It was the sole game from the western Indie Direct that got my interest. By the same devs behind Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth, Touhou Luna Nights and Drainus.

I looked at Death Trick and 2 seconds in was met with a nigger. I hit dislike and exit like a Street Fighter input.

The new Shantae will likely be good, though it was already previously announced I'm pretty sure.

Why is it that every indie game is either filled with furries, or a side scroller that just fills your time with mindless busywork crafting?

And I don't tune in to a Nintendo showcase to hear that awful guttural language, Chinese. Like nails on a chalkboard.

Horrible. Just horrible.

Amen to that. I can see why it has a huge fanbase, but I just couldn't get into it.
I had some fun with the few I've played (GBC original, Half-Genie Hero and a few in between), the characters are adorable and I like the music...

That being said, Shantae for me represents something that makes me sad on a personal level: the "this is totally something I would've loved if I had gotten into it when I was young" type of thing.

Like, if I had played Shantae back when I was fifteen I would probably love these games (and not just because of the coomer-bait aspects, which are a thing I was always super-picky about even when I was a teen anyway), but right now I just find I don't have the patience to get into a new series with an anime-esque mythology about cutesy girls with weird Ranma-esque interpersonal relationships dealing with shit. Seems like the older you get, the less open you are to new things (or is that just me?)

Its one reason I don't bother with modern consoles... most of the time it seems like all I care about is re-releases of old games, and I mean its cool I can play Megaman X portably but its kinda whack to get $300 hardware for a game I've already owned in cartridge form for years.

Repping some shitty hiking game too

Also the same one that jerked itself raw about Celeste being a troon allegory
I really hate that. Celeste was a genuinely good game and one of the only good "stories about depression" that really worked. Then the suggestions of a troon angle came up.

In my headcanon Madeline is biological female, I don't care if the creator pulled a "Dumbledore is gay" on Twitter.

It's too tainted for me to even try doing that. I'm sure the game is fun but I just can't play it because of the troon shit.
That's kind of sad to hear because Celeste really is a good game, and IIRC the troon shit is literally only statements on Twitter and one flag you can find in the background of a shot if you're trying really hard to find it.

Though at the risk of being a bit critical I do find "I won't play game X because of an easily ignorable element" kind of weird. I mean we criticize SJWs who won't read Tolkien because they think he's sexist, and I don't think anything is accomplished by doing the same thing in the opposite direction.

Now if someone made a game about a tranny going around killing binaries GTA style and the final boss was Binary Hitler, I would totally understand avoiding that.

The GBA version was already announced, but I think the Switch version is a new reveal.
So there's an actual GBA version being made, and this is just being ported to Switch? That's super cool.

Shantae is massively overrated.
I agree, but it's pretty solid aside from the GBC one, which hasn't aged well.

Opened the Indie showcase and am instantly subjected to scottish tranny with squeaky voice
Which game did that tranny make?

Nah, now that's a game that's massively overrated, like Super Meat Boy.

Separating the art from the artist is one thing. One can make the argument that it's okay to play games made by trannies/books written by sexists, but actually playing as a tranny or a game with fag flags is a step beyond.

Yep, the original was cancelled 20-ish years ago and now they’re picking up where they left off, same dev tools and everything. The GBA version will even have link cable multiplayer, which makes me wonder how they’ll handle that in the Switch version. Wireless only, or all on one console?

You shut your whore mouth, Super Meat Boy was the shit. At least the original was. Everything after it is just regular shit, from what I’ve seen. And the Wii U/PS4/Vita port has a new soundtrack that’s mostly by Ridiculon, aka “the guys who followed up multiple Danny Baranowsky soundtracks and are significantly worse every single time”.

Maybe. Like I said I would understand more if the game made the situation completely unambiguous.

As it is with Celeste, if you don't know anything about the author's twitter (and lets face it, most people don't ever look up outside information on game they've played, movies they've watched, etc) then you have no reason to think there's any faggery gaggery in the game at all.

Even the one pride flag that is supposedly in the game (I don't recall ever seeing it in my own copy, just saying) is hidden and could easily be chalked up as someone just thinking it was pretty--the same way Capcom nearly called Megaman "Rainbow Warrior Rockman" while having no idea that rainbows are associated with gay pride.

......

This all being said, if I ever wake up one day and find they patched the game to put in dialogue of Madeline asking "what are your pronouns?" then I'll take your side 100%, and probably never trust another modern game again.

I was watching a video about Minecraft and its update history earlier and I realized it kinda bothers me that an iterative game like that can exist, where you buy it when its one way but if you go back to it years later its suddenly really different. At least with Street Fighter II, people who prefer Hyper Fighting or Champion Edition can buy specifically those editions and have them play like they remember.

This whole thing kinda sounds weird to me, because wasn't the abandoned GBA game already reworked into being Risky's Revenge? So aren't they essentially making the same game twice?

Not that this is anything new in modern gaming, but this case just seems especially weird somehow.

That's too bad, though it isn't really my type of game it looks cute and wholesome, I can't imagine a troon not cramming their ideology in somehow.

I love that, I wish such things would become the norm. I imagine they'll add wireless for Switch.

Bad character/world design and art style, boring, repetitive "die until you get it right via muscle memory" gameplay, shitty level design (perhaps technically sound but these stages don't feel like actual organic locations)... It was certainly the shit.

I'll admit it has some good songs, but it's not a legendary soundtrack good enough to save the game.

Why go through these mental gymnastics? Just say you don't mind fag flags, no need to gaslight yourself into buying into some theoretical plausible deniability, which you already know for a fact both doesn't exist and wouldn't be warranted nowadays even if it did.

You only care about faggotry if it's overt and front-and-center, I care about its inclusion on principle (with some wiggle room for intent, like in older media; I don't think Kojima had a gay agenda when making Vamp a faggot in MGS2, 23 years ago). It's that simple, you tolerate this insane sex cult and their symbols better than I do.
