no way glowie pikmin
The CIA pikmin glow in the dark, you can see them while you're driving. You just gonna run em over, that's what you do.
The Metal Gear Collection is pretty nice. Otherwise more uninteresting stuff. And beating the Battle Royale dead horse, again.

how is a remake of a turn-based rpg lagging this hard

>Smash Bros. tourney
>Seattle

Oh boy. lmao
And MORE AMIIBOS. CONSOOM!

And it's basically over. 5/10.

I regret saying there weren't many new frontiers for 2D Mario games

there aren't any good ones, but this is
certainly new

EDIT: Seriously what
How high were they when they were getting ideas for this

for some reason almost every mario-related game in this direct displayed Mario as a squashed midget
and also Pokemon forgot where it's supposed to show up for announcements

that might be the weirdest direct i've seen in like 3 years

I'm super stoked to see Super Mario RPG getting recognition, even if Mario himself looks weird in that style. I understand they're replicating the original sprite which I liked but he looks a bit off in 3D and with more emphasis on his expressions. I hope they rework the UI, it looks bland. Otherwise I like how much more animated everything is. Bowser looks way better, they better keep the funny crying sprite.

After how stale New Super Mario Bros got I'll take any bit of creativity

Agreed, happy to see Super Mario RPG, but everybody looks weird as fuck.

No Metroid, so another year in hell for that one I guess.

Mario Kart looks great! And I really liked that Mario Rabbids DLC. That vampire game looked neat to play at home.

Not gonna get too excited over Luigi's Mansion 2 remake. But if they can fix it up and make it control more like 1 or 3, the game will be much better. Super Princess Peach 2 looks hype. Can't wait for HORMONES.

Annnnnd... oh the Batman games work on Switch? Neat.

Review time, I haven't read any comments from the last hour that are probably just reeing anyway
  • Mediocre DLC for the worst Pokemon game. The framerate and visuals are still embarrassingly bad, I can't believe they would actually put this in a trailer. But they know it doesn't matter because modern Pokemon fans have zero standards.
  • Sonic Superstars is looking better and better, though this didn't really show much that we didn't already know.
  • MythForce is neat. Not for me, but I can see the appeal.
  • They really spent time on a fucking Splatfest. Not even some cross-promotional thing, just a normal Splatfest. Though they finally added white ink :tomgirl:
  • Oh god, I thought they buried Detective Pikachu. And the framerate is STILL terrible. This Direct sucks so far.
  • Super Mario RPG on Switch Online, that's kinda neat I guess- WAIT IT'S A REMAKE AAAAAAAAA IT LOOKS SO GOOD GENO IS BACK BOYS funnily enough, I was watching a video about Geno being shafted from Smash immediately before the Direct
  • Is the Princess Peach game standalone, or is it bundled with the Mario RPG remake like what the Mario & Luigi remakes did? If it's bundled, great. If not... I don't know, we'll see.
  • I appreciate the love for Luigi's Mansion, but I didn't really like Dark Moon, and a remake isn't going to change that. I still wish the 3DS remake of the original had come to Switch instead.
  • Do casuals even care about Just Dance anymore?
  • Hot Wheels Unleashed 2, like the first, looks surprisingly good.
  • A new Dragon Quest Monsters, neat.
  • Pikmin 4 looks good. I'm surprised they didn't even show gameplay of the 1+2 ports, they were just like "oh by the way the originals are on Switch today". Are they ports? Remasters? Overpriced?
  • The Metal Gear collection kinda looks like a worse version of the PS3 collection, but whatever.
  • Penny's Big Breakway looks okay, but if it's made by the Mania devs, it's probably really good. I might have to try it.
  • A WarioWare Shake It sequel? I'm not big on motion controls anymore, but I'll get it anyway; WarioWare is a consistently great franchise to me, and this looks like a lot of fun.
  • I'm very surprised they didn't announce Tears of the Kingdom DLC, especially given that they talked about amiibo.
  • Super Mario Bros. Wonder looks like the breath of fresh air that 2D Mario needed, and I'll definitely get it. But it's not exactly "final reveal at not-E3" material.
Overall, good Direct by normal standards, bad by E3 standards. And I'm generally more optimistic about these, so I imagine everyone else is seething. But there are at least three new reveals here that I know I'll get, which is more than I can say for most Directs. I just feel sorry for anyone who isn't a Mario fan.

didn't you guys just get Dread a year or two ago and the Prime remaster not even half a year ago?
Prime 4 has been trapped in development hell for like 6 years now, yes I do happen to be curious about the thing that was announced. It finishing would also mean Retro would be free to do something else.

Judging from the fact that it doesn't look like an RPG, nor is the art style even remotely similar (Peach is actually proportionate in the new game), I think it's standalone

doubleposting to crosspost new info about SV here because the trailers showed off jack shit but the website actually gave LITERALLY ANY INFO whatsoever
also I just want to complain about Fezandipiti's model
It's so so bad it actually made me laugh when I first saw it
Motherfucker looks like a bowling pin

Nintendo Direct dropped a new trailer today
Unfortunately, it is fucking nothing
The most we learned is that double battles are making a return (you just have to pay $35 to do them more than twice in the entire game), Blueberry academy is run by a black dude, and the new town they showed off in Kitakami is called Mossui Town (which was also not given in the trailer- I had to look up new info on the website for that)
The only thing of note is Fezandipiti's hysterically terrible 3D model and the fact that this DLC will be just as barren as the base game if not moreso

also the rivals are still using unevolved shitmons from past games' route 1s lol

EDIT: seriously though, look at that body
I have never seen a worse bird model in my life

EDIT 2: dumping some new official art
1687360204112.png 1687360241279.png
EDIT 3: Loyalty Trio has a "Toxic Chain" ability that makes it so that if one of its members hits an opponent with ANY move, they have a chance to become BADLY POISONED. Fucking lol. "Old ability but objectively way better" is my "favorite" trend of new abilities.

Version-exclusives also remain for the DLC, as expected: shown in the trailer, Gligar is exclusive to Scarlet and Aipom is to Violet. Scarletchads stay winning.

Oh, and also, Gimmighoul Chest Form has a 5-star raid with a chance for a shiny now. Why on earth you would ever want a shiny as bad as that one is beyond me, but you can have it if you want.

Still no release date.

EDIT: The post has been updated because the Gimmighoul raid they promoted is completely broken lol

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is living up to the name for me, I'm so happy that we're finally getting a return to the more cartoony aesthetic for Mario. Being that the series is so heavily inspired by Dr. Slump, it really feels like it's going back to the roots of the franchise. On the other hand the RPG remake looks uninspired to me. It's in a weird place of trying to ape the original's look and trying to copy the stock Mario art style.

A remastered Super Mario RPG still got me off guard, but I'm ok with it. A Metal Gear first volume collection is also a great promise. But my god, Detective Pikachu 2 looks like a 2000s Gamecube, DS or Wii game, it screams outdated. That said, a new Mario game looks nice.
