Heck, it wasn't until the 3DS hit its early struggles that Nintendo finally managed to turn it around. Wii U had the misfortune of numerous dry spells and poor third party support, so hopefully, the Switch 2 will be more like the former than the latter.

i hope its the former, nintendo iirc tried to charge like 280$ for the 3ds at launch, and within 6 months, dropped it to 170$ thats when i got my 3ds. also nintendo line up for 3ds was weak at launch (who gives a shit about steeldivers). Nintendo is capable of backtracking and learning from their fuck ups, but i fear with the massive success of the switch 1, they'll not back down with the switch 2. but in general with the switch 2, i believe it will sell half the orignal switch did (so about 75ish million), which is no where near bad, but its the same level of drop sony had from the PS2 to PS3

with mario RPGs, I'd argued brothership was better with less tutorials, than Paper Jam or Dream Team (Dream Team is infamous for long tutorials), and i'd argued Brothership is better than paper jam (tho that's not hard). I havent really noticed much forced tutorials in Nintendo games during the switch era, but maybe im just blind or maybe my mind is forgetting (granted i dont play every damn switch nintendo game, there may be one with bad tutorials i havent played)

I dont really see many children with Switches these days. Mostly ipads. The only demographic I really see whaling for Nintendo are grown ass adults on welfare and disability. I dont think they can afford this shit so idk what Nintendo was thinking with the pricing.

The people in this thread talking about kids are talking out of their ass. The Switch's biggest and main demo continues to be men aged 18-35.

I have always called out steam for not letting people truly own their games, my point being is that you see PCMR fags go on about consoles for not owning games, but I tell them to look in the mirror, the utter truth is that except for GOG, no platform lets you own your games. Which is sad considering people have given up ownership rights to feel comfortable.

The difference with PC is that it's not a locked-down platform. I don't need special game carts or executables blessed by gaben to play a game on PC. If Steam dies or a publisher goes belly up, the game will still be easily obtainable as abandonware without me needing to mod shit. Parts for PC will always be generally obtainable and I won't ever be in a situation where I need to track down some kind of obscure replacement part just so I can play a 20 year-old game.

But this is all besides the point - I feel like giving Steam my trust is not a bad play considering I have games I bought back in 2007 that I still have full access to. Meanwhile a game I bought 10 years ago from Soytendo on the 3DS eshop is no longer obtainable without modding my console. And when my 3DS finally kicks it, where am I going to be able to play it? Oh that's right - on PC.

The only reason consolefags croon about physical media ownership so much is because they know it's the only safe bastion on a platform designed to imprison them and cut off their balls.

And i agree, tho i do wanna say i am scared of modern Tech just abanonding support of older standards, you say you buy games from 2007 and they work, but now with companies like Nvidia canning 32bit support and Phsyx support, i wonder how long PC parts will go before getting to the point of making older games just not work ever. Like how windows XP killed off 16 bit DOS support, so you had to get an emulator (but even then thats emulation, compared to hardware encoded standards like PhysX) . i may just be paranoid, but i feel Nvidia and Intel would be the type to utterly abandon tech standards for dumb reason

This has been my thought as well. On paper yes, Steam is no different from any other shitty digital storefront where you get sold a license for a game and they can rape you up the ass the moment the storefront becomes obsolete. But in practice Steam has outlived several console generations and their respective storefronts and digital downloads and I have games on my Steam account that I still replay over a decade of being on the platform. It's not an ideal situation and it sucks that Steam's monopoly on the PC gaming market has killed physical PC media but in a practical sense, they've done better at providing a service than Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo combined.

This too, the only reason I actually do have any use for a console anymore is when I want to own a game physically, so as I see Nintendo trying to pull this shit of forcing more games onto glorified download cartridges and just selling the physical games that do exist at an unjustified premium, the more inclined I am to just not give them that money to begin with. I thought for a while that Nintendo was the last of the major gaming companies that understood the appeal of being able to own physical media but I guess not when they just see it as an opportunity to extract moar shekels from it's consoomers.

Given all the backlash that Nintendo is currently getting from all angles, I honestly would be surprised if they aren't forced to address this come the holidays or something.

Since Nintendo has always prided themselves on being a more affordable experience compared to the competitors, hence why it has always attracted families, this will most likely end up eating into their sales.

That’s the biggest indicator to me that this new generation feels off. Not counting the PS5 Pro and Series X, Switch 2 will be the most expensive console on the market. Even a 256GB Steam Deck is cheaper, and that’s before discounts. Nintendo has always been the go-to answer for parents who want to get a simple and cheap yet fun game system, but now what do they do? Put the kids on freemium mobile games?

The amount of people who still think you can’t redownload eShop games is mind-blowing (and right after you accused other people of talking out of their asses). I can turn on my Wii right now, open the Wii Shop Channel, and redownload my games from 2007 without needing mods.

i can also launch my 3ds and download eshop games via H-shop, people do find ways to preserve even on console/handhelds. while PC emulation is the easiest to do, there are some that are detirment to play on OG hardware (and for 3ds/DS games i dont blame them)
