I don't know why I torture myself reading here knowing people are playing dread while I have to do college work and dont have much time to play it.

If it makes you feel better, I told myself I'll only go through one area a day and so far I'm sticking with it.

for anyone who's wondering, here's a list of items that my friend and I found can be gotten completely out of order:

Spin Jump
Grapple Beam
Speed Booster
Bombs
Cross Bombs

Here's stuff that I /think/ can be gotten out of order but we haven't tried yet

Super Missiles
Plasma Beam

Diffusion beam can be completely skipped and there is no reason to pick it up

There's probably even more you can do to sequence break once you get the speed booster, the BIG sequence break is that you can get to Ghavoran right after getting either the speed booster or morph ball bombs because the only thing blocking the orange teleporter is a row of three power beam blocks in a morph ball tunnel at the top of a heated room in cataris.

I'm really impressed with how smooth Dread is. I think Samus Returns was a good test run for Mercury Steam, because they really took what they did last time and perfected it.

But another thing about this game that I haven't heard much about is how atmospheric the game is. A lot of people shit on the graphics, and I can see why. The game isn't a technical marvel or anything, but they do quite a lot with what they have. It reminds me of playing Hollow Knight for the first time, and then SOTN before that.

Has anyone had any luck finding an OLED model? I was planning on visiting brick and mortar stores on release day but had to postpone because of car trouble. My plan is to take a road trip and hit up as many Gamestops/Targets/Wal-marts as I can to maximize my chances of running into a store with stock.

I've been putting off buying a Switch for years waiting for an upgraded model but looks like this is the best we're getting, at least until 2023 or later.
Also, stop double-posting newfag. Edit your posts instead

Depends of how much you plan on using handheld/tablet mode overall, OLED doesn't really have any advantage for docked besides the dedicated LAN port (owners of the regular Switch can use an ethernet usb adapter, such as Rampow, btw).

The Switch itself has a huge amount of games. If you're like me who play a wide array of genres, then you should be served very well.

There are also many japanese imports (Densha de Go!, Samurai Warriors 4 DX & Musou Orochi 2, Dragon Quest Heroes 1&2, Shin Hayarigami, etc) if you're into that sort of thing too.

Get a pc and get a switch lite and you are set tbh, at least I am pretty happy with both of those, barely touch my ps4
I've been debating with myself to gift a Switch Lite for a family relative kid, which has protection accessories and is also smaller for the hands. But it can't be docked so things like the Taiko no Tatsujin drum (which was quite the popular accessory) and playing on a larger TV screen are pretty much out. A large part of why I've been considering to purchase the OLED in the near future was to gift away my current v2 model instead.

Does the OLED have the better battery life of the revised model of the base switch? I still have a launch model with the bad battery life and a better battery and better screen seems like a significant upgrade for me since I play quite a bit in handheld mode.

The chip and the battery are the same as the v2 switch, so I assume that it has a slightly worse battery life because of the OLED screen and better speakers

OLED has apparently the exact battery life as the v2 model, in spite of the screen upgrade (unlike the Vita Slim that had extra battery life by moving away to LCD)

Except Nintendo caters to the knuckle dragging retards when a game gets a reputation for being too hard by giving them an easy mode.

DKTF was significantly harder than mario 3D World and both games got ports with TF getting a brain dead easy mode. When when they whine about shit being inaccessible, Nintendo tends to listen.

The only time they were probably right in doing this was replacing which Mario 2 the US got. Lost Levels was ass.
This reminds me that Super Mario Odyssey is both the easiest and most boring Mario game Nintendo made to date (Not counting Hotel Mario). And I learned from an essay video that making their games piss easy drives-in sales, so that's why they do it. Metroid is an obscure and forgotten game that Nintendo probably didn't think much of and decided to go with their creative freedom, so they made the game fair, but challenging probably for that reason,
I doubt they'd listen to journalists, they pretty much only listen to themselves and make games on the basis of how much they are likely to sell to the masses.

They gave the game to a European developer, so it wasn't even made in house with their usual people.

Oh and they do listen to journalists. A few outlets like Kotaku are now promoting PC switch emulation and are explaining how to play games for free in articles they publish. So people are expecting a shitshow to take place.

Agreed, although I'd say go for the regular switch if you're able. It's nice to take and dock it at parties/in hotels. It only leaves my house a few times a year but it's worth it for drunk mario cart.

I'm not even trying to sound like a jaded boomer when I say we've come a long way if people are complaining about Dread's difficulty. I consider myself to be of below average skill when it comes to action and shooter games (which Dread basically is) and haven't found it particularly challenging. Boss and E.M.M.I. fights are 99% pattern recognition and the checkpoints are extremely forgiving. Don't think I've been stuck on a boss for more than 10 minutes and I'm pretty far into the game.
