Hey look, I was right:
and @Marissa Moira was WROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG
That insufferable faggot and massive sony fanboy has been wrong 90% of the time, so it shouldn't come off as a surprise honestly.

Switch’s success is a testament to the sheer motive power of Nintendo’s IP. People want Mario kart and Zelda over and over again, and they’re willing to play it on whatever godforsaken hardware Nintendo creates.

And y’know what? Good on them. The market is already saturated between Sony and Microsoft, with their hardware basically being indistinguishable. Nintendo is playing to their strengths.
Bear in mind, that in addition to what @Sparky Lurker said, it's also the sole relevant console in Japan and that there is a massive support from third-parties never seen since the DS/SNES days (and that's not counting the IPs that used to be more of a Playstation sort of thing like EDF). There are people like me who use the Switch as the new PSP/Vita too.

Nintendo do well because gameplay beats graphics ever time and Nintendos first party stuff is at the very least consistently "decent".

I sorta see Nintendo's success as sort of a reflection on why Japanese gaming as been making a comeback in recent years.

It's funny, as a little over a decade ago, Japanese gaming was quickly being left behind by all the new experiences being brought about by Western developers thanks to the power of the HD console generation, and simple, colorful experiences were seen as "outdated", with tons of games from Japan not selling as well or getting as much hype as the cinematic blockbusters that were enthralling critics and players. Even Nintendo, although the Wii was a big success, was mocked for not trying to go that route (and when they did enter HD development with the Wii IU, it failed horrendously). Hacks like Keiji Inafune were calling Japan's gaming industry "over" and that they needed to Westernize or die, leading to many of the ill-advised reboots of their properties and such.

Fast forward to now, and Japan, while not quite as prolific as during the 5th and 6th console generations, are now back to creating games that are beloved all over the world, and are even getting a much warmer reception from critics and fans. Just look at how the Switch, while not very powerful or giving the most cutting-edge visuals, is still selling gangbusters.

Meanwhile, the formerly dominant Western gaming industry, while still raking in billions every year, are now being lambasted for over focusing on visuals and cinematic spectacle over trying to create anything fun. That may have been enough a few console generations ago, but with graphical progress slowing down with every passing month, it doesn't cut the mustard anymore. Not helped by the money-grubbing the publishers like to do in order to keep those investors happy, because they have sunk too much into this area to back out. Basically, they're doubling down on it rather than adapting or going back to the drawing board. Ironically, the Japanese company that is arguably the most maligned nowadays, Konami, is doing very similar antics to the likes of EA and Activision.

The Western Triple A gaming scene has just become too bloated and risk-adverse, and people are looking for fresh and fun experiences, not ones that are only focused on cutting-edge graphics and monetization out the wazoo.
You can add in the rise of Steam as an industry juggernaut making it easier than ever for indie devs to distribute their games, and easier than ever for customers to get exposure to titles they would’ve never even known existed. And of course indie studios have neither the time nor the budget to make the kind of 3D graphics that require super-powerful gaming PC’s to run properly, so they’re very well suited to lower-end hardware.

The Switch of course takes great advantage of this by padding out its library with a ton of fun, cheap indie games that you can take on the go and run just as well as they do on other platforms. Exclusive titles are what draw people TO the switch (I bought one to play BotW), but if that were its sole selling point, it wouldn’t have much appeal to anyone but Nintendo nerds. The reality is that you can buy a Switch, not touch a single Nintendo game, and still get your money’s worth out of it in playtime solely on its absolute mountain of cheap indie titles.

I'm with you on this one. There are so, so many games out there nowadays that even single lines like that are enough to be dealbreakers, because there are plenty of other games without that kind of nonsense. So, I don't have to risk getting invested into a story that might get more and more Clown World in its sequels.

Real talk though, why on Earth did Silvagunner, of all channels, have a Wikipedia page? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SiIvaGunner
I think it's mainly because of the channel got some rips dedicated to Robbie Rotten and Lazy Town (especially that the actor at the time needed donations) that led to the article.
Late but wrong guy. That article is for a group that has their own thread. Gilva just ripped the videogame OSTs and posted them on Youtube as a tribute to the original SilvaGunner that did the same thing after his first channel as TimmyTurner'sDad got banned long ago.

I've been hearing that, apparently, the copyright strike Gilvasunner got wasn't actually from Nintendo. Is there any proof of this?
Some degree of information has to be given to respond to a copyright claim, up to the users full address, but I don't know if the claimer has to relay the same amount. If this claim holds any water I'm guessing someone bragged about doing this. Anyone can basically claim to be anyone through Youtubes claim system.

I really do think it boils down to the fact that they still deliver fun, unique, and exclusive experiences that can't be found anywhere else. Even though others such as Sony do have many games only available on their systems, the problem is that they tend to blend together into the similar kind of game; third-person, cinematic, story-driven games with more focus on award-potential than crafting something truly new. While these games can still be fun, they don't do much to distinguish themselves, and Sony shutting down their Japan Studio which did focus on colorful and unique titles, presumably in order to go full steam ahead with award-bait stuff only adds to this.
This..

For whatever reason, Nintendo has always done a great job at distinguishing their first-party output. I can basically list off every title they have made for a system. The same cannot be said for a company like Sony, where many do blend together into feeling like a generic sole genre. The sad part is Sony used to do well with this. I feel like many could recall the output of the PS2. I believe the PS3, for as much as I love it, was where many titles started getting lost in the shuffle fast, and with the PS4, I can only really name The Last of Us and God of War as titles Sony made for the thing. They all try too hard to be realistic story shooter, that I loose track of what games they actually developed.

Maybe the colorful design is the key, but with Nintendo, even the more obscure titles I can put a name and image to. It is really a testament to their design.

The mid life cycle quote is old and came out before the article I linked saying that internally they wanted a new piece of hardware.

I'm more inclined to think Nintendo is going to at the very least make a whole new version that includes exclusive software. Because even the 3DS did it.

That insufferable faggot and massive sony fanboy has been wrong 90% of the time, so it shouldn't come off as a surprise honestly.
I've been more right than wrong tbh.

That's your opinion my man.
And I'm sure a lot more people in this thread share my "opinion" than yours. For actual fact based reasons.

Word to the wise: when someone corrects your incorrect statements with factual information, and you simply choose to ignore it and move on to something else, that does not, in fact, make you correct.

In the world of armchair analysts, nobody has a leg to stand on.

I have not played the remasters, though I considered picking them up. That Trials of Mana thing that they released looks pretty decent though so I may get that first.
People are mad about the smoothing but it does not bother me. If I had grown up with and played them on PS and Dreamcast, then I might have trouble adjusting to it.

First game's dub with virtual unknowns is still there in all its bad glory. Second one of course gets the professionals.
