3 or 4 pages of people saying about all the incredible and diverse ways you can fight (always the same) enemies in BotW but nobody provides examples. I wonder why...?

If all a player does is drop trees on Moblins and swing their swords willy-nilly, of course they aren't going to find the combat as interesting, because that's not really how the game is designed to be played. It very much encourages the player to look for more creative solutions
What solutions?

If a straightforward option works, how is it "on the player" for not going out of their way to do things more creatively?
Because more often than not, the straightforward approach is often less effective than finding more creative methods.
What solutions?
(Potentially autistic post incoming)

Sniping them from afar, using elemental based weapons such as fire ones on the snow-based enemies, using magnesis to hurl metal objects at them, also using magnesis on metal objects in thunderstorms to hit them with lightning, using electric arrows on pools of water that the enemies are in, literally bring a Cucco to battle, using stealth to sneak up on them, freezing them and then using a Korok leaf to blow them off cliffs, flinging heavy pieces of the environment with via using Stasis on them and building kinetic energy, using perfectly timed parries, flipping the Guardians over with Cryonis, using bombs to knock enemies into bodies of water, using the boomerangs as a makeshift shield via sprinting after aiming them as high as you can, and twirling spear weapons while on horseback.

I'll stop before I go too much into it, and some strategies are indeed more effective than others. But these are just a few that players are encouraged to find. Even now, players are finding new ones.

Looking back on it, I'm kinda neutral towards BOTW. It was my first Zelda (and first open-world game, really), so I'm bound to be a bit starry eyed when it comes to how pretty the graphics look and all that good stuff.

I wasn't that serious into gaming - still am a bit of a "casual" - but, boy, once I figured out how to actually fight without dying for more than a few seconds, the game became a hell of a lot more fun. Well, excluding the damned swords and bows breaking, but then, I could always find more and occasionally better weapons. Climbing and shit was a bit of a chore until I figured out you can trade those spirit orbs for extra hearts or expanding that stamina gauge, so had some fun with trying to find a location I overlooked previously because I was trying to complete the main barebones story (stumbling across the jungle was a peak moment for me, along with wandering around Akkala. Thought those parts of the map were beautiful).

Glad I'm not the only one who thought the English voice acting was gay. Happy as hell when I found out you can change it to whatever language you want, so stuck with Japanese audio throughout the rest of the game.

TL:DR: Good but not that great in retrospect. Watching the sequel's trailer a few weeks ago was a bit of a disappointment given that we had to wait, what, another year for this shit to come out and all we got was Link driving a car. Man, they missed me with that shit lol. Still have some cautious optimism, 'cause it's Zelda and I glimpsed through the game's artbook and thought some of the designs looked cool.

Just rename the thread to “BotW hate thread” already.

Switch probably isn’t even powerful enough to emulate Gamecube if the LibRetro Dolphin core is any indication.
Personally, it's hard for me to say. Nintendo made both gamecube and switch, feel like if they really wanted to do it they probably could make it work. If not? It'll be on switch 2 most likely.

They made a hybrid solution. The renderer code is native, but the logic is emulated.
I'm code/programming illiterate. Does that mean it's plausible for gamecube or wii games to come the way the other consoles have? Or was it something that worked for the specific cartridge instead?

It can, just nobody has ported the core to Horizon OS (the Switch native OS). You can run dolphin in Lakka decently, not the best, but if someone actually optimized it you could get full speed on probably most games. I got it running Metroid Prime and even Xenoblade 1 (with stutters)

the player is obligated to start doing shit to try and break the game, it fosters creativity
You see, there's this thing in game theory called "dominant strategy". If you're given an optimum means of taking out enemies in a game, you're always going to use it. Sure you could do all of those things @LightDragonman1 pointed out, but why do that when a slash with a powerful sword could do the job easier (and quicker)?

>Tfw today is the 30th fucking anniversary of the Star Fox series, and Nintendo has done nothing and announced nothing to commemorate it, or even acknowledge it at the most recent Direct

Being a fan of this series is a never-ending exercise in suffering.

It's been non stop suffering since command came out.

Now that i have a pc that can handle it i've been emulating switch games and honestly as much as i want to be edgy and make fun of nintendo both Botw and Mario Odissey have been fantastic.

I fucking hate open world games and was prepared to be cynical about Botw, i kinda was but then looked at the time and i had already played for like 10 hours straight without stopping. The shrines are still not good replacements for proper dungeons and i prefered it when heart pieces were tied to side quests but the gameplay loop is very fun. The graphics are pretty shit but the game still looks good art direction wise.

Odissey just puts me in a good mood. Like when a dog with a silly hat shows up, leads you to a moon to dig up then follows you a bit and if you throw the hat he catches it and plays fetch with you, i can't help but soyface at all the small details and how pretty the levels are, also loved the orchestal soundrack, its all very feelgood.
