Did anyone honestly believe it wouldn’t be backwards compatible and 4K?

I’m a little surprised about handheld mode being 1080p though. I could definitely see them sticking with 720p for perfect scaling with undocked Switch 1 and, more importantly, better battery life. Or maybe Switch 1 games will play in docked 1080p mode on an undocked Switch 2?

With the performance improvements of the new chip I can see Switch games always running in "docked mode" on the Switch 2.

I didn't think it would be 4K. I mean fuck, is anything actually 4K yet? I know PS5 has it on the box but I didn't think any of the games were 4K.

why the hell should I have to buy yet another overpriced gadget. the new games should work on the old one. this is a scam.
You expect the PS3 to play PS4 games and the GameBoy to play DS games? Are you a summer child?

The Switch 1 chip is so massively underclocked that at full speed it can almost emulate itself in 4K. Not run, emulate.

If AYN was able to procure SD8 Gen2 chips to make a 300$ handheld, there's no reason Nintendo can't get reasonably powerful chips that make Switch 1 backcompat an afterthought, native or emulated.

Every console since PS4 Pro/Xbox One S has been 4K. A Raspberry Pi 4B from 2019 can push two 4K outputs simultaneously. Even the current Switch-

Oh, someone beat me to it. The point is, it obviously won’t play every game (or even most games) in 4K, but anyone who thought Nintendo would arbitrarily disable 4K output on the Switch 2 is insane.

That video is a fucking joke. Oh wow, if you kill your battery life and turn your Switch into an oven you can run 20 year old games with, by modern day standards, at 4K giving you no actual benefit but a moral victory. Color me unimpressed.

You completely missed the point. Explain why Nintendo would want to restrict the Switch 2 from outputting 4K when everything else from the last eight years, including its own predecessor, can do it.
