the three Xenoblade games.
This hurts me.

The class switching in XC3 comes straight from XCX's class mastering system. There is an entire class tree with subclass types, each using their own weapon types (there are ranged and melee weapons, switchable on the fly and with their own arts). Once you max out a class, you unlock that classes weapon type for the drifter class, allowing you to use any of that weapons arts with the class that has extra passive perk and soul art slots (another mechanic that was removed).

Teammates have affinity quests for each affinity level, that when you complete you unlock an art from their unique class (each party member has a unique class, but they still use weapons that you use, they all have their own unique arts).

I'm going to keep sucking this game's dick until the end of time. Pretty much every gameplay addition in XC2 and XC3 comes from XCX, just with changes to fit the respective game's combat system. If you like JRPGs that have insane character building freedom, play this game. (Not even mentioning the Skells, mech suits, that have their own limb based weapon system and limb damage, different mech class types and the augment crafting system)

Anyway, you should play Xenoblade X, it's essentially the gameplay of XC1 perfected, but the story is mid (it had potential but nintendo demanded they add online, so that meant custom characters so they scrapped the entire storyline they had written). Cemu runs the game pretty well now, and you can uncap the FPS and use mods to access the online content offline.
I actually own a Wii U and multiple copies of the game (purchased back when it was 10 dollars used), I'll probably give it a go one of these days but not right now.

Looks like Falcom is truly releasing all their past games on Switch, with now Tokyo Xanadu Ex+ announced this June:
Where the hell are the Crossbell games in japanese though?

Ingame its not terrible, but I think some of the facial expressions look worse in the remaster, but whats really bad is the change of artstyle on the character portraits
I didn't play the original game on Wii, only the Switch version, but the comparison shots I've seen make the original graphics look rather goofy

It was Wii era, you were meant to see them through a CRT.

Not denying they look a little bad, but what I meant was they are more tonally consistent with the rest of the game's art style. They also changed some full screen effects in flashbacks that look worse in the remaster. The anime style looks fine for XC2 or XC3 (despite me not being a fan of it) but for XC1 it just looks out of place. There is a roughness to the textures and shading of the Wii version that is gone in the remaster.

yes I know they are all 'anime' styled

So I was thinking more on Xenoblade and I've come to a conclusion. Surely Shulk chose Melia over Fiora, right? I mean, the pluses and minuses are so clear....

Actually, Fiora gets her body back after the game (as you can see in the epilogue cutscene). Shulk uses some ancient High Entia technology. It's actually in a story that was included with the design works book 'Xenoblade: The Secret Files Monado Archive'. I have it, but it's all Japanese. Nice artwork, even includes the entire game's script (which I can't read lol).

Here is a translation: https://www.giantbomb.com/profile/7force/blog/xenoblade-monado-archives-translation/102412/

Xenoblade X has a similar book that also contains crucial world building details as short stories, which has stuff on Elma's character and backstory that is alluded to in game, and even further built on in the Xenoblade 2 DLC (very slightly, would go over the head of anyone who hasn't read the stories or done all the Heart to Hearts).

https://xenomira.wordpress.com/2021/09/07/art-of-mira-summary-reading-guide/ here is a translation of the more interesting stuff from that (SPOILERS FOR XENOBLADE X) This link shows a lot of what the game was going to be before the major rewrites. It makes me think they aren't finished with XCX yet.

Can't find the translation of the story from the XCX book, I read it a few years ago, so it exists.

Yeah, I actually know, I omitted it since having her be an impossible-to-sex robot was funnier. And to be frank, from the plot summary on the wiki, the story sounds kind of like fan fiction tier stuff where the character just so happens to find a lore-breaking device halfway through the plot but it never gets brought up despite major story implications. Like it was a Dragonball Z movie roughly shoved into a pre-existing story. Although, its also officially canon and clearly referenced in the post-script to Future Connect where
Shulk and Melia go their separate ways with her living on the shoulder while Shulk returns to human Fiora on the collapsed remains of Bionis.
And apparently (XC3 spoilers)
Melia shows up there, presumably without Shulk.

FWIW I could have easily gone the other way and accused Melia of being a literal birdbrain with a bird for a brain due to her wing-ears. Both are actually totally fine wifus.

edit: My personal suspicion is that X has remained un-ported so that they can put it (and Wii U Yoshi, Zelda remakes, etc.) on the Switch successor as definitive editions in a few years time.

That'd be nice. Hopefully it'll be the uncensored version of X and maybe they'll clean out the dogshit localization. There was an actual doge meme in one of the board quests.
