6th was indeed peak, but 5th gen absolutely competes.
The real edge it has is having 4 major home console launches. 5th gen technically did too, but nobody actually cares about Jaguar. It gets a little muddier factoring in portables.
For its time NES was better, but now I'd argue it's the worst Nintendo console.
No way, people loved GC, online it got a lot more hate than in real life. Nobody liked it as much as PS2 but it was liked almost as much as Xbox, or more if you ignore Halo fags (as you should).
I'd argue gens 4-6 were the peak, but my favorite is gen 6 of consoles and PC gaming. Still like Gen 3 and 7 of consoles, but they felt weaker by comparsion, and execpt for the 3ds and some switch games, gen 8 of gaming was weak
4th is really good too, but to really get the most out of it you need to be pretty into certain more arcade-y genres like beat em ups & scrolling shooters. 3rd gen requires masochism to appreciate that NES Hard shit. 7th was definitely solid, it's almost interchangeable with 4th but nostalgia counts for something to me, so it loses out.

It’s both 8th and 9th gen, the switch 2 will probably be considered both 9th and 10th gen, Nintendo has gotten themselves to releasing consoles in the middle of a generation, meaning their consoles will exist in 2 generations now
No, PAL50 was set to 50hz because older TVs could have problems when the refresh rate was out of phase with the mains power frequency (which is 50 hz in most of europe for historical reasons). This was only a concern for a very brief window of time but it got baked into the design of broadcast standards.
I suppose so, it did compete with both. Although it'd probably be the biggest time gap between consoles in a given generation, I do feel like Switch fits better in 9th gen. There was a similar time gap between TG-16 and SNES, but not quite as big, yet they're both considered 4th gen. Similar situation with GameCom & N-Gage, they don't fit too neatly into a generation either.
