didn't have those intro tags. Putting those little tags on PC games and roms is not common these days, but the "No Intro" collections are still considered the gold standard. All the roms on Vimm were pulled from No Intro sets, for example. The name is a bit of a holdover.

Back in the 90s, you would sometimes download a NES rom from a random geocities site, and when you loaded it into nesticle, something like the above would pop up before the title screen or sometimes it would even be integrated into the title screen, or written into something like the Mario 2 or Zelda story screens.

It’s not just every game, it’s every version of every game. That includes revisions, other regions, and betas where applicable. This also includes things like Virtual Console releases in the event that the rom is different. Ocarina of Time is an extreme example, but I counted at least 12 different roms for it, plus more if you count Master Quest. Getting just the USA roms would cut that down to less than half the size.

is that the 300gb collection from 2023 that has virtually every system that came out before the Wii? it looks good and am downloading rn

4th gen is when sizes started getting considerable. The entire 3rd gen console lineup is probably smaller than any one 4th gen system's library, and I imagine N64 is the smallest among them. PS1 is likely pretty sizeable.

Don't take it the wrong way, but if you are older than me, your posts make you come off a bit younger and this post specifically feels a little feels a little "How do you do, fellow gen xers." I would have had you pegged at around 30. Doesn't really matter at the end of the day, don't get me wrong, but I've seen you refer to being older than everyone else a few times and I don't know if you think everyone else on Kiwifarms is 25 or whatever.

It doesn't help that PSX had like, 1,000 releases. I find this a pretty good base to build off of for your PSX rom collection. Queue these up from Internet Archive in a download manager and add ones you want to try or your old favourites and you've got a pretty decent library.

K because you've quoted my posts and made reference to how much older you are than me in a couple of Nintendo related threads now, and while I don't want to power level too hard here, I am much older than 30.

I think most regular users in the off topic boards are in their 30s with a scattering of people in their 20s and 40s, just based on the frames of reference in terms of pop culture I see people using.

Oh yeah, some of those intro screens even had baked-in trainers (a cheat menu) too. I love that kinda thing.
