but even then I still contest that argument due to WarioWare and Rythm Heaven... hell, DeeDeeDee Drum Dash is fun as fuck
Both are good. In the case of WarioWare, it came far too late for most to even care. Still not sure why they waited till 2018 on that one.

3D >>>>>>>>>>>>> New. Both Land and World are pretty top notch in their gameplay and level design. The "NEW" series relied on the new power-ups each game offered so they built the levels around them... sorta. They're still pretty stale. The Gold Mario gimmic was the only new power-up I actually enjoyed. I could give two shits about the Helicopter/Penguin/Squirrel ones.
I actually really like World, Land is a bit bland, but neither is really exciting or eye catching like the other 3D Mario titles. Odyssey is a much bigger deal as the locals and creatures are unique, even if 3D World may have better gameplay.

Otherwise you need to spend some time in the ocean that is the 3rd party/indie games because there are PLENTY of hidden gems that deserve a second chance.
Was just going off Nintendo. I know 3DS is considered a wholly grail for RPG fans and that it houses many 2D platformers.

Why do these faggots have to be so retarded around Nintendo, why cant they just lay low and not try to profit off it?
I put the entire blame on yuzu devs and all the emulation users who were unable to keep emulation / piracy on the down low. Share it with your friends (or in the kiwifarms too) if you want but you should keep your mouth shut otherwise to avoid attention from corporations. But they ultimately reaped the consequences by spamming their epic emulator owns under broad daylight, through social media posts, articles, etc.

Edit: I doubt these people will learn how to be tactful though, eventually making things worse for everyone in the future.

I still can't imagine how Nintendo thinks they will be able to recreate roughly the same success with the Switch successor.
That's the open question. Then again, nobody thought Nintendo would ever see Wii like success again, and the Switch far surpassed the Wii in terms of popularity and sales, despite arguably being less revolutionary. Nintendo themselves may not be expecting the Switch 2 to outdo the original considering that its ultimately iterative, but if it can do at least as well as the Switch, that would be a success for Nintendo. Nintendo hasn't had two successful home consoles in a row since the NES and SNES.

Nintendo wanted yuzu gone and that is what they got.
The thing is, Yuzu isn't really "gone". The original project is being ended by the devs, but Yuzu, the actual emulator, is open source. Anyone can take the source code and continue to work on it, which is probably what will ultimately happen. A new Yuzu is inevitable.

The fact is, Nintendo hates emulation. Period. Yuzu were just the biggest target, but Nintendo can, and have, ultimately fucked with emulation in the past, and they will do so again.

You WILL pay $300+ to play our games on a decade old piece of tech

You WILL buy decade old games for more than at release (Skyward Sword)

You WILL buy the amiibo to unlock content on your games (Skyward Sword)

You WILL wait 5 years to get to use your bluetooth headphones.

You WILL use your phone for online game chat.

I don't really see how yuzu having a patreon was really legally problemaitic. For years long before even marijuana legalization people could sell bongs and shit completely in the open in a brick and mortor store without ever being shutdown.

Plus, isn't Patreon basically just "donations" and "tips"? Lots of Youtuber and streamers have a Patreon for just playing video games all day.

The argument was that because they released builds early through Patreon (not unlike a YouTuber releasing their videos a day early for backers), they were profiting off software that facilitated piracy of new games since naturally those Patreon builds could run those games better.

It's less a matter of legality and more a matter of drawing the Eye of Nintendo to themselves. Nintendo doesn't have to win a lawsuit to kill Yuzu - they just have to threaten the devs with crippling legal bills.

It sucks, but that's how civil law works more often than not.

Apples and Oranges

Not to defent YouTubers, but what they do is transformative, especially since not every gameplay experience is the same. They actually have a leg to stand on, but whether or not the law will actually side with them is a different story. It's why they also don't persue the strike most of the time because they don't want to gamble on a coin-flip on whether or not they will win.

Music/Movie companies are just as anal as vidya companies, anyone who knows about Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group will tell you they are the fucking worst.

BTW, Nintendo did try the whole "monitizing nintendo gameplays" on YouTube by forcing YouTubers to be a part of their club, but the downside was that their channel could ONLY be used for Nintendo games ONLY and nothing else. Last I remember, that didn't go so well, so it stopped.

Yeah I remember that, the so called "Nintendo Creators Program" which is why I brought that up.

That's precisely why I consider the two groups I quoted above to be the sole ones at fault as it's been a known fact for decades that Japanese game companies don't see user-end emulation from a good eye. The difference is that back then, it was common sense to stay low profile. But the current age of Internet, Patreon and social media proved to make these people dumber, prone to show off way too much and more short-sighted as a result.

I consider them to be more a threat to the emulation scene than Nintendo itself.

Update on the Yuzu/Citra situation:

Both Yuzu and Citra official websites have been nuked, this is the only thing that shows up now:

I feel like this will hurt switch emulation more than the 3ds as the latest version of Citra was already pretty good.

As someone who plays the majority of games I play on an emulator, I'm happy for this outcome. Yuzu are a bunch of fucking retards that were drawing a shit ton of unnecessary heat towards emulation as a whole by being the brazen morons they were, and them settling prevents this from having the possibility of changing legal precedent regarding emulation. I wouldn't be surprised if other emulation devs were pressuring them behind the scenes to settle, because yuzu could have taken all of emulation down with them. At this point, everyone with an iq above 30 realizes that nintendo is basically a wild animal, like a tiger. Big, dangerous, you don't know exactly what it's gonna do, but it's not entirely unpredictable either. It's one thing to be angry at a tiger for stalking and killing a person, it's another to be angry at a tiger that killed the village retard that poked it with a stick through the bars to rile it up and went inside its cage in a lady gaga suit of raw meat.

I don't understand why they had to also take down Citra, it wasn't even part of the lawsuit. Nevermind the fact the 3DS isn't even supported anymore. This isn't looking good for the emulation scene.
It was owned by the same LLC and likely included to lower the settlement.

Although with an LLC you'd think they'd just tank the settlement debt in bankruptcy.

I only logged on here because I saw this just an hour ago, and right now, I have mixed opinions.

I have a Valve Steam Deck and while I‘m admitting that I had yet to try NS emulation on there, it still can’t help but cause more concern. It’s just annoying to use the piracy excuse, as I was just thinking that if you don’t want pirates, then just make better games.

On the other hand, it just sucks that Citra was gone. I downloaded it on my Android phone, and I really wanted to see what it was like. Now, I’ll have to find different ways to emulate Switch games.

So after i wrote that happy to say used a different site to buy some games, lukie games. I got MK 5. Cheaper than what they wanted on ebay. And some awful looking Wii game called tournament of legends. #Content My friend keeps telling me marcari but i have yet to dive into that app. If anyone has any other suggestions for me that'd be great. Buying old fighting games to play for my channel.

I think the only reason Nintendo came after them was because they were taking money thru patrion. If money was not exchanged maybe Nintendo leaves them alone. Nothing wrong with being that guy behind the curtin, heard but not seen. It's like Palworld I'm convinced the minute Palworld sells official shirts with pals on them then Nintendo & Pokémon come after them. I don't emulate all 7 systems are still in working order. Powered up the SNES Saturday to run some tests.
But it's 2024 again, it's Nintendo, let's not be shocked by this.
