Pretty sure the switch is done. Why make a pro edition when a backwards compatible Switch 2 is much smarter and more viable?
If its a new console and its back compat you could argue that its still a Pro, they might just have games that are only for the new system or enhanced like they did with the new 3ds. I can't see them throwing away the entire install base just like that, seems like something they would do mid life of the next console, stop supporting the previous once people have moved to the new system.

Radio silent outside of a total restart since its announcement 6 (6!!) years ago, wouldn't count on it

This has been rumored for years now and I am no closer to believing it'll be a thing now as opposed to when it first came about
I think Prime 4 is almost done. Dev was 100 percent rebooted when Retro took over and 4-5 years is the totally expected amount of time it takes to builld a new game. Will probably be a Switch 2 game. As to Donkey Kong.... I do not and never have believed the rumor but its not like NPD 8 (? whatever the 3D Mario team is, they are the ones rumored) has released or announced any other full game since then. It remains just as viable as it was years back.

PS Switch 2 in 2024, its gonna be announced as a 2024 item and the only way it doesn't release is if they have to do a late delay on it.

PPS: Anyone who factors in the Namco-Bandai Singapore time into its dev time is fucking up, can pretty much guarantee that 100 percent of that shit was scrapped when they switched it to Retro.

Just got a OLED Zelda Switch with same day shipping. Been saving for a while, rewards points too, so I got it less than a base switch when all was totaled up. I'm gonna play so many VNs on this, Witch of the Holy Night, and things like House of the dead, can't fucking wait

serious question: what is the appeal of having VNs on Switch as opposed to PC or any other gaming platform without a dedicated controller? It's always seemed like controllers make things infinitely more clunky, I don't get the appeal at all.

I get to have the Cartridge lol. That and Witch on the Holy Night is console exclusive.

Any prediction that a Switch Pro/2 is coming in 2024 should be met with a resounding "no shit". It's obviously not happening this year, so the question is whether the current Switch can last until 2025, another two years, when it's been struggling to run first party games - let alone third party - for most of its life, and Nintendo has already used up basically all of their once-per-system games, sometimes even making two new entries when they usually wouldn't. Not to mention that going by US release dates, it's already outlived every single Nintendo system except the original Game Boy. If Nintendo hits us with a surprise Switch Pro releasing Holiday 2023, then I could see Switch 2 happening in 2025, but that's a significant stretch at this point.

The Switch 2 will release on Sunday, November 17, 2024. Tell your friends.

Same reason people loved reading all the VNs on the Vita, some people find it pretty comfortable to sit anywhere and read with a small portable device.

I prefer reading visual novels on a handheld/portable format, just like it was the case for the Playstation Vita. The majority of them since then have touchscreen support too.
I can easily get them in moonrunes on Switch even if I do pay premium (sales do regularly happen on the JP eshop at least except for anything published by Prototype), in addition that there is a bunch of titles only available on Switch and not PC.

your late adoption is not Nintendo's responsibility. At this rate you'll have years of enjoyment before you get around to buying the Switch's replacement.

Not to mention that after the replacement launches, the Nintendo Selects program will relaunch so the best games sell for $20 or so.

Okay, admittedly I don't do VNs that often, so maybe that's why this post is confusing me.

I mean... they're novels. Its even in the name.

Last I checked, regular book-books are already a portable activity. So it makes sense people would want the digital version of that to also be portable. And I'm not sure why an experience that mostly consists of "press button to turn page" needs a full mouse and keyboard setup or would be in any way "clunky" with a controller.

But again.... maybe there's something about the experience that I'm missing. If so, please feel free to fill me in.

my understanding is they're like "choose your own adventure books" where you get instructed to turn to specific pages depending on your choices. but with a narrator and pictures and having later outcomes affected by earlier decisions.

FTFY. If I wanted to read a book, I'd....read a fucking book. My imagination is a far better medium than a screen anyway.
I agree, but in theory I can understand the appeal of a VN... more for a writer than a reader though.

In writing I've had so many times where I'm like "this section would be so much better animated!" or "this would be so much better with music!" or where just in general I don't know how to describe something in text so it would be easier to somehow include a movie of what's going on in my brain.... VNs kinda sorta let writers do that.

Like most good concepts though, its ruined because most of the stories told in VNs could easily be done in traditional formats, and like most Japanese works most of the people don't really have passion or inspiration but just want to copycat something that was popular recently. So hello 2000th stupid book about teen romance...

Some don't have any interactivity, and generally more boring as a result. I think they're referred to as kinetic novels or something.
