Whelp, there goes Switch emulation for the foreseeable future. Nintendo are probably lashing out because the Switch 2 is about to drop and they want people buying legacy titles on that instead of emulating them for free.

bunnei (main Yuzu developer) just made a statement in the Discord server:

Hello yuz-ers and Citra fans:

We write today to inform you that yuzu and yuzu’s support of Citra are being discontinued, effective immediately.

yuzu and its team have always been against piracy. We started the projects in good faith, out of passion for Nintendo and its consoles and games, and were not intending to cause harm. But we see now that because our projects can circumvent Nintendo’s technological protection measures and allow users to play games outside of authorized hardware, they have led to extensive piracy. In particular, we have been deeply disappointed when users have used our software to leak game content prior to its release and ruin the experience for legitimate purchasers and fans.

We have come to the decision that we cannot continue to allow this to occur. Piracy was never our intention, and we believe that piracy of video games and on video game consoles should end. Effective today, we will be pulling our code repositories offline, discontinuing our Patreon accounts and Discord servers, and, soon, shutting down our websites. We hope our actions will be a small step toward ending piracy of all creators’ works.

Thank you for your years of support and for understanding our decision.

The Github repo is also completely fucking gone since half an hour or so. Fuck Nintendo.
What strikes me as strange is that when Nintendo sends a takedown notice, people comply outright. Nobody challenges them. Nintendo, whose wallets are ever tightened, pennies constantly pinched, gets to steamroll their way all over their most dedicated fans with minimal effort. In some cases, like Pokemon Uranium, they quit exclusively out of fear, not because Nintendo sent them a letter. What would happen if somebody actually pushed back? At what point would the benefit be overshadowed by the investment, for Nintendo?

double post but whatever.
to answer "Why does every Megacorp (Coke, Google, etc) seem to be able to get sued by every Karen and lolcow on the planet and still lose multiple class actions and/or settle out of court to avoid a loss" specifically. Class actions are completely different then what is happening here, and a random karen settling for 100 grand because there was cum in the coke or some shit would probably end up cheaper then a judgement pay if the karen has a real legal grievance.

Nintendo, iirc, might as well be a BlackRock type investor entity across the Japanese economy. Their "war chest" is bottomless and they could run in the red for decades before they come to any real problems financially. They will, however, aggressively fight anything that can present even the smallest hypothetical damage to them. Emulation has always been on their radar but ultimately couldn't do much about. Yuzu, if I understand correctly, actively breaks encryptions on switch roms, which is 100% something that could be argued about in court for breaking DMCA. So now nintendo gets to take their fat cock and slam it on the table, and the yuzu devs wisely(for their own wellbeings) chose to bend the knee.

Smash felt interchangeable between the two consoles
The 3DS' single player mode and Smash Run is IMO way better than that board game shit the WiiU was doing.

Mario also competed against itself as New Sup and 3D games were also pretty interchangeable
3D >>>>>>>>>>>>> New. Both Land and World are pretty top notch in their gameplay and level design. The "NEW" series relied on the new power-ups each game offered so they built the levels around them... sorta. They're still pretty stale. The Gold Mario gimmic was the only new power-up I actually enjoyed. I could give two shits about the Helicopter/Penguin/Squirrel ones.

To give credit, the 3DS was great in reinvigorating Kirby, Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing. Outside of those, it really floundered everything else.
My dude, if you're going off of 1st party IP's then sure? (but even then I still contest that argument due to WarioWare and Rythm Heaven... hell, DeeDeeDee Drum Dash is fun as fuck) Otherwise you need to spend some time in the ocean that is the 3rd party/indie games because there are PLENTY of hidden gems that deserve a second chance.

Citra has just shut down. God forbid anyone emulate 13 year old games that can no longer be officially purchased!
Yuzu being killed isnt such a big deal because Ryujinx exists which does a better job at actually emulating instead of needing a bunch of hacks to make things run (albeit it performs slower), but there is no alternative for Citra. Why do these faggots have to be so retarded around Nintendo, why cant they just lay low and not try to profit off it?

I don't understand why they had to also take down Citra, it wasn't even part of the lawsuit. Nevermind the fact the 3DS isn't even supported anymore. This isn't looking good for the emulation scene.
Speaking of. Is there a place to get the last build of it?

I love watching legal activity getting shut down because it makes a corporation sad. I love living in a world where idiotic business models are enforced by government with the threat of physical violence. I love that businesses get to have all of the advantages of infinitely-reproducible digital information without any of the downsides. I love that the coming DNA surveillance businesses are justified by idiots because we drop DNA constantly, meaning it's perfectly fine and justifiable to take advantage of that, while again living in this world where other inconvenient aspects of reality are repeatedly beaten down by laws for our masters.

I downloaded at the last moment before they took it down, so I have the latest nightly build. You might find it on archive.org. I know people have been saying that yuzu has been backed up there, so you might find Citra there as well. There's also torrents.

I'm not so sure. The Japanese (and especially Nintendo) are intellectual property maximalists and have shown time and time again that they're happy to fuck their biggest fans in the ass just because they can, even if they have no intention of making money. You use their products in exactly the manner they intend or they will rain corporate hellfire down upon you.
