Don’t know how true this is, but there’s rumors going around online that Crash Bandicoot might be next on the list of characters being added onto Smash Bros: Ultimate. Apparently there was still more YTers like the one mentioned above doing predictions that might (not) happen. This vid was just done yesterday.

Currently, the Smash Bros: Ultimate FANDOM site still has this on their website.

Crash feels so obvious for a character that it really could go either way. Either Nintendo drops the ball like most of the DLC in pack 2, or Crash is in.
 
I cracked/jailbroken my switch about a year ago to turn it into an emulation machine. Best investment I made for my Switch, especially since I can get games for free now. Make sure your switch is patched before you get the RCM jig and SD card to crack it and keep in mind you'll probably be banned from Nintendo's Online service.

When I hacked my switch, I used this guide mainly.
A few small bits to add to this - If you do it, look up IncognitoRCM to blast your Switch's serial number and keep Nintendo from banning it.

Modding in general makes the system so much better since beyond the ports of stuff like Retroarch to the switch OS there's a working Linux distro for it that gets decent battery life and has quite a bit of developer attention. If you've got need for a very small, cheap dockable tablet running lightweight desktop apps (hell, Blender even runs decently for lowpoly work) it's a decent choice and doesn't preclude you from keeping it a Switch since the Linux install can live entirely on a SD card.
 
Newer ones and Lites need a modchip iirc. Haven't really looked into it though since I've just got a launch unit complete with janky joycons.
 
I hate how Nintendo Switch has problems getting games. Games will frequently come out on PC, Xbox, and Playstation, but the same Nintendo release comes out much later. It makes me prefer other systems. Do I really need to keep waiting for games like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2? I can just get the games earlier on other systems. Nintendo Switch even misses out on games like Resident Evil Village.

That's more on third-parties and their relationship with Nintendo rather than Nintendo itself to blame. Koei Tecmo, Bandai Namco and Capcom have been the biggest supporters so far for instance while Rockstar and Falcom simply don't give a shit (there are Falcom games on Switch like Ys and Legend of Heroes but the ports have been handled solely by NISA and Clouded Leopard Entertainment).

I don't know why you think RE8 would have been on Switch by any conventional means however.
 
But there's a few reasons people demand the "dark zelda" game.

1. People who were born in the 80s or early 90s likely grew up with a lot of dark fantasy and kids movies that weren't afraid to make kids cry. OoT and Madura's Mask are not only frequently cited as favourites, but they also deal with dark and heavy themes. Nintendo stood on that dark fantasy line, but never took the final step across it.

2. As people got older, they want more depth and maturity from their entertainment, but they also want the nostalgia and comfort of their old favourites. They won't play Skyrim or Dark Souls because they aren't Zelda. Yet as per point one, Nintendo won't deliver the dark, deep game for adults that they crave.

3. For any younger people that forget, when the GameCube was first shown at E3, it had a Zelda trailer. It was just a graphics demo, but people wanted that game. When Twilight Princess was first revealed with the "blades will bleed" trailer, people lost their minds. There were even stories of people breaking into tears.
I seem to recall some trailer showing an inverted triforce and there was fan speculation that the next game was going to be about Gannon or something like that and thus darker than the rest of the series. I think that my of also contributed to the demand for a darker game.
 
The way I always felt about it is that I only ever get a nintendo console for the nintendo exclusives anyway, and everything else usually just comes to PC so for me it never mattered that the switch can't get games like that.
 
Switch needs to stop being an underpowered piece of shit. Nintendo has done this three consoles in a row.

And I'd rather have the console be an "underpowered piece of shit" setting a precedent in the industry if it means games as a whole have much less bloated budgets, which alternatively allows in consequence more fun experimentation and taking more risks. HD game development starting at the 7th gen purged too many game studios (especially on the japanese side of the industry) and this really did show on the 8th gen.

It doesn't work like that. The baseline for the industry is already ipad and iphone games which are far from bloated and are akin to shovelware. When you get into the realms of AAA they were already bloated by the late 90's so it's been like that for decades and they've been generating stable profits so there's no real desire for change on the corporate level. You can also take a look at the international e-shop it's filled with stuff that's freemiumware from the apple store.

The Japanese game studios all switched to mobile games for phones since they were more profitable and cheaper to develop for by the mid to late 2000's.

Game development is already fairly open with Unity being free, you can make stuff with a much lower budget and of a smaller file size. If you're taking about program efficiency, that's more or less reliant on the skill of the coders and if they can do it within deadlines. But that's not an exclusive problem to the game industry the tech industry suffers from unwieldly programs in general. The people who work on stuff tend to leave companies and whatever works doesn't get touched by the next wave of people so nobody really knows how stuff exactly works. Most tech companies exist for the purpose of being bought out by larger companies.

For example Windows has a list of known errors and inconstancies that would fill a phonebook, but Microsoft won't bother fixing them unless it effects a large swath of users.
