There is definitely something to be said with how limitations breed creativity when in the right hands (though some of their devs like GameFreak really need to get it together). Especially since it doesn't involve just throwing hundreds of millions of dollars at a project.

Sony could take some notes.

9 Years is a Metroidvania with a Sailor Moon twist that has an ost by the Lady that scored SotN. Death's Door is a top down Zelda style game about a crow that reaps souls that's supposed to be really good.
It’s a lot more combat focused than Zelda, and there is a huge focus on pattern memorization like megaman. Good game.
Part of that is forcing developers to be efficient in their code, weeding out shitty developers and 0design-by-comittie developers. If the Switch 2 is powerful enough Nintendo will have to put artificial restrictions in to ensure the games stay high quality.
It’ll be: “Fit this bitch on the cheap 16GB physical card or else!”

Horizon Zero Dawn being the best selling Sony game is funny. I know it’s a good game, it’s just that zero people talk about that series. It’s like the James Cameron’s Avatar of gaming.

Second, the selection can be a veritable smorgasbord with no "identity."

What I mean is... when I think of a SNES game, there's a very specific range of thoughts, feelings, and ideas I think of. Likewise the Sega Genesis--something like Valis III is not a game I could see being on the SNES, but something like Secret of Mana is not something I could see ever being on the Genesis, so on and so forth.
That's been a problem since at least last gen, arguably 7th generation. These consoles don't feel distinct, no personality. Nintendo at least has its strong 1st party brand, but Switch is their first system that feels a bit soulless despite that.

It's a fantastic looking game and very well animated.
Oh yeah, it does, I just saw it was already on my massive wishlist lol. Very cool game.

Kind of funny, but even though Nintendo doesn't pour millions of dollars into fancy AAA production values most of the time, they are still managing to blow Sony away in terms of software sales.
Nintendo really is the best, those Sony games are all absolute garbage aside from GT, which just isn't for me. I don't like even half of those Nintendo games but at least most are respectable and there's some great stuff in there.

Mario Maker 2 is my new addiction. I'm committed to re-creating stages from other video games and "mario-fying" them. My trick is that I've made a grid template on the computer that has the same amount of boxes as the editor. Then I just transpose a stage map behind the grid, zoom the image and then on Mario Maker I put the terrain and other objects in the same spots as the grid map (in short, VERY autistic box counting), which as you can guess is VERY time consuming. Although the stages don't turn out 100% as the source, but I think that's what makes them unique.

The Switch has a lot of great JRPGs. Rejoice!

no. a lot, but not all.

oooooohkay. Not sure where I said JRPGs were my issue.

Honestly the only "great" ones it has that I'm aware of are all re-releases from previous console gens.
I haven't played it yet, but the new Dragon Quest Monsters is probably great, as was Dragon Quest 11.

Not sure I trust DQM3 is all that (own it but haven't played it yet) but I did really like DQM: Joker 2 as well as the 3DS remakes.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a top-10 of-all-time game for me. Game has a really good mix of simplified building you would see in a minecraft clone with proper RPG mechanics.

The Builders games are what inspired me to get a Switch and I agree they're some of the best games on the system, and some of the best games in the entire franchise (I may even like them more than the main franchise).
