Wario has two series of popular games. Waluigi is the only one with nothing to his name.

That's more of a stopgap measure than anything though. If Nintendo can't put more storage in their console due to the form factor, the least they could do is allow you to connect a 2-4 TB hard drive to the console while docked.

The problem with digital is that you then run into the Switch's limited onboard storage, and lack of compatibility with external hard drives (which even the Wii U could do at launch).
MicroSD cards are pretty cheap for additional storage and considering the overall range of filesize of digital games on Switch (most of them are below 10GB and it's uncommon for a title to go above 15GB) so the problem is non-existent. The one minor problem is the bus limiting the speeds so there is no point into purchasing a fast card for the console.

Edit: I doubt the average person will need more than 256gb (priced around 30€ in my country for a Sandisk brand) and any more sounds like a recipe for choice paralysis

I'm pretty sure the larger SD cards are still like 3-4 times more expensive than a portable drive of similar space and capacity.

And that's if they're legit because their space values can be faked if you get a cheap/no name brand.

Form factor has fuckall to do with it, they could put in a 10 TB hard drive without taking much space. They don't want to pay for it. Hence the microSD solution.

I wish they would fix Onigiri on Switch. The Switch really needs a fun MMO I can play for a couple hours with my brain turned off. Onigiri is exactly that but when I enter a dungeon the FPS tanks to slide show.

Except it has, you have games on the switch that don't work without a digital download because the cart can't fit all the data.
That’s bad for sure, but it only applies to third parties; Nintendo’s own games haven’t been negatively affected by the use of cartridges (Nintendo trying to accommodate for third party devs is a different issue altogether).
There's also stuff like the Kingdom hearts streaming games which you pay for but then own zero of the data and everything is dependent on square keeping the servers up just so you can actually play the game.
That has nothing to do with cartridges, that’s just Square Enix being lazy and not wanting to make actual Switch ports.
Yeah I know I have a few for my machines. But they're kind of going the way zip drives did.
“Zip drives”? You mean flash drives? Because those aren’t going anywhere either. Micro SD cards are definitely here to stay, given how prominent they are in… basically every handheld electronic non-Apple device made in the last 5-10 years.

No, he means hard disk drives, zoomer.

Zip drives were a format from the late 90s that could hold a whole lot more data than the then-popular 1.44mb floppy, but they went obsolete quickly as CD burners with cheap 700mb discs became ubiquitous.

Very few computers came with a built-in Zip drive, and both the drives and disks were relatively expensive. They were only really a thing for a few years.

MicroSDs have been a standard thing for over a decade, and their readers are so backwards compatible, most people wouldn't notice. Something that can read MicroSDUC cards can also read SDXC, SDHC, and of course, basic SD. I don't know how Marissa Moira compares them to Zip disks, when, ironically, that comparison works better with Sony's long-dead Memory Stick line.

They compare them because they're intentionally being a tool, like comparing Edward Norton Hulk to Shrek was at the time (shit was annoying back in the day)

Interesting; the more you know. I thought it was just an uncommon term for flash drive, like “thumb stick”.

Like I said most machines are not coming with SD slots anymore, the majority of PC cases being made only occasionally offer them as an option at this point and not a standard thing like they used to be. Not only that most smaller devices that used to use them heavily have mostly been replaced with smart phones so their overall use has shrunk. However PC cases will always offer USB compatible slots which are incredibly common which is what most storage devices use.

Currently it's more common to get a PC case with built in components for LED Lights than being able to read assorted physical media at this point. So that's priorities for you.

Yeah how could anyone ever make that comparison? Shrek at least found love in the end.

SD card slots on laptops have been, and still are, common, but not ubiquitous. I just Asked Jeeves™ "costco laptop", and the first one that came up that wasn't a cheapo Chromebook has one. https://www.costco.com/hp-omen-15.6"-gaming-laptop---amd-ryzen-7-5800h---geforce-rtx-3060---2560x1440-165hz---windows-11.product.100858408.html

Cases never commonly did. They're mostly just shells with a small board with one or two USB ports on the front. Besides, case manufacturers know you can add a permanent SD card slot if you want it.

Not only that most smaller devices that used to use them heavily have mostly been replaced with smart phones so their overall use has shrunk.
Many current smartphones outside of iPhones and flagship Androids have MicroSD card slots. They're also still used in a countless variety of gadgets, such as drones and 3D printers, as they're the de facto small form factor disk.

However PC cases will always offer USB compatible slots which are incredibly common which is what most storage devices use.

They tend to come with RGB hubs that look like this:

and a couple of front USB ports for convenience. That's something you wouldn't need unless you have a case designed to show off your lighting, so it makes sense to pack them in. They don't need to come with a whole smorgasbord of USB ports, because your motherboard will have plenty on the back.

edit: wait, shit, this is a Nintendo thread

I actually remember this

My dad had a friend who had two sons. One of them was a computer geek that had one of those and convinced my dad into getting one for our computer. He kept saying how this was cutting edge and the future of technology or some shit like that. My dad never touched it after he got one.

Meanwhile I was too busy playing Power Stone on the son's Dreamcast in their house while he was talking to my dad, so I didn't really give a shit. I thought it was gimmicky then, and it looks like I was right.

I end up skipping any globohomo indie game trailer since they have that same feel. It feels like that Indie film bit in South Park.
