This hurts me.the three Xenoblade games.
The class switching in XC3 comes straight from XCX's class mastering system. There is an entire class tree with subclass types, each using their own weapon types (there are ranged and melee weapons, switchable on the fly and with their own arts). Once you max out a class, you unlock that classes weapon type for the drifter class, allowing you to use any of that weapons arts with the class that has extra passive perk and soul art slots (another mechanic that was removed).
Teammates have affinity quests for each affinity level, that when you complete you unlock an art from their unique class (each party member has a unique class, but they still use weapons that you use, they all have their own unique arts).
I'm going to keep sucking this game's dick until the end of time. Pretty much every gameplay addition in XC2 and XC3 comes from XCX, just with changes to fit the respective game's combat system. If you like JRPGs that have insane character building freedom, play this game. (Not even mentioning the Skells, mech suits, that have their own limb based weapon system and limb damage, different mech class types and the augment crafting system)
