That's the crazy part. Back when stuff like the N64 and Gamecube went on clearance, it was worth picking one up for $50 because you could also get the old games cheaper. Hell, the hardware got so cheap you could buy an extra as a spare.

What good is a clearance XSX or PS5 going to be ten years from now? Will they even boot if the network services they depend on aren't online anymore? Will any games start without an always-on internet connection? From what I understand, if you buy a discless console in this generation and later want to add an external disc drive for it, it has to be their specific brand & model (i.e. not just any USB device will do) and it requires online activation.

With that kind of bullshit attached to them, they'll be useless paperweights even at $50.

I don't think that Microsoft Gaming cares at all about selling Xboxes anymore. Those things have to pull their own weight, hence the price increases.

Nintendo could 4D Chess this situation and announce a price drop. They're too stupid and greedy for that but it'd be a big deal.
 
I remember back in 2020 they justified making Series S because they didn't think console prices would come down as the manufacturing realities have changed, and die shrinks don't happen with the same frequency or jumps that they used to. Since then it's been even worse with very high inflation, increasingly high manufacturing costs, and now massive tariffs in their most important market.

Guess it makes sense? But who's buying these consoles now, would just feel gross. I had thought to upgrade my One X at some point but there's really no reason to now with high prices and zero games.

I heard it's a good for emulation, but Steam Deck is cheaper and probably good enough.
 
I’m honestly still really excited and looking at my Mario kart playtime over 7 years, there’s not really a price they could charge where I wouldn’t be uncomfortable with play/dollar ratio. 120 would still be worth it! I actually have people in my household who just love Mario kart and won’t play other shit very much. Also I have the idle fantasy of Nintendo giving me the email so I can get it for 50 bucks with the bundle.

But I’m stuck with paying what it costs for things so I necessarily don’t mind much of anything that upsets gamers with the whole muh consumer rights thing, better to accept impermanence with all of these things than have a conniption about what’s beyond my control and probably the manufacturers also

Physical games just won’t be preserved well and their digital versions in emulators are what gets to the future. Multiplayer games will stop working one day, and like me and my memories they too die. only a few things get to be truly infinite games like chess or baseball or theater.

I’m excited most for mp4, the game looks awful on switch and good on switch 2, and I’m heartened to see the free switch 2 updates for those I am basically done playing. I guess girl Zelda and Mario u which I have barely touched. MP4 I am really optimistic about for no good reason really! 3 wasn’t great, but also it’s retros weakest game. If it’s as good as 3 I’ll be satisfied I guess I won’t feel ripped off. If it’s as good as tropical freeze then everything must change and my life’s purpose will be to join retro and become the mocap actor for donkey Kong for my dream sequel to tropical freeze, Donkey Kong banana hammock

It is? I thought the key cards were an elegant way for publishers to stop doing download codes and make these games resellable. Publishers won’t buy flash storage and write it off, it’s just too much more expensive than a blu ray or a code.

If they're actually resellable then maybe, but I wouldn't call it elegant at all, I'd call it minimal and another step towards the death of physical media. One could argue that with day 1 updates that's the case a while though.

Back in February I was looking to get rid of my Series X because I wasn't using it much. I went on ebay to see what people were selling them for and there were a ton of postings for around $200 to $300. Gamestop ended up giving me $375 at the time. I'm sure the ebay prices will go up now, but people were basically giving them away because they didn't want them. I really can't see how anyone will buy these at the new $600 price tag
 
Nintendo can get away with selling their games for more because people actually want to play them. Microsoft on the other hand puts out the most mediocre slop that no one gives a shit about and is also multiplatform so you don’t even need to actually own a 600 dollar Xbox that was released 5 years ago to play it.

I could just stop buying now and have plenty to keep me busy well into old age with games I already own. I know I am not alone in that regard.

Really dumb to try and make games expensive.
 
I just want them to charge higher prices for shits and giggles on these main title nintendo games, just out pure shear curiosity of how people would react and behave in actual market conditions, like not what any one claims or says, but what they actually do, like just throw out stupid values like 200 dollars lmao
Because we should know that people these days who do what they say and say what they do are not a common thing on the internet lol
